The Convex joined the Vex by selling their souls to be used as sacrifice for the transformation, to join their ranks and become a vessel for their power. This means that they don't actually have souls, but have gotten used to this fact. Nobody's entirely sure if they're actually the same people they were when human...

The Vex also trade in souls in less destructive ways across the multiverse as a sort of premium currency with other magical entities, and there's rumours they actually eat them... those are neither confirmed nor denied by Cub and Scar.

When Grian's soul was eaten by Mumbo, Scar pulled them both aside for a big long seminar about the soul economy and how to identify a reputable dealer and anti-tampering clauses and all that stuff in case something like this happens again. This time it was fine cause it was Mumbo, but still, ya gotta be careful!

HELLO? OKAY FIRST THING, I giggled at that last part, just imagine like a whole hermit court case because Mumbo wanted to be human again 😭

But yes, I agree with you absolutely ; they would have different personalities before they traded their souls, it wasn't a complete change only a few things, they became less empathetic towards the living things around them (depending on how you view it they could envy the things that have souls sometimes), things that have souls are beneath them - their scamming has gotten better because they no longer need to think of the consequences for other people when they do it.

The trading of souls is actually quite rife, a lot of people give them up for the stupidest of deals, and they can never get them back - often it's a big old mess, but at least Cub and Scar don't have it held over their heads! Contrary, they're actually okay with it if you get past some of the physical changes from not having a souls...

Mumbo and Grian were lucky that Scar was around when he was, turns out (Grian less than Mumbo) they had barely any idea on how the soul trade works!
