The above picture features ’Lovers in a private room in a teahouse’ (1788), oban format, from the series ’Poem of the Pillow’ by Kitagawa Utamaro.
This Utamaro design inspired Toulouse-Lautrec (who possessed this piece) to create the below painting ’Two lovers (Les deux amies)’ in 1895.
