Magi: Red String Of Fate
Magi: Red String Of Fate
People are told that fate cannot be changed, that your destiny is already written and falling into depravity is the only way one can follow their own ambition and will.
But that isn't true, people are the masters of their own fates. The rukh's guidance or fate is only a misconception, a residual energy, there is no pre-written fate. The real fate lies within each individual.
It is said that when one is loved by the rukh stained in black, they have the power to change fate. However, they are not the only ones with that ability.
The sacred miracles are the balance. They keep the world in proper order, guide and protect nations against dark forces known as daemons. Their vibrant red rukh is what differentiates them from the rest. They work well with both white rukh and black rukh.
A red thread symbolizes the string connecting someone to their soulmate, their true love. The crimson rukh knows the individual's deepest desires and intentions and that's why the red thread originated from the crimson rukh.
When the new world was created after Alma Torran's fall, the sacred miracles could only protect the world against daemons and not Al thamen was because they were incomplete. But a millenia later, their king was finally born and with his birth, Al Thamen and daemons gain strength.
With Al Thamen and daemons strarting to become bolder, the Sacred Miracles have no choice but to fight back with extra measures, to ensure their victory and the world's safety.

All you want to do is take a peek at the empress regnant, at Gyokuen who is possessed by Arba who you once considered your friend. And maybe, deep down in your heart, you still view her as a friend. After all, you used to fight together for a better tomorrow, protected one another and celebrated each win together, side by side. Such times are in the past, but occasionally you hope that you can trigger a change of heart within your deprived friend, hoping that she would pass away in peace, give Gyokuen her mind and body back and perhaps save Hakuryuu's soul this way.
But the prince's hatred, his lust for revenge and blood runs as deep as the sea.
You must stick out like a sore thumb as you stroll through Rakushou's streets, silken gowns elegantly following each movement of your body and your jewelry menacingly glaring back at the sun. Once again, you do not belong in this world, in this timeline. If destiny hadn't been meddled with, you would've long since been dead, resting in the Great Flow with your beloved friends and watching the world unfold from afar.
Such thoughts cloud your brain until you barely realize that you knocked someone over. A woman with reddish hair kept together by a detailed hairpin and carrying..Vinea with her.
"My apologies!," you blurt out and help the young woman to her feet. "I wasn't looking where I was going."
As the young lady stands on her own two feet again, she looks like she's about to whine or let out her attitude; you can't tell which is more likely. But instead, she, named Kougyoku, stares at you with an open mouth.
"You're Hakuryuu's Magi..," she breathes.
To your pleasant surprise, the young princess is easy to get along with. She takes you to the far outskirts of Rakushou where not a single house stands, where not a single soul would pass the two of you. Hurriedly, Kougyoku had pulled you outside the capital and asked to speak with you regarding the empire's imminent demise.
Sitting in the high meadow with you remaining afloat on your staff, she finally gains the courage to ask what's been burning on her mind.
"Why do you stay by Hakuryuu's side, [Name]?," the princess asks casually as she weaves flowers into one another. She is clumsy, but determination is locked behind her bright eyes.
Now that you think about it, you never questioned why exactly you remain by Hakuryuu's side when you're free to leave at any time. Nothing binds you to the fallen prince and his more than vulgar Magi, yet you continue to stay and even want to help him achieve his goal of finishing Arba once and for all.
You gaze over Rakushou, filled with pure Rukh, laughter and chatter, but in the far distance, atop the hill where the current palace and its empress regnant remains, there sits a black hole threatening to swallow the world whole. Although the princess can't see the deprives mass, you point your finger towards the palace and Kougyoku follows your line of sight curiously.
"Our goals align," you say softly but the look on your face is a stern one. "The goal to make a certain someone fall once and for all."
You like the young princess, but you can't tell her what happened back then in Alma Torran. It's bad enough that Hakuryuu and Judar know of another world which is still in shambles and will most likely never recover. Whoever told them about Alma Torran..you're uncertain whether to thank them or punish them for breaking King Solomon's rule.
Kougyoku frowns and looks at the little flower crown she made with insecure hands. So you would help Hakuryuu start a civil war, split the country and kill Gyokuen? She can't understand it. If you are a Magi, then why would you encourage setting an empire on fire?
If you weren't a Magician of Creation, she would fight you in order to protect what is dearest to her, but Kougyoku also knows that compared to you, she is nothing but an ant.
"[Name], if you plan on causing Kou's demise, I fear we will meet again on the battlefield." She gets up from her seat in the meadow, stands in front of you and cups her fist with one hand. "However, I would also like to ask you to look after the empire! My brothers are ready to kill Hakuryuu, but if possible..please, protect him."
Ever-so-slightly, your eyes widen and it's the first time you realize just how many people care for the prince who unsealed you from Belial's dungeon. His sister wants him to be safe, Kougyoku asks you to protect not only him, but also the empire in case it is on the verge of falling.
The longer you remain in this world, the more you realize that you have indeed a duty, a responsibility to carry.
You slide from your seat on your staff and place a hand on top of your heart, bowing your head with a smile on your lips.
"I shall see to it that this unstable time for the empire will pass as smoothly as possible, princess."

Hakuryuu is thoroughly puzzled by the unmoving Magi who's weaving some flowers into one another with delicate fingers. Many times had you said that you did not wish to meddle with this world's destiny, but as a Magi, shouldn't you want to do something? Anything?
You float on your staff, one foot tucked underneath the crook of your knee and a smile curving your lips upwards. Strands of hair frame the tender slopes of your cheeks, your throat hums a nostalgic tone.
Despite the black Rukh rushing from one place to the other, you remain unfazed and let them find home on your shoulders.
The snapdragons between your fingers change color as you let imbue them with magic, helping them grow into different shapes and sizes. Petals of magenta, blue and even white make your eyes sparkle underneath the willow tree.
Naginata lowered, Hakuryuu approaches your humming self and rests a calloused palm on your shoulder to gain your attention, but it's akin to getting ahold of air: you don't even flinch. Even when Hakuryuu lightly shakes your shoulder, he gets no reaction whatsoever.
What is it with you and your secrets?
The prince clears his throat and finally, you take notice of his presence.
"Ah!," you yelp. The flow of magic keeping you afloat is momentarily disturbed and like a child, you fall flat on your ass. A flower crown of snapdragons clumsily falls in your lap, petals of various colors float through the air.
"My apologies. You merely startled me, Hakuryuu," you chuckle and pick up the flowers.
Hakuryuu raises an eyebrow. "What are you doing here?" His voice is firm and as distant as you remember.
You show the prince the crown of flowers, fondness laced in the tone of your words. "Did you know that snapdragons are associated with strength and grace just like dragons themselves? I decided to weave them like destiny."
At that, the prince clicks his tongue. Always this useless talk of destiny. The very thing that took away everything he loved and could've grown to love. Destiny steals everything and gives nothing but hatred in return.
"I didn't mean that." Hakuryuu leans his weight against the trunk of the large willow while you're seated in the grass by his feet. He crosses his arms over his chest as he gazes upon the sun high up in the sky.
"Judar told me you're a Magi from Alma Torran. You're supposed to have died thousands of years ago, so why are you still alive?"
At the mention of your home, your gaze softens and the birds flee from the tree's branches to roam the vast, blue sky which you have grown to love, again.
"After the big catastrophe, I happened to get sealed along with Belial. My life was stopped until you came along, Hakuryuu," you say with your palm grazing over gentle blades of grass that you can't feel. "Now that Belial is conquered and the dungeon is no more, my life will continue like any other and one day i will die, too."
Turning your head upwards, you meet Hakuryuu's sky blue gaze. Although he is far from pure, his eyes still hold a sparkle which you'd like to see more often.
It is pretty, dare you say.
"..Could you..keep this a secret?"
The prince's eyes flutter shut and a warm breeze passes through his hair, carries leaves as green as the forest and settles only when he speaks. "I have no obligation to keep your secrets, Magi. After all, you could very well turn out to be my enemy, in the end. There is no need to entertain a potential opponent's desires."
"In this world, I'm neither friend nor foe. But just like everyone else, I'd like someone to know something about me," you murmur as the wind carries your wishes to the prince right next to you.
Just what is it about you? Whenever you talk about destiny like an old friend, irritation bites at Hakuryuu's skin and the grip he has on his naginata tightens. He wants to prove how wrong you are, how this thing called destiny only robs the people of their possibilities, wishes and dreams.
But when you speak like a tragic yet gentle maiden whose home is in shambles ㅡ just like his ㅡ Hakuryuu finds himself second-guessing the deep grudge he carries. Instead, he finds himself wanting to hear you speak more.
You've been living for much longer and know more about this world than anyone else. Surely, there isn't a more knowledge being, right?
A sigh slips Hakuryuu's lips which hold the ghost of a smile. To think he would entertain your wish so easily.. Judar would surely laugh at him.
"So be it. But if you become my foe, then I won't hesitate to break my promise to you."

Who would have thought that a mere crow is all it takes to trigger a change of heart within you? The black bird comes with a letter wrapped around its thin leg, cawing at you in shrill tones that make you shudder. It sits on your shoulder and uses its beak to poke at you in an anxious manner.
"No need to poke holes into me," you calm the bird with a few pats to its head and take the letter from the crow's leg before it flies off to wherever it came from.
With deft fingers, you unroll the letter, eyes scanning over the letters and widening with each word. It's a letter from the First Princess of Kou, Hakuei Ren. Up until now, you didn't even know that Hakuryuu has an elder sister.
Greetings, honored Magi of Alma Torran.
My name is Hakuei Ren, First Princess of Kou and Hakuryuu's elder sister. It has come to the empire's attention that my younger brother, Prince Hakuryuu, has gained help from another Magi. I am uncertain whether you are aware of this country's state, but it is split and if my brother continues with his revenge, he will trigger a civil war. The other princes of Kou are preparing for war and plan on claiming my brother's head if he is to kill my mother, the empress regnant, Gyokuen Ren.
I do not wish to witness my brother's execution, so I am humbly asking you, as an elder sister and not a princess, to come meet me in the Tenzan Plateau. Although I am aware that this is a selfish request of mine, I hope and believe that you are the only one who can stop what is about to happen.
Hakuei Ren
You don't have to think twice about your decision. This is your chance to get to know this world on a deeper level, to know what happened to Hakuryuu in the past. Judar said that what the prince desired was revenge and ever since that day, you wonder why, who and what. The princess's carefully-written letter lands on the desk beside you, alone and abandoned like the initial fascination you had for this reality.
Horizontally, you swing your divine staff through the air and the ruby red gem glows with magic. A magic circle appears, radiates warmth and engulfs your body as you step through the familiar circle. You need to meet the princess, the sister of Hakuryuu, since no one else wants to give you clear answers.
"I'm sorry I have to find out this way, Hakuryuu," you regretfully sigh to yourself.
When you arrive at your destination, you're met with a vast, starry night sky. Fresh is the wind that blows by your face and fills your lungs, the meadows are rich, vibrant and go much farther than your eyes can see. Not too far away, you spot horses feeding on the grass, saddles and bridles remain next to the tents of, what you suppose, are the companions of the Princess of Kou.
"Pardon my rudeness, but are you my brother's Magi?"
One hand is placed on Hakuei's chest, her fine eyebrows are furrowed in worry and possibly a hint of caution. With one mere glance, you can tell that she is the complete opposite of Hakuryuu. Her Rukh are as clear as diamonds, warm and friendly.
"I am no one's Magi, Princess," you state, staff floating behind your back and your head lowering once in greeting and respect. "All I did is lending an ear to your request."
Hakuei breathes a sigh of relief, yet there is dread on her face. "Thank you for coming, honored Magi. Please, follow me inside. I will tell you everything you need to know."
The princess holds her tent open for you and to your surprise, it's rather comfortable and spacious. Several scrolls are scattered along the ground, a small wooden table stands between two pillows where Hakuei offers you to sit down. On top of the table, two steaming bowls of milk wait. It reminds you of home once you take a sip.
"My apologies for cutting to the chase so promptly, but as I stated in my letter, I would like you to save my brother, honored Magi." Hakuei cups her bowl of milk, sets it down and looks you straight in the eyes with a begging shimmer in her own.
You shake your head softly. "Humans can only save themselves, Princess Hakuei. What I can do is to help guide your brother on the right path. Please, tell me what caused him to fall into depravity and team up with a fallen Magi."
Hakuei hesitates, wondering if she can trust you with such sensitive, personal information, but if you can't help her beloved brother, then who will? Judar is the one to encourage Hakuryuu's power trip, causing his pure hatred to flourish. The princes and princess are ready to behead her brother whose only ally is the Black Magi. Hakuei could never hurt her brother, but at the moment, she can't support him, either.
She believes you are the only one she can rely on, anymore.
"We lived a happy life back when the Kou Empire was nothing but a small country. Of course, there were conflicts going on, but my father, the late emperor, managed to unite the countries until one day, he and my brothers perished in a fire," Hakuei pauses. The following words don't come easily to her.
"Hakuryuu said that it was our mother, Gykouen Ren."
Hakuei continues her story, telling you all about Hakuryuu's studies abroad, his desire to take back the country and start a civil war to take the throne which is currently occupied by their mother. Weird people whose faces remain unseen surround her, Hakuei says, telling of strange magic which causes her hair to stand as straight as a candle.
And the more she talks, the more it dawns on you.
Your eyes widen in horror. Not only due to the terrible things that happened to Hakuryuu since he was a child, but also because you realize that this misfortune is your fault. Long ago, you failed to kill a friend who turned into an enemy.
If only you had taken her life back then.
If only you had sealed yourself along with her to keep her spirit in check.
Alma Torran, Il Illah, Al-Thamen, Arba.
You are painfully aware of Hakuryuu's evil deeds. You may not know where he runs off to when he leaves you alone, but whenever he does, the Rukh grow anxious and seem to beg you to do something. The whispers in the streets about the witch, the Empress Regnant who surrounds herself with suspicious figures and the dark premonition you always have whenever you gaze at the castle where the current empress resides.
You decided to be ignorant and pretended this world was fine when deep down, you know it is about to fall into depravity and become a second Alma Torran.
This time, there is no King Solomon to ban Arba. There is only you.
"I will destroy this fake world you created. Even if the only thing left of me is my consciousness." You want to cry.
Hakuei's soft yet deeply saddened features are caressed by orange hues, the candle flickered between life and death as the wind touches the small flame. Tears brim the princess's dark eyes which seem to be lost in memories long gone, long forgotten and yet, they are as clear as day.
"Please," she breathes and rips you out of your self-destructive daze, "save my brother, honored Magi!"
The princess breaks. Tears roll down her pale cheeks and stain her pink robes, coloring several spots a shade darker. Head hanging low, one hand cups her fist as she goes down on her knees, burying them in the dirt below. All Hakuei can see are the blades of grass and the blurry vision of the past she, too, would like to claim back.
The past in which her elder brothers and father are alive, the past in which her younger brother, Hakuryuu, was still shy, but oh so happy. The past which was taken away from her, the destiny which was supposed to unfold.
All of it is gone.
"Princess, I..," you whisper with a lump in your throat and tightly grasp the divine staff in your two shaky hands.
Slowly, you tilt your head back to gaze up into the starry night sky. The moon and the stars illuminate the pitch black night and briefly you wonder if your late friends are within those little stars, watching over you and you hope their constellation will miraculously give you a proper answer. But none would come, you know.
A sigh leaves your lips. Never did you want to become active in the world your friend and king has created. All you desire is a peaceful, normal life and to, one day, pass away to reunite with your loved ones in the sky.
But responsibility claws your back open, leaving you to bleed out under the watch of the moon and its companions. If only you had managed to actually kill Arba instead of sealing her spirit away with Solomon's help, then this tragedy wouldn't be unfolding like a lethal flower. Hakuryuu would still have his loving family, Gyokuen would never have fallen prey to Arba's possession and destiny, the thing that you fought to protect in a life passed, wouldn't run the danger of ceasing to exist.
You have to do something. No longer will you avert your eyes from the truth and duty laid upon your shoulder. Never again will you disappoint those who rely on you and let down The Great Flow.
This time, you will put an end to everything for it is your destiny. You believe that maybe, there is indeed a reason why you, a Magi of Alma Torran, was brought to this world.
Firmly ramming the end of the staff into the ground, you put your hand to your chest. Hakuei startles, jerks her head upwards and gazes upon your glowing self. For the first time in her life, the princess can see the Rukh fluttering through the air. They swarm you, giving you their strength, beliefs and memories.
"I accept your request, Princess Hakuei. As one of King Solomon's Magi, I vow to purify Prince Hakuryuu's Rukh and rid him of depravity! After all, it is my duty to protect this world and the people I love."
Hakuei's bottom lip trembles as she remains speechless for a moment. She can't believe that a Magi of ancient times heard out her request and is willing to grant her a heartfelt wish. One which she can't fulfill on her own.
Getting up from the dirt, she grasps the red robe wrapped around your body and buries her face in the soft fabric. Quiet sobs rock her shoulders up and down, relief and gratefulness is laced in her gentle voice.
"Thank you," she cries. "Thank you, honored Magi!"

warnings: injury, mentions of blood

Hakuryuu is the prince who sets an entire empire alight in the dead of night. Hot flames reach out for the pitch black night, smoke occasionally hides the sunset you adore with a pure heart.
But Hakuryuu is also your significant other who recklessly throws his body into fights. Blinded by worrying rage and hatred, he charges into battle with the few loyal followers he has all to reclaim the throne that had been taken from him by the same flames he creates.
"You're an idiot," you sniffle as you spray disinfectant on a cut following the length of the prince's biceps. It's not deep, but bleeds enough for you to get glassy eyes.
Hakuryuu hisses, the disinfectant burns. "You know I'm doing this for you, too."
"For me?," you repeat all while deft fingers wrap pristine white bandages around the cut. Perhaps, you're wrapping his arm up a bit too tight, but he deserves it, you think. "What if you reclaiming the throne ends up in your death, Hakuryuu?!"
The prince flinches at your raised voice, at the severe words spilling from your tongue he never wished to hear. Instead of interrupting you, he lets you spew out your feelings and listens like an emperor should lend an ear to his empress.
"Every night, you ride into battle, use powers beyond a human's understanding to fight someone who nearly threw the entire world into the equivalent of the void!"
Warm tears run down your cheeks and stain the collar of the dress Hakuryuu got tailored just for you. Your shoulders shake, but not because you're sobbing. Because you're upset at him and the world who is so cruel to someone who used to be as kind as the sun is to the flowers.
You hug your own body. "Every time you come back, your injuries get worse. How can I not fear losing you, Hakuryuu?"
Lowering your head, you silently cry to yourself until you feel calloused hands unravelling your arms and pulling you closer by the waist. The prince kisses your worried tears away and rests his forehead against yours. The tip of his nose is nuzzling yours as he speaks in nowadays rare, gentle tones.
At least, he still has a soft spot for you.
"I won't fall because I cannot afford to lose this battle." His eyes are stern as they're boring into yours, but there's this slight glimmer of hope hidden behind pitch black pupils.
