Panella - Pondering, Always Pondering

Humans have a big cluster of dead keratin tendrils growing from our heads and we arrange them in different configurations and worry about whether other people find our keratin tendril arrangements aesthetically pleasing.

In 2006 we made this little burger meal for a competition on Craftster.org. It got quite a bit of online traffic at the time. Couldn’t find the links, so I re-edited and uploaded these for Parisa. Me and Mr L put it together, and all the food was edible: baby onion, american cheese, baby gherkin, homemade bun, handcut fries. I made the tray and the drink out of polymer clay and printed up the Craftster branding.

the witch who likes to have neighborhood parties, and she uses her magic to make the nights memorable and wild, summoning galaxies between her palms and conjuring dragons to tell jokes

the vampire who is a terrible roommate, because he leaves cookbooks featuring high-iron diets on the counter and buys a bunch of red meats that fill up up the shared fridge

the werewolf who works as a veterinarian during the week and shops on the weekend for cute pastel clothing, because their claws sometimes rip up their blouses and skirts and dresses

the siren who sings in smoky bars at night and in her shower in the morning, carefully cleaning her scales under the cold water, and the chill reminds her of the deep ocean

the harpy who paints his talons a wonderful shade of mint green, because he just wants to relax and try his new makeup and watch some awful movies on his night off

I was walking home from Duke campus last week on a particularly chilly day when an entire flock of cedar waxwings landed in a berry tree near the path. There they were, in a feeding frenzy, while the rest of us were freezing in the 20 degree F weather. They are so fun to watch, especially with all those berries in the background.
