2016 - 2017 - 2018 - 2019
Boy, 2020 sure was a year, wasn’t it? Not sure why it took me so long to post this. My thoughts on my art this year under the cut.
2020 was a bit of an interesting year for me, art-wise. I don’t think I actually objectively improved that much, but my art definitely changed a lot. Throughout last year I gradually got more and more disillusioned with doing lineart and my very clean cell shaded style in general, so I was experimenting with more painterly methods of rendering quite a bit in the earlier months of this year. Around June was when I began to settle on the method I’ve been using for the rest of this year, although I’ve continued experimenting with ways to incorporate a “lineart” look without actually having to go through the hell that is lineart.
Lotta fanart this year, though that’s pretty normal for me at this point. By the last few months of 2020, I’d been getting pretty good at having something to post every week, which I’ve been proud of. I’ve also been continuing to work on comic stuff behind the scenes. I say this every year, but I think I am genuinely close to having something ready to start publishing.
I also started art school in August. I have no idea how/if that’s reflected in my work, but it’s made me hyperconscious of how lacking my skill with anatomy is. It’s also been making me want to try weirder stuff - all too often I find myself just making art that looks “pretty” without thought to its deeper impact or meaning (which is not necessarily a problem, but isn’t really my aim for my work personally).
For 2021, I’d like to continue experimenting with my style & developing my personal projects. I want to explore weirder territory with my art - a lot of my work this year was rather “safe” and I’m a little worried about falling into a rut that’s too conventional. Hopefully I’ll continue posting weekly, and maybe that comic will finally come into fruition.

Self-portrait(?) from class. Yes, that's a real photo of me.

Wanted to paint a funky landscape & give a new-ish OC some love.
