"Growth is painful. Change is painful. But nothing is as painful as staying stuck somewhere you don't belong."
Film still from "Better Days."
Written in black pen ink on the inside pages of an english textbook, a quote written in english from Oscar Wilde reads: "We are in the gutter / but some of us are looking at the stars." Below it is the same quote translated into mandarin.
"In an interview about theology and poetry, Fanny Howe says: 'Half of me every day wakes up and feels alien, alienated on a dangerous planet.' But there is something, she says, 'in our material bodies that protects itself around an organizing principle... if you turn in and draw on that principle you can save yourself.' That's the principle of poetry, she insists. It's like 'unifying your soul, integrating your being in spite of everything that's being taken away from you.' Through it, she's found, you can save yourself. / Perhaps it seems odd for someone with such a fraught relationship to her corporeal body to find comfort in Howe's notion that something in poetry is tied to our physical selves, and that-through it-we can engender some harmony between our bodies and our souls, some sense of cohesion in our being. But if poetry is the territory of stillness, and the singing, straining, riven thing, then it's the territory in which I know how to make sense of the margins of my body-and the manner in which it works its way through the world. I was built to slow and pay attention. When I yield, consent, and do it, something in me harmonizes. Call it what you will: purpose, grace, a storm of peace."
"I saw my childhood sunsetting before my eyes, going out as softly and serene as the late summer afternoon it left me on. There's a spirit that lives through us during every chapter of our lives."
"Waking up without an alarm / Finding yourself in a film character / Getting a parking spot immediately / Falling on your bed after a long day / Finding a new song that lights you up / Noticing the beautiful sounds of nature / Getting green traffic lights back to back / Locating something you thought you lost / Cooking a new recipe that tastes delicious / Listening to your intuition and it being right / Putting on sweats the second you come home / Receiving good news when you least expected it / Spending time in solitude and feeling contentment / Experiencing satisfaction after cleaning your space / Discovering an old photograph of a beautiful memory / Running randomly into a friend you were thinking about / Handling a situation better than your old self would have / Reading through birthday cards from previous years / Connecting with a stranger that you know you'll never see again"
Film still from "Aftersun."
A man and a young girl sit side by side, facing the shore with their backs to the camera. They both have brunette hair. The man wears green swim trunks and rests his arms on his knees. The girl is wearing a red swimsuit. Her hair is wet.
"Endings are scary and foreign. They split you up emotionally and put you in a place where you don't know what's going to happen next. But with every end of the world, there is a new world that follows."
"I KNOW too much of the World to expect good in it, and have learnt to value it too little to be concerned at the evil."
"Whatever the world looks like now. That's not always how it's going to look. There's more. There's always more."
"7. The time I spend resting my body and recharging energy is never wasted. // 8. Every hardship brings its lessons and its blessings. // 9. Not everyone is capable of seeing my worth, and that doesn't mean I have to prove myself. The right ones will see my worth without effort. // 10. Being broken won't stop me from growing and rebuilding into someone whole. // 11. My healing process has no deadline."
Film still from "Honey Boy."
A man and a young boy sit on the ground. The boy leans back against the man's chest. The man is wearing a striped blue shirt and a pair of glasses. The boy's face is not visible.
The caption reads: "You know, a seed has to totally destroy itself to become a flower."

i'll not use my brain too much but seok ryu's using humour to cope with everything she's been through and seung hyo sees through it all the time, that scene when he asks why she let her mom think she cheated, and she's like pretending that she could cheat, that she would do that, and he just LOOKS at her with so much sadness in his eyes meanwhile seok ryu won't let her guards down at any moment, which is so heartbreaking because one must wonder how much she's been through to get to a point she can't even be sincere with her family/friends. and it's all there in seung hyo's eyes and !!! amazing. because early on, when her mom asks if she's cheated he also looks at her, only her, and it's a moment you can see what he is thinking too!!! god.
