                cradled  in  the  Lord’s  embrace,  laura  lee  doesn’t  find  fear  in  her  nightmares.  instead,  a  safe  place  for  her  dreams  to  lay,  shamelessly  and  without  guilt.  but  this  isn’t  about  her,  it’s  about  faye,  and  helping  faye  get  through  this.  laura  lee  and  God  will  watch  over  her  as  she  rests,  ensuring  protection  and  harmony.  a  gentle  hand  pulls  the  blanket  over  faye,  tucking  her  in  neatly  to  the  warm  bed.    “  is  that  too  tight?  ”    she  asks,  eyes  as  warm  as  the  space  between  covers  and  mattress,  a  warm  pot  of  tea.  not  unlike  the  one  her  and  faye  had  shared  moments  earlier.    “  if-  if  you’re  still  nervous,  um,  i  like  to  say  a  prayer  before  bed,  asking  the  Lord  to  protect  my  soul  as  i  sleep.  we  could  do  that.  i  find  that  it  brings  me  a  lot  of  peace,  and  it  helps  me  rest  easier.  ”

        i use this scene to establish laura lee’s techniques with soccer. as well as general position. we can see that she sort of bounces around a bit, sort of timid and unsure and definitely not taking as aggressive of an approach as taissa does, which doesn’t surprise me at all. laura lee’s talent comes from defending the goal and keeping the ball away from the goal, and she won’t step in if she feels that another one of her teammates was already going for it, even at a high stakes game such as state qualifiers. i think that could get her in trouble with her teammates one day because she often shies away from the ball. we can see this directly when she's literally jumping backwards out of the way for taissa to get the ball. but when she plays, she plays well. from what i can see, she plays outside/full back. i would say she specializes with blocked shots as opposed to interceptions or tackles, seeing how well she follows the ball and how focused she is.

        we also see her and allie together a lot, even outside of this scene, which definitely points towards my 'older sister laura lee' mindset, seeing as allie is a freshman, and i would guess the only freshman on varsity. i think she also realizes that allie is generally alienated from the team, and she definitely feels that way as well at some times.

        there's that little moment where she's looking back at van, which could be because she's yelling, but i think it's to make sure that everyone's coming and no one gets left behind, which is also a big sister instinct i can vouch for, from experience. always checking to make sure everyone's following and no one is getting lost, even with people who are not small children and definitely know better than to get lost.

        it's not in this set, because laura lee isn't in the gif, but we see the main cast meet up in the center of the field first- which, of course, they're the main cast -and then laura lee and allie make it and they all start to cheer. in addition to the third gif down in the right column, where we can see laura lee kind of sticking out of the circle, but this points me further in the direction of laura lee's loneliness, and how she kind of gets left out, even with her closest friends. or, at least, who she considers her closest friends. and another moment where she is out of frame for the most part, in the last gif, which highlights being left out and out of the main cast.

                slowly  dabbing  at  frankie’s  bruised  eye  with  an  ice  pack  retrieved  from  the  nurses  office,  laura  lee  realizes  just  how  often  this  event  has  occurred  in  the  last  week,  finding  herself  in  this  exact  spot.  it’s  not  that  she  doesn’t  understand,  if  something  like  this  happened  to  her  sisters,  no  matter  how  much  they  seemed  to  fight  her,  she  would  always  defend  them  to  prove  their  innocence.  but  not  like  this.  not  in  a  way  that  only  gets  them  both  in  trouble  more.  it  brews  in  her  chest  during  the  long  moments  of  silence,  a  pause  that  sinks  and  festers  and  feels  heavier  than  the  dripping  ice  in  her  hand,  pressing  down  on  her  tongue  until  she  has  to  tell  herself  to  be  brave.  be  brave,  laura  lee.    “  i  think  you  should  stop.  ”    frankie  makes  her  nervous,  it’s  always  been  that  way.  although  they  were  friends,  she’s  fiery  and  stubborn  and  she  just  doesn’t  listen,  so  laura  lee  very  rarely  tries  to  push  back.  but  she  can’t  watch  this  anymore,  can’t  watch  frankie  tie  herself  up  in  knots  and  knots  of  trouble  and  pain.  laura  lee  prays  for  strength  and  reaches  for  frankie’s  hand,  stilling  her.    “  you  know  this  isn’t  helping.  somewhere  in  you,  you  know.  ”    guilt  pricks  at  her  for  letting  it  get  this  far.  disciples  of  Christ  were  meant  to  go  out  and  do  good  in  the  world.  what  good  had  she  been  doing,  standing  by  and  waiting?    “  we  can  check  the  woods  again,  if  you  want?  my  mom  isn’t  busy  tonight  so  i  don’t  need  to  watch  my  sisters,  but  i  can’t  be  out  too  late.  ”

#ppl will be like laura lee is unrealistic in terms of like how christian teenage girls act but like#look at this scene. she is not a typical teenage catholic girl#she performed a baptism. like an entire ritual. and just Believes her friend who thinks she's having prophetic visions

also like. in her mind, she experienced a divine miracle when the lifeguard saved her and the first thing she saw was the glowing symbol of jesus' resurrection right in front of her face. she believes that she experienced the lord's power and prescence and his goodness for saving her, she literally devoted her life to him afterwards
