Exactly !! I’m the exact same way, and it’s always a constant battle in my brain of “the internet conditioned you to be so inept at social interactions” vs “the internet allows you to still thrive in a society that is not necessarily built for you”
I’ve watched cj’s boburnham essay like three times I can’t stop thinking about it
Honestly neither can i. I watched that essay for the first time at like 1 in the morning and I had to write out like a bunch of thoughts afterwards but what really hit me was the fact that after I finished the video essay and thought to myself "I'm gonna not look at my phone for a while", I reached for my phone literally like ten seconds later.
my mom has always told me that I'm addicted to my phone and I've always waved her off because like, she doesn't get it. Especially when I was in high-school, I needed my phone because I'm an introvert and don't know how to interact with people and my phone is my crutch and my happy place and I can be safe there. But like. That's just it. I couldnt interact with people in real life because of my phone. I think in internet terms. I've literally been sobbing on my bed, pouring my heart out to a friend, and then paused in between shaking breaths and referenced a meme. I've kinda just noticed, it's really hard for me to express emotions or thoughts without trying to do it in a meme format at some point, and like, as CJ pointed out, that's terrifying because it kind of just takes away from the genuine emotion and attempt for connection??
Anyway, that essay left me with much thoughts about my relationship with technology and the internet and other people.
(I say, into the void of the internet).

was anyone else ummmm off-putting for whatever reason for most of their life 😂😂😂 and people would tell you that they were scared of talking to you because you were intimidating 😂😂😂 and people thought you were cool and mysterious and brooding but in reality you were just kind of socially awkward and inconsolably lonely 😂😂😂 and people were intimidated by you which is a cool girlboss move but because of that no one talked to you or kissed you or approached you 😂😂😂 and you cannot even begin to express the never ending abyss of desolation you cannot escape 😂😂😂
