A former hedge fund manager turned pharmaceutical businessman has purchased the rights to a 62-year-old drug used for treating life-threatening parasitic infections and raised the price overnight from $13.50 per tablet to $750.

According to the New York Times, Martin Shkreli, 32, the founder and chief executive of Turing Pharmaceuticals, purchased the rights to Daraprim for $55 million on the same day that Turing announced it had raised $90 million from Shkreli and other investors in its first round of financing.

Daraprim is used for treating toxoplasmosis — an opportunistic parasitic infection that can cause serious or even life-threatening problems in babies and for people with compromised immune systems like AIDS patients and certain cancer patients — that sold for slightly over $1 a tablet several years ago.  Prices have increased as the rights to the drug have been passed from one pharmaceutical company to the next, but nothing like the almost 5,500 percent increase since Shkreli acquired it.

This is absolutely monstrous. He’s like a parody of a capitalist from a Marxist propaganda film. Jesus H. Christ what a piece of trash.

Spread his face around. Don’t let him be anonymous. Let everyone know his name and what he looks like so that he’ll never, ever be able to go about in public again without being utterly terrified.

i’m already prepared, all i need is a phone that isn’t a windows phone

Im Already Prepared, All I Need Is A Phone That Isnt A Windows Phone

Things I am going to do when Pokemon Go comes out:

-come up with a goofy catchphrase to say before I start a battle and when I win/lose

-ask strangers for their numbers after we battle so I can call them constantly to tell them how strong my top percentage rattata is

-brush up on my Pokeflute playing skills in case of a Snorlax blocking my path

-start a gym and hand out badges to people who beat me

-scream “THERE’S A TIME AND PLACE FOR EVERYTHING” at people riding bikes in illogical locations

-jump out at unsuspecting civilians when they walk past to battle

-blast inspiring Pokemon music when I travel around or battle people

-cosplay every day

-lose my entire social life

where is the fiction

Retail Gothic

A customer pleads to be let in after closing time. They only need one item. They only ever need one Item.

A customer is looking for an item. You do not sell the item. You have never sold the item. You do not know what the item is.

An item does not scan. “It must be free” the customer jokes. You look at them, their mouth hangs open as they laugh. They have too many teeth.

You ask your colleague how their day is going. They look back at you their eyes hollow and devoid of hope. You nod in understanding. No more is said.

A security barrier goes off. You look around but there is nobody there. There is just noise.

You say good morning to a customer. You hope it is still morning. You are no longer sure how time works.

Colleagues  disappear as they move on to better things. You do not know where they go but sometimes you see them months later. Their eyes are bright and their smiles real. You know better than to question these things.

There is a man. He comes in every Wednesday. You have never seen him buy anything.

You see an actor from that happy show years before. They are looking at deodorant. They look sad.

You go to the stockroom to find an item. You look around but there is nothing. The system says you have thirty two. The system always say you have thirty two.

You walk through the warehouse. All you can see in every direction is Christmas trees. It is July.

They ask to speak to a manager. You look around- there are no managers. you cannot remember the last time you saw a manager. What does a manager look like?
