A lot of people seem to interpret Sherlock Holmes being like "ohh it's very simple actually, see--" as him being arrogant like Scoff. Isn't it obvious. But I'm the same type of person (read: autistic) and in my opinion it seems likely that he really does just wildly overestimate the average person's knowledge about his extremely niche interests & he thinks he's Being Normal. Anybody could do this, right? (No). It's like that xkcd comic
"The mathematicians delved too greedily and too deep. You know what they awoke in the darkness."

It was introduced by Samuel Eilenberg and Saunders Mac Lane in the middle of the 20th century in their foundational work on algebraic topology.[1] Category theory is used in almost all areas of mathematics. Night Vale had some of the BEST one off quotes that would just suckerpunch you in the chest leave you breathless
Like the one that stuck with me was this one:
"when a person dies and no one will miss them, the mourning is assigned to a random human. This is why sometimes you just feel sad."
It's been almost 11 years... It haunts me in a good way
Just started reading Sherlock Holmes and all the adaptations are wrong. This man is a delight. He gets excited about hemoglobin and is ecstatic at the thought of Watson as a roommate. He purposefully forgets how the solar system works so he has more room in his brain for crime. He shows Watson the dirt stains on his trousers and he can tell what part of London they come from based on color and consistency. (As far as i can tell Watson didn't ask, Sherlock just gets back from walks and tells Watson about the stains unprompted.) The text specifically says "Holmes was certainly not a difficult man to live with." Why does every adaptation make him unpleasant and rude, he's literally just eccentric. He's such a goober, I love him.

STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION – 7.02 "Liaisons"
star trek tng: we gave our taciturn captain a literal injured heart but the writing treated it so earnestly that it transcends the very crude scifi metaphor for this broken hearted character
star trek picard: just give that old man a whole artificial body but never really do anything with it again lol yolo
I think one big reason why we don't consider the stars as important as before (not even pop-astrology anymore cares about the stars or the sky on itself, just the signs deprived of context) is because of light pollution.

For most of human history the sky looked between 1-3, 4 at most. And then all of a sudden with electrification it was gone (I'm lucky if I get 6 in my small city). The first time I saw the Milky Way fully as a kid was a spiritual experience, I was almost scared on how BRIGHT it was, it felt like someone was looking back at me. You don't get that at all with modern light pollution.
When most people talk about stargazing nowadays they think about watching about a couple of bright dots. The stars are really, really not like that. The unpolluted night sky is a festival of fireworks. There is nothing like it.
au idea... tng but it's set in the 80s and the enterprise is an apartment building rather than a ship

other tenants of the building include: -Picard (the head of the college that Data attends) and Q (no one really knows what he does, he just pops in and out whenever he pleases) -Troi (high school guidance counselor) and Riker (personal trainer) and Worf used to live here too but he moved out -Beverly (still a doctor) and Wesley (burnt out college freshman) -Barclay (works at Blockbusters w/ Data and Geordi) -Guinan (bartender of a secretly gay bar)
the ds9 apartment is a whole other story
I bring a "fuck around and find out" approach to life that scientists like.
Fuck around
Come up with a ridiculous question
Establish a hypothesis, case in point: "If I fuck around, what will I find out?"
Test the hypothesis by fucking around in multiple ways to confirm, solidify findings, and gather evidence
Find out
Determine if the ridiculous question was answered by the data and evidence gathered through fucking around
What are the results found after fucking around? Was it expected?
Find out - Review findings
Did fucking around help or destroy your delusions?
Will you spill the tea (share your findings) to your friends, or will you be embarassed by being proven wrong by the results?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHERLOCK AND CO!!!!!!

rip sherlock holmes you would've loved scrolling on social media for hours while your body slowly rots in bed

Trektober prompt day 8: Space Horror
I’m not above Trek camp. Give me stagnate skeletons and goofy props any day.
People only like the idea of trickster spirits. "Oh, I could deal with them, easy." But once they meet one in person it's suddenly "wow, this guy sure is annoying."

Sherlock can be so poetic sometimes omg like this is beautiful I totally understand Watson

I love when sci-fi shows try to show that "Ah yes. We're indeed experiencing Turbulence on the Space Ship" by having the actors enthusiastically throw themselves headfirst at nearest solid object

Pov: The sign of four got announced for sherlock & co
