One of the earliest proper monographs I have ever bought: Francesco Dal Co’s „Tadao Ando - Complete Works“, published by Phaidon in 1995. His projects’ zen-like quality, the sublime treatment of concrete and the masterful use of light were and are qualities that still set Ando apart from other „starchitects“. The catalogue collects his buildings and projects up until the mid-1990s, presents them in photos, drawings and plans and thanks to several interviews included also provides insights into the architect’s architectural philosophy and design approaches. Although it has been with me for more than 20 years I still enjoy browsing this thick but handy overview of the decisive years of one of today’s most admired architects.
