Fernando couldn't quite believe he was going to be a father. His wife, the woman he had been with for years, the woman he had grown into himself with, was carrying his child.

Fernando hadn't always wanted to be a dad. But then he got Lance as a teammate and he became a sort of dad. Well, more of a fun uncle, really.

But still, it stirred something in him. A want, a need to raise a child.

When he first saw the positive pregnancy test, he was so excited. And he was still excited, seven months in and he was just as excited as ever. But he was also nervous. Incredibly so, as any first time father would have been.

Why had he kissed her sweetly and said no when she asked if they should get a puppy to practice with? Now he was a kid in the deep end of the pool, with no floaties to help him swim.

"How do you do it?" He asked Kevin as they walked through the paddock, waving for the cameras that were pointed in their direction. "How do you be a racing driver and a good dad?"

Kevin shrugged his shoulders. "It's easy, really," he said. "You just got to remember that your kid is your priority. You have to be better with decisions in the car so that you can come home to them."

When they found out that they were having a little girl, Fernando was jumping for joy. He couldn't wait to have his wife's mini me on his hip as he showed her off to the paddock.

He spoke to Checo in Spanish about becoming his dad, but he was careful with the advice he took onboard. He loved his wife too much to truly take advice from Sergio Perez.

As their conversation began winding down, Lando Norris came up to him. "You excited?" He asked as they began walking.

Fernando swallowed thickly. "Yeah," he answered. "I can't wait."

"I was a little shit as a kid," he said. "You have so much to look forward to. Give it siblings and you'll be finding pieces of barbie dolls all over the place."

Suddenly, Fernando wasn't so scared anymore.
