Hi Fellow Solarpunk People! I've Recently Learned About The Transition Movement (or Transition Network?)

Hi fellow solarpunk people! I've recently learned about the Transition Movement (or Transition Network?) which, according to Wikipedia, refers to "grassroots community movements that aim to increase self-sufficiency... especially around food production and energy usage". While I haven't done an extensive amount of research, I think it's really cool that a movement to encourage community-building exists and it could be a great way for solarpunks to meet like-minded people!

I've included links to The Transition Handbook and the Transition Movement web page so that if anyone's interested they can find more info easily.

About the Movement - Transition Network | Movement of Communities
Transition Network
Transition is a movement of communities coming together to reimagine and rebuild our world. Here we explain what it is and why people do it.

A basic point of Solarpunk is it's focus on local communities. So, get to know your communities!

Local Politics

How does your local Govenment work? Who are the people involved in it?

What is the main political climate and view in your area?

What are the most active community organisations?

What are Grasrootmovements in your areas?

Are there known leftist organisations or communities?

Local Infrastrucure

Libraries and Archives

independent buisnesses like bakerys, bookstores etc

central community centres

Thrift stores

Nature preservation centres or organisations

Food kitchens

package-free and bulk stores

Local Newspapers

Bus lines and scedules

Bike repair shops

Queer Bars and Centres

Tailors and shoe repair shops

abandoned or empty buildings/ properites

Local History

How did people live in your area 50 Years ago? 100? 200? 500? What are their trades, culture, how did they get their food?

What is the geological and ecological history of your area? The quality of the soil? The availability of water? Local Plants?

What are some major historical events your area went through? How did they shape the peoples point of view?

What are the oldest buildings in Town? Research the architecture and building materials, as they commonly are localy sourced and help with sustainable building in your area!

These are just some ideas so please feel free to add!

Bro, you ok? Bro, humans aren’t separate from the ecosystems around us. We’re a part of them, bro. Bro, we’re never going to have absolutely zero effect on ecosystems, because we live here, bro. Bro, I never said it had to be a bad effect. We don’t have to immediately be perfect either, bro, sometimes doing what you can is what you can, and its way better than nothing. Bro what do you mean humans are a plague. You’re starting to sound a bit like an ecofascist, bro… Bro?
