Annatar not liking to be touched is so me coded

I feel like I've seen so many TV cancellation announcements for stuff that I might've watched but now might not. And it really just emphasizes how much the current system is eating itself.

Binge culture means that people are expected to consume a show right as it drops. Because so many shows are binged now, even weekly shows are held to the same standard. If they don't perform well during the initial release, they are written off because binge numbers are the numbers that matter.

So you get more and more people who are afraid to get invested in shows because it might get canceled on a cliffhanger. Because of that, they don't tune in to watch something until they're sure its going to continue. So the next bingeable show gets less viewers. It gets canceled. More people join the 'I'm not going to watch yet because I'm afraid to get invested' crowd. Less people watch TV.

And it sucks because people like this are often the most ardent fans of a work--the ones who will write fanfiction and make fanart and write long analytical posts convincing people to watch a show. The people who will make a new show their whole personality because that's how hyperfixation works. I am amongst that crowd. I can't let myself get invested in something anymore unless I know that I'm going to get emotional payoff.

TV execs have been continuously breaking trust with fandom spaces for the past several years. They don't give shows a chance to find their legs, to grow an audience, to gain a cult following. They kill something in it's cradle in service to the numbers.

And it's not just the fans who suffer because of this. It's writer's rooms. I'm going to school right now for screenwriting and its BAD out there. So many writers who pour their heart and soul into a concept only to never get to bring it to fruition. There's no room for slow burns. For thoughtful storytelling. For trusting the audience. There's no room for real creativity. So the shows that do get renewed are often competent but uninspired or sequel/franchise content. Cause that's what gets views.

I cannot imagine how disheartening it is as a writer to start so many projects and never get to finish them. Think about your own writing. If you were working on a fanfiction but knew at any moment someone could stop you updating because you aren't getting enough hits/kudos, would you find joy in that anymore? I sure wouldn't.

I believe that a lot of the best storytelling is going to come out of indie spaces in the next few years--writers and artists moving outside of Hollywood and making their own low budget stories. Because it's almost impossible to thrive within the current system.

It's not the writer's fault. It's not the fan's fault. It's the way TV has become. And its going to crash and burn and I'm sure execs will find a way to blame anything but the system they created.

Genuine question for the HOTD fans. Why are some of you in such a rush to get to the war and action in the Dance of the dragons? What is wrong with building the plot, the characters, the story? Rushing the story is the exact thing that ruined the end of Game of Thrones so I’m just genuinely curious why some want to rush through the story so bad. I’m just seeing a lot of back and forth of fans who are saying it’s taking too long and then fans who think the seasons need to be longer (I agree, at least 10 episodes). And just to also clarify, I am well aware of what happens in the book and the differences between book and show. I’m just genuinely curious what some of the rush is about

I need to say that Ewan and Matt absolutely ate this season. Like I’m dead, deceased, perished. Because LORD not only do they look absolutely gorgeous this season, hello them in this press tour. Matt’s soft and perfect hair, his chaotic and comforting energy. And Ewan, ugh, his soft calming voice, his sophisticated and insightful thoughts, his pretty face. I just can’t get enough of them. Like I can’t think straight.

Can’t tell you how many times this has given me a heart attack 😂…

if anyone wants to know what’s been playing in my head repeatedly this past week….it’s the scene of rhaenyra calling vermithor and trying to get him to be calm and obey. her high valyrian is like angels singing and the gates of heaven opening i swear.

one thing about asoiaf is that it frequently invites you to have sympathy for characters who've carried out varying degrees of morally repulsive acts (most apparent with pov characters such as theon, cersei, tyrion, and jaime but also sandor, joffrey, and even viserys). and most of these characters have received some equivalent of, what may look like 'narrative comeuppance' : theon flayed by ramsay, cersei made to perform her walk of atonement, tyrion sold as a slave, jaime losing his hand, joffrey's painful, drawn out death etc. except the scenes really aren't framed like that since the series doesn't seem to buy into that idea. all these incidents are not just deserts but moments of horrible injustice against these characters. and that's a little series thesis statement in itself, no neat category of monsters whose misdeeds can be addressed by a single moment of karmic justice but people like you and me who hurt others and have been hurt and continue on living. it's saying, here's this person who is capable of great cruelty influenced and motivated by their experiences with the world, but will you also hold understanding and sympathy in your heart for when the world is cruel to them in return? given what most fandom discourse looks like... the answer to that question is unfortunately a resounding no for a lot of readers.

Season 1: Time jump to adult Rhaenyra because what happened in between is her getting pregnant and giving birth over and over again, which doesn't add much to the plot until years later.

Viewers: "HotD is too fast-paced. I think we missed important key moments for character development."

Season 2: Is slow paced to go into detail about each character's mindset, intentions, plans, and everything that will lead to the beginning of the end of House Targaryen

Viewers: "This season is boring. I don't want character development. Give me dragon fights, and Rhaenyra and Daemon kill people!"

Season 2: Rhaenyra loses patience in her council's incompetence and takes matter into her own hands after realizing she's been chosen by her father and the gods. Daemon faces the ghosts of his past mistakes, his ego confronted and humbled by the realization that Rhaenyra's burden is not one to desire. Rhaenyra sacrifices innocents in order to gain the dragons she needs to win. Alicent realizes the severe consequences of how her hate towards Rhaenyra negatively affected her son's view of women in positions of power, resulting in her own demise. Key characters, including children and dragons, are gruesomely killed. Everything seen has a purpose.

Viewers: "Why is Rhaenyra burning people? This is horrible! Why is Daemon being portrayed as having emotions? I don't get how this will matter later. Alicent is a horrible mother, I don't care what made her become this way. Um, why are dragons choosing their riders? That's weird. Why would Rhaena leave her step brothers it makes no sense. Why is Jacaerys being a spoilt brat? He should be glad they gained more dragons!"

You lack media literacy.

So twitter is being really fucking weird about Imane Khelif because they found out that she has elevated levels of testosterone. Anyone do this to Phelps who had the proportions and lung capacity to be a great swimmer? How about strongman Eddie Hall who has a gene that allows him to build muscle a lot more efficiently? I was discussing fandom with a friend and I realized something that my brain cannot make sense of.

For nearly a year and a half, fanfiction writers have been asked to write dark fics, to make Aemond darker or closer to the book version perhaps. And those fics have thrived.

However now that Aemond has become this "villain" (judging by some of the discourse over the leaks for the finale) people are in uproar and some fans are even shaming others for liking him. I have also seen insults towards Ewan, calling him insincere or a liar.

I'm confused. I thought it had been the point all along, to find enjoyment in darker characters? I was under the impression that the majority of us were here for unhinged war criminal Aemond, or did I misunderstand that?

If you're interested in discussing it, my inbox is open, and I'm simply here to understand. Bear in mind that I have not seen any leaks related to Aemond.

To the people that previously body shamed this talented beautiful man.
