i think. that dr3 would've been better if munakata had been undoubtedly right. the way the story currently stands munakata is painted as an unsympathetic asshole bc he punishes makoto for doing the right thing and saving the remnants

bc the narrative tells us that the remnants were brainwashed against their will. they are the victims of junko's actions! of course they deserve to be saved! that's why we want makoto to beat munakata

but i think the story could've been so much more compelling had munakata been right. had it not been brainwashing. had the remnants turned to despair completely out of their own free will.

bc then? do you support makoto in the same way? he's purposefully saving people who murdered millions out of their own free will. they weren't controlled by junko. they did it bc they wanted to, and makoto is still making an effort to rehabilitate them. would his execution be deserved? can you root for someone who is putting the world in harm's way bc he thinks he can save them? would those people even deserve forgiveness? could they even achieve it?

i'll probably make it a longer post later but i think what makes makotos morals so interesting is how inherently selfish they are

he does things under the guise of "the right thing to do" but who says what's the right thing to do? His Own Fucking Guilt that's who
