i’ve decided that my five is canon divergent and will only incorporate canon from seasons one and two. i have yet to see season four, but i don’t know if i’ll ever get around to it because the fandom seems to hate it and i don’t see the point in watching it if the general consensus is that it sucks. i’ll write up a little blurb in my canon divergencies post for five at some point.

some more dodge headcanons that no one asked for + another bonus riff one
dodge’s dad used to call him andy whenever he was drunk or whenever dodge would beat his time. because of that, dodge doesn’t like anyone (except anne) calling him andy.
dodge doesn’t have any photos in his room aside from photos of him and his immediate family, and even those are scarce.
the masons moved to beecher on november twenty first. dayna’s accident was on halloween, dodge’s dad died on november fifth, and the funeral was on the nineteenth. three years later, they moved back to carp at the beginning of august so that dodge could reenroll in school.
dodge has a horse named sundance & a cat named bonnie. sundance was an eleventh birthday gift from dayna and anne and he found bonnie in the dumpster behind dot’s diner. sundance is one of the boarders that anne is talking about when she mentions having boarded horses to heather.
dodge’s parents cheating on each other gave him a very cynical perspective on love. he’s extremely reluctant to open up to people because of it. if his parents couldn’t stop themselves from cheating, then who’s to say that dodge’s partner won’t stop themselves from cheating?
he doesn’t believe that just because his dad’s trophies were with them, his heart was with them. if his heart was with them, he wouldn’t have cheated.
the watch his dad gave him was the last present dodge got from him before his parents split up.
dodge’s mom didn’t start cheating on his dad until after his dad started cheating on his mom. dodge thinks she was just waiting to get back at him for it.
dodge didn’t bother unpacking his things when the masons moved back to carp. most of his things are still in boxes on the shelf in his closet. he doesn’t know if or when he’ll get around to unpacking.
dodge went by andrew (never andy) when the masons were in beecher. he wanted a fresh start, and that was the only thing he could think of. he still did rodeo, though. he couldn’t bring himself to give that up.
and bonus riff headcanon
riff didn’t have clean clothes a lot because his mom would forget to take them to the laundromat so he would sometimes be wearing dirty clothes for days or weeks.

Nina hasn’t played in the rain since her days at the Little Palace. She hasn’t had the chance to. She misses it. She wonders if Matthias would ever play in the rain with her. Probably not. He’d probably say the same things Johanna is saying. She pushes Matthias out of her mind and laughs, running out into the street to twirl around with her arms outstretched. The rain is cold as it pelts Nina’s face. She just laughs some more, turning to face Johanna with a blinding smile.
“Come on!” She gestures with one hand, beckoning Johanna closer. “We’ll be fine. You’re a Healer, for Saints’ sake! Come on, come dance with me.” She’ll regret this later, but for now she doesn’t care. For now, she can pretend she’s a girl again without a care in the world.

gone are the days of girlhood where she would look up at the sky and laugh. she remembers as faintly as a dying candle a day of gray clouds where a yellow-haired woman held her hand through a crowd. instead of catching a glimpse of that woman, she let the raindrops fall on her white cheeks. ( now, she wonders if that woman was her mother. ) there was rain at the white palace. the other children and her challenged themselves to catch as many drops on their tongues as possible. rain tasted better than the water in their saucers. johanna aches to be six-years-old again and tasting it for the first time. instead of lingering in the doorway, she steps onto the street to join her friend.
❝ do you still love to play in it? ❞ her voice raises as the storm intensifies. thunder and lighting can crackle in the horizon. she won't be swayed. arms stretch out, fingers welcoming the water. johanna is no tidemaker, but she faces the weather as if she is as brave as one. ❝ we'll catch our deaths out here! ❞ and she laughs at the sky. ❝ think of the puddles that this will cause! boots or not, everyone's shoes will get completely soaked. oh, those poor socks! ❞ she doesn't care about stockings or how long it will take for her golden curls to dry out. she has become a child again.
