The Lucky Batchâď¸
@just-another-dreamerr just so you know, I nearly sobbed at the end and I let out screams of angst. I know I said there would be some fluff, but⌠a n g s t Is the main theme
Moving On

He hadnât seen her since before the venator. Before that last mission with his old battalion, heâd finally told her. Heâd said those three little words. And sheâd kissed him, told him those same words back. His heart nearly exploded from happiness and joy. CT-1882 and CT-2019 had to drag him away from her. And heâd heard her special laugh as they did, waving after him as he said âIâll see you when I get back, I promise.â
But heâd broken that promise.
He broke it because he knew he wasnât the same. He knew he was now a broken, tortured soul. He was quiet, jumpy, anxious. He didnât even think he would ever stop shaking.
So when he got back, when heâd stumbled his way off the ship of his saviors and into the barracks on Coruscant, he made a decision.
He wouldnât see you. He would stay away from you. He didnât want to burden you with his state, the mess of a man that he was. You already had your own men to worry about, why add another to the mix? And besides, you were a Jedi and he was a clone, what could possibly have happened between the two of you? The inevitable fact that one day, you would stand over his body as he slowly faded away, your hand hovering over the blaster shot in his chest as you begged for him to stay with you?
No, he wouldnât be the man to make you suffer like that. He wouldnât be the man to break your heart.
Except he did.
~~~
The boys were at 79âs after another successful mission. It was a particularly hard one, so they decided that they would reward themselves by going out. Raffle was the designated driver like normal, so he kept his drinks alcohol free. Most of the Lucksters didnât drink, or at least not much. They didnât need alcohol to turn them into crazy party animals, they already were crazy enough without it. But tonight, they let themselves have a drink or two, none getting too intoxicated.
Ryder, however, didnât drink. He sat at the end of the bar next to Thumbs, smiling as he watched his other vod let loose. He noticed Foxy flirting with a girl, what was her name again? Eliaelle, thatâs right. Ryderâs own heart had a pang of hurt as he watched, remembering his own girl that would look at him like that.
Heâd convinced himself he never thought about her, that heâd moved on. But heâd been lying.
âHey, you alright?â Thumbs asked, noticing the slight shift in Ryderâs presence.
âYeah, justâŚremembering.â
âYour old vod?â
âNoâŚsomeone else.â
âWould you like to share?â Thumbs asked gently.
âNo,â Ryder said, shaking his head. âItâs best I try and forget.â
Thumbs looked at him for a second before nodding, understanding that he had reached another wall.
âWell, if you ever want to tell me,â he said, nodding and giving him a knowing look. Ryder nodded back, returning the small smile.
He looked back out into the bar, trying to rid her from his mind. But that failed, because when he looked out, his eyes landed on her form. Beautiful as ever, the girl he had fallen for once before was right before his eyes. And she was looking back at him, hand half extended towards a drink. All he saw was pain in her eyes, and all he felt was pain in his heart.
âGeneral Jinn, you alright?â Her commander asked, but he just kept on staring at Ryder. He decided then that he had to do something, the least Ryder owed you was an apology.
âHey, where are you going?â Thumbs asked as Ryder got up.
âIâll be right back,â he said, pushing through the other bar patrons to get closer to her.
When he did reach her, he was silent. He opened his mouth to try and say something, but words failed him.
âLetâs go outside,â was all he managed to say after a minute, and she nodded, following behind as he walked out.
âYour hair is different,â was all she said as she stood quietly with him. He managed a small huff, an attempt at laughter that died before it left his lips.
âIâve let it go.â
âItâs nice. I like the turquoise.â
It went silent again, neither of them knowing what to say. Ryder only looked up again when he heard a small sniff come from you.
âYou said you would see me when you got back. You promised me,â she said, and Ryder watched as a tear rolled down her cheek.
âI know, and Iâm sorry.â
âYou told me you loved me. Was that just a lie?â
His eyes widened with pain that she could ever think such a thing. All he had ever known was that he loved her, it was the most honest thing about him. No part of that was ever a lie. He gently reached forwards and held her face, bringing his head down in a keldabe kiss. He whispered her name softly, not General Jinn, but her name, and he felt one of her tears meet his thumb that rested on her cheek.
âI never lied to you-â
âThen why didnât you come back to me?â She pulled away, looking into his eyes. He saw as she searched for something, perhaps the answer to her question. She didnât have to look for long, because he would give anything she asked for.
âBecause I loved you. I love you, and you donât deserve to deal with who Iâve become.â
âWho youâve become? I donât care who youâve become, youâre still the man that I fell in love with.â
âNo Iâm not,â he said, shaking his head sadly. âIâm broken. Iâm scared. Iâm lost.â
âThen let me help you-â
âNo, Iâm not going to become a burden.â
âYouâd never be a burden to me,â she said softly, and he felt her hand gently cradle his cheek, lifting his face up to make his eyes meet hers.
âI-I canât even look at a venator without panicking,â he muttered, words and hands shaking. âRed lights, alarms, theyâre allâŚI canât-Iâm too much to handle.â
âNo youâre not,â she said while softly grabbing his hands, and he let her try to ground him. âEverything you feel, you are allowed to feel, and you shouldnât feel guilty about it. Your trauma doesnât define you. Youâre more than your trauma, youâre more than your past. You are a soldier, a brave, strong, smart man. You deserve love and comfort.â
âBut it canât be from you,â he said, sadly shaking his head. âI-I have to move on.â Ryder forced himself to look into her eyes as he spoke, watching as he tore your heart to shreds.
âWhy?â
âBecause, itâsâŚitâs better this way.â
âHow do you know?â
âBecause then I canât lose you. I canât lose you like General Lyle, CT-1882, and CT-2019. And you wonât have to lose me.â
âBut Iâve already lost you, havenât I?â She asked, sadness seeping into her voice. Ryder didnât respond. He didnât know how to tell her this was for the best.
âI have a name now,â he blurted out, and he saw the slight confusion in her eyes at the sudden topic change before they went curious. âM-my nameâs Ryder.â
âRyderâŚâ The way she slowly said his name, testing it out on her tongue made his heart flutter. He never thought heâd heard her sweet voice say his name, and yet she had. âHow did you get that name?â
âEver sinceâŚmy old battalion, I always have some sort of transport within reach. Iâm always riding something during battle. The thought of not having an escapeâŚa way to save more than just myselfâŚmy new battalion named me. They really care about me, and love me like a brother already.â
âWell, I hope they love you in the ways that I canât,â she said, and he watched her eyes fall to the ground. âIâm glad I know your name now, Ryder. Iâll never forget it, or you.â With that, she kept her eyes trained down as she stepped away, turning and beginning to leave him. âGoodbye, Ryder.â
This was what he needed, to let her go. He needed this closure so he could move on. If he just let her walk away, then he would be able to forget.
âWait!â He called, his body beginning to tremble, his heart beginning to race. Tears immediately began running down his face as he tried to stumble after her, breathing at a rate much faster than a few seconds ago. She turned around and when her eyes saw him, she immediately ran back to catch him in her arms.
âP-please, donât leave me,â he sobbed, though it was muffled by his face being buried in the crook of her neck. She could feel how much pain he was suddenly in, how much he feared losing another person he loved.
Ryder was having flashbacks of the venator, watching as CT-2019 was blown up, hearing the static that came from his comm. He heard CT-1882 beg for him to save himself, and felt as General Lyle tossed him into the escape pod. He saw the ship utterly destroyed again, and how he could do nothing to save anyone.
âDonât leave me!â He cried again, squeezing his arms tighter around her, holding her as if he feared she would disappear if he let go.
âShh, itâs okay,â she said, gently rubbing her hand up and down his back. âIâm here, Iâm not going anywhere. I wonât leave you, Ryder.â
The feeling of abandonment soon left him, and he calmed down to a soft cry, his body only shaking every so often.
âC-can I stay with you tonight?â He asked, lifting his eyes to look into hers. With him looking like he did, there was no way she could deny him his wish, though she never would have dreamed of it. She smiled and pulled his head to meet hers, pressing back into a keldabe kiss. Their noses brushed and he let out a shaky sigh as she continued to ground him.
âYou can stay with me whenever you need to,â she whispered. She pulled away again and gently grabbed his hands, leading the trooper over to her speeder.
Once they were in her room at the Jedi temple, Ryder gave a quick comm to Thumbs to tell him he would be back in the morning, and that he didnât need to worry.
She gave him a gentle bath that night, keeping him calm. She gently scrubbed at his tense shoulders until they relaxed. She weaved her fingers through his long hair, undoing the braid so she could wash it. When she finished, she gave him some of the softest pjs he had ever worn before he crawled into her bed, her following behind. And she held him, she kept her arms around his form as he finally let himself go, let himself be happy for one of the first times since the venator. And for the first time, he didnât have nightmares of that day. His last thought before he fell asleep was that he was moving on - with you.
The Bad Batch Found Family Fic Recs!
These fics center around Omegaâs relationship with The Bad Batch.
While I have only read a few of these so far, I wanted to help give other writers the recognition they deserve and/or make it easy for readers to find good stories. Thank you so much to the people who recommended these!
And of course, if for any reason you want me to take your fic off here, no worries Iâll do it right away.Â
Summary: Hunter had been trained to kill in hundreds of ways. During his service with the GAR, he had destroyed every type of droid, separatist leader, and lifeform in between that was deemed a threat. He had been shot, stabbed, tortured, blown up on multiple occasions. But for some reason, the idea of being Omegaâs ori'vod, or Force forbid her buir, scared him more than anything the war had ever thrown his way. Or, Hunter learns what it takes to raise Omega.
37th Battalion (The Lucky Batch âď¸)
It was raining the other day and it reminded me of you lucksters @mango-peachjuice @maygalodon @generaltano , so now this little thing exists. (Rane loves his little sister Brisk, I know, the Force told me.)
Rain can be bittersweet too
It was raining.
The soft splatter of the first few drops against durasteel had him looking up from where he was cleaning his blaster, eyes climbing through the tall canopy until they spotted the clouds covering the skies. They were a pale grey, light and fluffy, like the ones that usually hung over Kamino with gentle rain and murmuring thunder.
It was like the first time heâs felt it on his skin, from that time, long ago, when something inside him had pushed him outside the domes and into the storm. The moment that had earned him a name.
And the last time, when heâd let it run over his face as heâd held the bodies of his brothers, his chest tight while his heart shattered.
A thunder rumbled softly in the distance and dragged his mind out of bittersweet memories. He looked at the sky, uncertain, something off between his ribs.
Hesitantly, he stretched his hand forward, out of the cover of the dropship's wing. Gentle droplets landed on his hand, scattering once they met the plastoid on his arm and leaving specks of water that slowly made their way down his dusty armor, the trickles thicker as rain started to come down a bit harder and pool at the base of his palm.
He hadn't realized he was trembling until the water cupped in his hand slipped between his shaky fingers.
Ozone in the air, blood on the wet soil, coldâ
Suddenly someone rushed past him, a cold breeze brushing against his cheeks as Jackal and the General dove forward, away from the cover of the shipâs wings and out into the open. He watched, impossibly still, as they both started sprinting like madmen in the small clearing, legs brushing against the tall grass and faces up to feel the water on their cheeks.
There was singing and smirking and buzzing energy under the skies, both of them drunk in the unexplainable freedom of the incoming storm. Songs got woven in the air and the warm rumbling of thunder echoed in the distance, like drums joining in to their display of joyful nonsense.
And there was laughter.
He'd never heard laughter in the rain before.
Jackal and Kenhla kept running around, boots splashing in muddy puddles as the water poured down, trying to get to each other. They were drenched from head to toe, armor splattered with mud, robes dark and heavy and wet, and yet they looked like they didn't have a care in the world other than dancing under the rain and laughing and spinning and jokingâ
Brisk suddenly joined in, an extra bounce in her step as she spread her arms wide, like a bird ready to take off towards the endless sky. She did a happy little spin, her feet light on the slippery floor and her eyes closed as she welcomed the storm like someone would greet a childhood friend: with glee and a grin that stretched from ear to ear.
A giggle escaped her lips and it was a sound of pure joy, a melody among the thunder and trickling water of leaves and metal, and Rane couldnât help the way his breath stuck in his throat at the sight of the little padawan dancing under the rain.
There was a warm light in her eyes; a spark he found so hard to find in his own these days.
âHey, Rane!â She called to him as she caught him staring quietly from under the shelter of the ship. The girl looked so carefree with her short hair plastered against her forehead, robes getting darker with water by the secondâ it was as if the weight of command and war had been lifted from her small shoulders for a moment. Her hand reached out to him, an invitation, a grin wide on her face. âYou coming?â
Yes. No.
It hurts. It's cold.
Like holding somebodyâs dying body. Rain was lonely.
But itâs freedom. It's life.
They were laughing and dancing. Together.
It's home.
He smiled quietly, hesitantly, and with a deep breath, took the step forward.
@lavenderstaars @letsunity @lynnpaper @monako-jinn-stories @oo-hazel-oo @catboy-tech @cosmicghostie @radbatch @longearedowlfromouterspace @namesmox @burnthashbrown27 some wholesomess for the soul.
Before the Finale
With only 2 episodes remaining this season I bring you Bad Batch fans another theory.
Itâs long, and not everyone is going to like it, but here it is:
Cut to TCW s7, ep 2: A Distant Echo
[Wrecker is eating and lifting Gonky noisily in the background] Rex: I know you work with Cody sometimes, but who do you guys report to? [Wrecker stops as Rex asks this] Hunter: Hmm⌠good question.  Canât say Iâve got an answer. [as he speaks Hunter folds his arms across his chest. Defensively?] Wrecker: Yeah .
Is THAT what Cid knows?
What sheâs holding over them?
Does she know who theyâve been working for all along and Hunter DOES NOT want that info to get out?
Have they always been the bad guys? The self named Bad Batch?
But most of them simply didnât know it?
Bear with me here
In TBB ep 3 Lama Su refers to the Batch as being Kaminoan property. Why?
If the Republic have bought the clones then why are they considered Kaminoan property.
Or is it just them?
Do they report to the Kaminoans? Or more specifically, does Hunter report to them?
Doing whatever mission the long necks tell them to do, for whoever has paid to have their job done, while allowing them enough contact with the GAR to maintain their cover as special ops?
Cody is the only clone theyâre referred to as having worked with before. Itâd explain why Hunter maintains the whole âwe donât like âregsâ line if he/the Kams want to keep them distanced from them so that they donât get chatting and give the game away. (No one else there has their own cosy little private barracks)
Itâd explain why Hunter is so keen to keep his boys under his total control and not asking independent questions. Why he keeps them so reliant upon him.
Itâd explain why they turned down the opportunity to receive medals for their part in Echoâs rescue. The boys have been well schooled in ânot wanting that sort of thingâ, regardless of the medals Hunter has hanging on his bunk wall, or the targets Crosshair has hung proudly for all to see his marksmanship skills. That sort of thing could draw the wrong sort of attention and might make someone look into their records.
And itâd explain why Cid has been able to blackmail them into working for her on such a shitty deal for so long, even after theyâd paid the debt they owed her.
.
Not convinced?
Ok, letâs look at this angle then:
âWireless communication uses electromagnetic radiation - radio waves and microwaves - to send information. Radio waves are essentially electromagnetic waves radiating from an antenna (like the antennas of a WiFi router). So, wireless communication is always broadcast. In other words, the signals from the WiFi routers can be heard by other WiFi devices tuned into the same radio frequency.â
So⌠if you know his frequency you can send a message to Hunter without anyone else knowing as long as heâs in range? And the range is âanywhere on the planetâ
When they first meet Omega he seems confused by her, uninterested beyond the basic curiosity they all have. Omega asks to come to Onderon with the team and he brushes her off easily.
No sooner have the team departed:
Nala Se approaches Omega from behind.
Nala Se: Omega. Come along. I told you to stay close.
Nala Se turns and walks away, Omega follows.
.
Cut to the team on Onderon.
Crosshair has challenged Hunter over not following orders when Hunter whips out his blaster, fires right past Crosshairâs head and hits the probe droid watching them from the trees.
All the focus is on Crosshair at this point
The group approach the downed droid, Tech points out that itâs a probe droid, and Hunter suddenly looks up from the droid for no apparent reason
Hunter: Omega.
Hunter turns to walk back to the Marauder
Echo: What about her?
Hunter: She warned me about the mission. And Tarkin
She said not to return to Kamino, that itâs not safe for us anymore.
Wrecker: [grunts] Maybe sheâs right.
Crosshair: Weâre taking the word of a child now?
Itâs an incredibly sudden change of mind that they go get Omega, and thereâs no apparent reason for it.
But if you consider that the droid relayed a message only Hunter could pick up telling him to come back and get Omega, that it was important that she be kept out of Empire hands?
Well, thatâs another matter entirely.
.
Hunter has been willing to drop everything to go after Omega when she was lost, or taken by bounty hunters, but heâs shown no sign of actually caring for her.
He could have trained her to use the energy bow, but that was left to Echo.
He could have provided her with a room of her own, but Wrecker did that.
She so painfully clearly wanted him to hold her and reassure her after they got her back from Bane, but he made no move to do that. He only responded after she threw herself at him bodily.
Sheâs a job. Nothing more.
Hunter only cares about Hunter.
.
We saw Nala Se override the door controls so that they could leave Kamino, but what else could she has been doing with that datapad before they left?
What final instructions could she have issued Hunter regarding protecting her little science project and keeping her safe until she needs her?
Iâve pointed out before that I think Hunterâs massive tattoo makes him look two-faced, and that this is reflected in his helmetâs paint job.
But it only struck me yesterday (and I donât know how I failed to spot it before) but the design of his helmet (the eye shape, the grill) looks like a stormtrooper helmet. Certainly closer to one than any other team member.
And yes, it was the same design in the CW arc.
Hunter doesnât strike me as someone who had to work for his place as team leader. He hasnât shown the confidence in his decision making skills that Iâd except to see in someone who had. My guess is that it was simply assigned to him from the moment they completed basic training, and itâs simply always been that way.
He likes it though, being in charge. He likes being the leader of the team with a 100% success rate. He likes to stand at the front, he always walks through doors first, and makes the most obvious statement with his physical appearance. Everything about him screams âlook at me!â
.
So, what else is there?
Well, thereâs whatever it is with Hunter and Crosshair.
Does Hunter suspect that Crosshair has worked out all by himself that something just isnât right. That the jobs theyâre doing just donât add up to being loyal to the Republic?
Because Crosshair was questioning his authority back in the CW arc. It isnât only since Order 66 kicked in.
Is that why he hasnât given a shit about trying to get him back?
Because his life is easier without him getting underfoot?
Does Hunter fear that the Empire will have told Crosshair about his double dealing?
And have they? Or is that part yet to come?
.
What if Hunter told Tech to leave him there because heâs still following his primary order to keep Omega safe. Not yet knowing that Nala Se likely didnât draw breath before heading to Rampartâs office and selling her own people out to the Empire so that she could find good favour with them and carry on her work without Lama Su getting in her way.
After all the shit she pulled in the Fives arc I wouldnât put anything past her!
Hunter promised Omega sheâd never go back to Kamino, he didnât say that that was because heâd end up luring her to the Empire instead.
Because sheâll want to go with Hunter, because itâs him. If he calls to her, sheâll go without hesitation. Sheâs started to doubt in his ability to be her perfect hero after seeing him be so callous towards Hera and Cid, but unless others can convince her otherwise beforehand sheâll come when he calls.
Doubly so, potentially, if Nala Se is there to back him up. She knows Nala Se, sheâs known her her whole life. Why wouldnât she trust her?
.
Maybe heâs also pretty fucking sure he can talk his way out of this situation. Because he knows that heâs been working against the Republic all this time. Because heâs confident that he can spin his boys a story about how he escaped and returned to them. I mean, Gregor escaped. Why wouldnât he be able to?
And Crosshair wasnât there at the time.
.
And what about Echo in all of this. Where does he fit in. Because he doesnât.
No effort has been made to accommodate him, his trauma or his disabilities, or integrate him into their established group. Theyâre been together for quite a while now, but Hunter still refers to him as being ânewâ, reminding him that he doesnât fit in.
What if they didnât take Echo with them because they wanted him. What if they took him because they didnât want the Republic to have him. Because Hunter was told to make him that offer.
And thatâs why theyâve done fuck all with him since heâs been with them.
.
One final terrible thought to finish with
Cody (AKA Wireless Router Husband) is the only Clone Commander we know of who has previously had contact with TBB.
In previous canon Cody, after Order 66, was kept Empire side and became an instructor.
Maybe Hunter isnât the only one already being influenced by non GAR sources?
Is there a chance that Cody has been too? I wonder what his frequency is?
I donât want to think that, because itâs Cody.
But Iâm considering all the options here.
But please not Cody!
However, itâs an opportunity for the writers to break the hearts of both the Batch boys and Rex in one cruel go.
So Iâm not ruling it out.
.
Where does that leave us with Gregor, the Batch boys, etc?
Well, I have thoughts on that too, but this post isnât about them.
Names Skip. Now what can I do for ya?
Missing the âž tattoo but I like these ones as well!
