Onyx giggled. "Ah, I can imagine. Most of our commuting elites complain about rush hour." She grasped his hand and shook it, tilting her head as she saw the golden shine. "Its nice to meet you too, Manny" her smile widened as she set her weapon aside.

(Youre fine! :) ) Onyx raised an eyebrow as she adjusted her shades. A robotic Octoling? Those werent seen everyday. Her grip tightened on her e-liter as she turned to face the newcomer. “State your name and business.” The elite almost hissed.

Onyx stretched as she walked out of the Deca Tower, her E-liter 4k strapped to her back. Some of the inklings she had battled kept talking about this Emperor character and his skills as a dualie main, and she wanted to meet him. When her eyes landed on him from behind her shades, she seemed to perk up. "Hey! Are you Emperor?" She called, beginning to approach him.

(i really need to expand this blog to include my other octoling characters, but I honestly have no idea what to change my name to..)

(Hecking TRUE! Tbh the neo stuff would have fit better in the expansion as opposed to hero mode. S1 Octoling stuff looked better with their environment after all.)

I mean, them wearing engineer boots make sense, to me at least? What's stopping the boots from being both after all? Not to mention I have no doubt in my mind that at least all octoling soldiers have some engineering experience under their belts. With their society more or less falling apart, I'd want soldiers that can do on the spot repair work as well.

man idk how to explain this without deep diving into design principal so here we go i guess

the boots wouldnt be a problem if it werent for two things

1) the absolute lack of detail. theyre just these black blocks with some straps on them. in real life engineer boots still have stitch lines showing where the pieces go together. in any other game this might be ok, but splatoon puts a huge emphasis on showing the details on clothing, so they stick out! even agent 8s boots have a zipper and stitch lines(?)

2) the rest of the design also lacks detail, which yeah so did the original one, but it made up for that with variation in color. look at this

so again, the first one ends up looking aesthetically similar to the world around it, while the second is just….sleek? which doesnt fit in the world around it. maybe it would if they changed other octarians to show a change in technology, but thats not what happened
