If I had a nickel for every time a massive Japanese media franchise had a highly marketable fan favorite character's origin story involve a sick dying girl's science dad making them, an all powerful lifeform, in some vague plan to try and cure her, and they become friends, but she dies, and the grief drives the character to villainy, and then has some sort of clone angst with one of the heroes...
