If I must die

If I must die,
you must live
to tell my story
to sell my things
to buy a piece of cloth
and some strings,
(make it white with a long tail)
so that a child, somewhere in Gaza
while looking heaven in the eye
awaiting his dad who left in a blaze–
and bid no one farewell
not even to his flesh
not even to himself–
sees the kite, my kite you made, flying up above
and thinks for a moment an angel is there
bringing back love
If I must die
let it bring hope
let it be a tale

If I must die by Refaat Alareer

Quote: "What uneasiness lies in being love."
Painting: A woman in a white dress, surrounded by women preparing her for her wedding, stares at the viewer with disdain.
Quote: "To feel anything deranges you. To be seen feeling anything strips you naked."
Painting: A man in robes, carrying a Lyre (Apollo) chases after a woman in a blue dress as she transforms into a tree (Daphne).
Song Lyrics: "So please, hurry, leave me, I can't breathe / Please don't say you love me / 胸がはち切れそうで"
Painting: A rendition of the final scene in the tv show Fleabag, where Phoebe-Waller Bridge and Andrew Scott's characters sit on a bench shortly after Waller-Bridge's confession. Andrew Scott's character tells her it will pass. Their forms are impressionistic and painterly, with their faces drifting away off-screen as if their very souls have detached.
Song Lyrics: "I've been the archer, I've been the prey / Who could ever leave me darling, / but who could stay?"
Movie Scene: Saiorse Ronan, playing Jo March, cries and clutches her hands together. She says "I'm sick of people saying that--that love is all a woman is fit for. I'm so sick of it! But I'm a--I'm so lonely."
Song Lyrics: "At seventeen I started to starve myself / I thought that love was a kind of emptiness. / And at least I understood then the hunger I felt / And I didn't have to call it loneliness."

On The Fear Of Love (And Loneliness).

Excerpt from Osamu Dazai’s “No Longer Human” / “The Reluctant Bride” by Auguste Toulmouche / Excerpt from “Red Doc>” by Anne Carson / “Apollo and Daphne” by John William Waterhouse / “First Love/Late Spring” by Mitski / “It’ll Pass” by Lilli (Ratsandlillies) / “The Archer” by Taylor Swift / Scene from Little Women (2019) Dir. Greta Gerwig / “Hunger” by Florence + The Machine
