Shores of Struggle

(tldr: Ethan can barely walk and he causes a scene at the beach. Short angsty story.)

He had been advised by everyone not to leave his bedroom, let alone his house, but as summer heatwaves hit and Ethan spent his days bathing in his own sweat, he just had to go to the beach.

Ethan expressed his desire to go to the beach, and after some discussion and planning, his caretakers agreed to help him make the journey. They knew it wouldn't be an easy task, given Ethan's near-immobility, but they were committed to making his wish come true.

They obtained heavy-duty stretchers designed to support extreme bariatric patients like him, ensuring that he would have a stable surface to lie on. They also got the help of lift systems capable of handling his immense weight, and supportive slings to minimize any risks during the transfer. As they hit the road, Ethan's excitement grew, and he couldn't help but imagine the refreshing waves crashing against his body, hoping to find a small escape from this horrible summer season.

Upon reaching the beach, Ethan felt a glimmer of hope and independence. He insisted on walking to the shore on his own. His stretched-out swimming trunks hardly covered his flabby body as he steadied himself with a cane.

But each step was an uphill battle. Agonizing pain rippled through his body, his face was drenched in sweat, and the weight of his every move was apparent. Everyone's eyes were on him as curious onlookers observed the struggle he faced. Despite the embarrassment, Ethan pressed on, determined to prove he could do it.

The trembling in his legs didn't go unnoticed, and a small group of strangers rushed to support him so he wouldn't fall over. Despite the collective efforts, less than a minute had passed when his legs finally gave out, collapsing onto the sand not even halfway through the way to the shore.

His caretakers ran towards him and quickly got him up on the stretcher, causing a huge scene that caught everyone's attention at the beach. The journey back home was a blur for Ethan, sitting half-conscious as he tried to regain his breath.

He didn't know what had happened until several minutes after being carefully put back on his bedroom's mattress to rest. He then began to sob quietly.

He could feel his legs burning from the exertion of earlier that day, and big bruises forming around his belly, but there was something else that hurt so much he couldn't focus on anything else...his stomach.

Ethan spent the following three hours gorging himself with no pause, falling asleep right after with grease-covered hands, ready to return to his daily routine once he woke up.
