Is it just me or is there a running theme of people going “yeah let’s not baby Martin but he’s really not that interesting of a character.”

Did we listen to the same podcast?Because I remember listening to Martin go from profoundly nervous and timid, to paranoid but very determined, to an absolute undercover mastermind in the span of 4 seasons. He played everyone for suckers up until the last second in season 4. Peter had no clue what Martin’s real objective was and assumed that he was allowing himself to succumb to the Lonely without resistance, when in reality as soon as Jon came back Martin went from quietly defeated and willing to just cast his life away, to basically attempting a Mission Impossible level scheme to screw over BOTH Peter and Elias. The only fault in his plan was that Elias Knew even in a vague sense what he was doing.

Of course all of that was for nil because Peter chose the easy way out and sent him to the Lonely, but it goes to show that Martin was savvy enough to realize that Peter’s entire plan hinged on Martin’s cooperation, and that he could use that to his advantage.

Martin gets babied, yes, but he gets underestimated and downplayed far more often, and I think that both are as bad as each other.

I saw a similar confession earlier and completely agree that Alice acts exactly how the fandom says Tim is like, but for some reason when she does it they find her annoying. And as a trans woman that makes me extremely uncomfortable, because I’d be lying if I didn’t think the fact she’s canonically transfem plays a role in the way the fandom treats her. Alice isn’t my favorite but the way the fandom has no patience for her when there’s a clear comparison you can draw between her and a popular male character makes me feel sick. This goes for a LOT of the women in Magnus Archives too.
