I think it's so adorable that early humans took wild gourds - a tiny fruit that hollows out as it dries, making it float - and decided to make something out of it

a wild Buffalo Gourd. the small, yellow fruit is compared to a USA quarter coin. they are almost the same diameter

they thought the tiny fruit was so good that they bred it for thousands of years, making it larger to form into bowls and cups, and different shapes to become bottles and spoons

dozens of products made from carved, dried gourds of various sizes. bowls and water pitchers make up most of the items
similar to the previous image, with many bowls made from gourds. there are also spoons made from long handled gourds

and musical instruments

various drums of different sizes made out of gourds with the tops and bottoms of the fruit cut off, leaving behind a cylinder shape. a membrane tied over one side to make it into a drum
a small gourd with a beaded lattice of shells around the exterior, made so that one can hold the handle of the gourd and shake it to produce a musical beat
a series of images showing the process of turning a very large gourd into a Mandolin, a stringed instrument

And then, people took the hollow gourds they farmed, and they turned them into houses for birds. We adapted them into the perfect houses for birds, and now there are specific breeds of birdhouse gourd just for making into birdhouses

six birdhouses made of gourds, each of them painted and decorated with different brightly colored designs
natural colored birdhouse gourds hanging from wooden posts. the gourds are roughly the same size, but are various different shapes. it is winter and there is a light dusting of snow over everything in the image

And humans dedicated gardening space and time and thousands of years of breeding to make the gourds so absolutely perfect for birds, that there is a species of bird that lives almost exclusively in them

a vintage print of Purple Martins. there are four birds, drawn in a way to show off their dark indigo plumage and white bellies. one bird is hanging off of the entrance of a birdhouse gourd. another is standing on top of it. the other two are in the tree branch which the gourd is hanging off of.

blue whales are the largest animal ever recorded, like you literally need to be in a helicopter to actually see one in from a perspective with zero distortion. idk i just feel pretty lucky to be alive on earth at the same time as them and they don’t even want to kill me. they just wanna use their toothbrush mouthes to filter the ocean of smol ocean bugs. they have communities and they sing to each other to communicate. work is slow im sorry happy friday whales r so cool

My friends and I used to do this thing where we'd dress up on a theme and go do something totally normal.

We dressed up as pirates and went bowling.

We dressed as vikings and went to the grocery store. The security guard told us we had to move our longship because it was illegally parked.

We dressed as Romans and went to Blockbuster. The staff chanted, "toga! Toga! Toga!" at us.

We dressed up all steampunk and went to the museum. Tourists kept taking our picture.

It will never not baffle me how hard society tries to insist that fatness is an abnormality. The average western woman wears plus size clothing. One of the smallest garments on the scale is called a medium. Most people with anorexia are in the overweight bmi category, yet somehow that's known as "atypical anorexia". Fatness is often labeled the cause of a number of diseases, but there are literally no diseases exclusive to fat bodies. Looking at movies and television, you'd think the world was 98% thin people. It's not.

My point isn't that if it was pretty rare to be fat, fatphobia would be okay. Of course not.

My point is that we're surrounded by all these artificial indicators that fatness is unnatural and uncommon and it's just not true?? Humans are not always thin and we've never all been thin and we're not all meant to be thin. Fat humans are a normal type of human. Fatness is a feature, not a bug.

FOR THE LAST TIME

👏 APOSTASY is the rejection of a faith after having professed it;

👏 HERESY is selective belief in only some of the tenets of a faith one professes, or belief in tenets contrary to those of a faith one professes;

👏 BLASPHEMY is derogation of the honour due to God.
