Meet Ranin Riverdream, the (Ghostwise) Halfling (Circle of the Moon) Druid!
Gender: Male (he/him)
Race: Ghostwise Halfling
Class: Druid (Circle of the Moon)
Background: Storyteller
Alignment: Lawful Good (formerly), True Neutral (present)
Backstory: Ranin was formerly part of an all-Halfling storytelling group. They would entertain the crowd with stories of various genres. If they get the crowd invested in their stories, then they'll get various forms of payment, like money, food, and material goods. This group was formerly held in high regard in their town.
When hard times came onto the town, Ranin and the other Halflings got less money from their storytelling efforts, since their listeners were focused on their own survival. Because storytelling was no longer a reliable option for a job, the group temporarily disbanded and tried to get jobs with decent pay. However, they couldn't secure any jobs since the managers want to only focus on a small group of employees in order to save money. After a month, they joined up again to come up with a new plan.
At this point, the residents of their town were low on hope and whatnot, so they took advantage of that. Despite the town council doing all that they could to help the residents, Ranin and the other Halflings spread slanderous stories about how the town council was hoarding resources all to themselves, causing the residents to needlessly revolt. Ranin and the others went on to turn the residents against each other by spreading false tales about them.
The discord went on for two years, resulting in needless injuries and death. People robbed each other, fought each other, and the town executed people that didn't deserve to die. This chaos caused the town to fall apart. At last, it ended with the residents and the city council realizing that the halfling storytellers were frauds, and caused the discord for their own gain. However, the damage was already done, and all that they could do was sentence the halfling storytelling group to death for fraud and for causing public instability.
Ranin was able to escape their execution, but their friends weren't so lucky. They watched in horror as his friends were hung for their crimes. He fled the town before the executioners realized that they didn't execute one of the members.
Now hiding out deep in the forest, Ranin got a lot of time to think about what he did. He trained as a druid in order to survive in the wild. He became less materialistic and relied less on other people. He lived this secluded lifestyle for a decade, after which he decided to reintegrate himself back to society.
Knowing that the adjacent towns would probably remember the crimes that destroyed their neighbor, he traveled the woods in search of a town that was far away from the others. At last, he found the town, where he would be able to lie low. Now, knowing that his words can tear a population apart, he stopped telling stories and tried to cover up his tracks by working as a humble hunter. However, there was one problem.
One day, as he was selling pelts, a letter slipped through the doorway, with, "To Ranin Riverdream, Open ASAP," written in cursive. After inspecting it to see if it was cursed, Ranin opened the letter, and was shocked when he saw the contents.
The letter revealed that there's people out there who know about all of the bad things that Ranin did, and that they'll all be kept secret if he successfully pulled off a heist.
The letter went on to say that if Ranin didn't successfully pull off the heist, then Ranin's past crimes would be revealed to the town that he now calls home, and to all of the towns that are available. His crimes will be published for all to see, and for all to know of his infamy. He will then suffer an execution far worse than hanging, and they will ensure that Ranin is unable to rest in peace.
The letter ended with, "If you're willing to do as we say, then come to [address] at XX/XX/XXXX, at XX:XX."
Ranin accepted the offer and honed his skills in preparation for what's to come.
