Black owned orphanage needs help with rent and food!! Please reblog!

My friend @wesonga-01 is an orphanage owner in Buguri, Uganda, and he could really use your help!! Right now, he’s struggling to afford groceries for him and his kids. He used to have more help, and could pay for things by working and donations, but right now, he is the only caretaker after his brother passed. And so these past couple months, he’s been living entirely from you guy’s kindness, which means the entire absolute world to him, and to me!! I’m trying to get more work, and look into grants and things like that, so hopefully soon I can help more than I have been able to, and make the orphanage have a more stable income! But until that’s possible, we still desperately need the help of anyone who has the ability to!!

Whew chile, the tea, the ACCURACY

unrelated to last post but topical: as the child of lawyers, I got one thing drilled into me from age 10: don’t fucken talk to cops. never talk to cops.

Anyone who says they’ve never held bigoted beliefs is 100% a liar. We get older and we learn better and we grow more understanding of the world around us. Social justice is not a contest of perfection. It’s a process of growth. That has been completely lost on this community in the past two years.

LUDI LIN 1883 Magazine — Evaan Kheraj (2021)
I am really done with the TW fandom. I mean, this post isn't about ALL fans of Teen Wolf but the majority have just ruined my experience in this fandom. Keep in mind that these are my opinions which I'm sharing and not a personal attack on anyone. So here's why I'm fed up with both the fandom and even the show to an extent:
1) The hatred towards Scott McCall is just appalling. I genuinely can't think of a reason why anyone would hate this precious ray of sunshine who is always trying to protect everyone. Like is a 16 year old and doesn't know everything about being a werewolf the second he was bitten? *Lol, he's so 'dumb'.* Doesn't immediately trust Derek because he has no reason to? *Poor Derek Scott is such a 'meanie'* Doesn't abandon Allison the moment Derek tells him to because the latter is a stranger and Allison doesn't even know about her family being hunters? *Everything is Scott's 'fault'.* Makes a masterplan to defeat Gerard and save everyone? *Fandom shrugs and continues to make everything about Stiles* His ex girlfriend dies in his arms ?*Fandom cries a tear and moves on to fawn on Void! Stiles *Saves everyone in the show, becomes the true alpha from the merit of his character *Fandom closes its eyes and fawns over one liners that Stiles threw* Literally dies and is attacked by his best friend for not saving his father when he was DEAD? *Poor Stiles, Scott is such a bad friend. Why can't he just do everything according to how Stiles wants him to? Who cares that even Stiles himself trusted Theo and confided in him only about having to kill Donovan and never clarifies to Scott that he did it in self defense.* Like I can go on and on about how much of Scott's trauma and pain are shrugged off because of fandom's obsession with Stiles and even the show makes it appear as if it was Scott's fault somehow that he died and couldn't save Stiles' father. I'm so tired. Tyler Posey was so good at playing Scott and his performance is ignored by 99.99% of the fandom.
2) KIRA YUKIMURA DESERVED BETTER! She was treated so badly by both the fandom AND the show! People were continually comparing her and Allison even though Allison was okay with Scott moving on and even teamed up with Kira in 'De- Void' episode. And why can't Scott move on? Allison wouldn't have wanted Scott to mope over her forever. And Kira's story and character development are thrown in trash and she isn't even mentioned in season 6! Like, I'm not mad that she chose herself over Scott because it's okay but they could have spent AT LEAST five minutes to talk about Kira and where she was and how she was doing. And the fandom's unwarranted dislike of her even though the show had made it clear that she isn't Allison's 'replacement' or whatever reasons people use to justify their hatred of her. Like she is a sweetheart, her relationship with Scott was cute and healthy and she doesn't deserve any hate thrown towards her. Arden Cho portrayed her so well and I hate that she was treated like this by both fandom and writers of the show.
3) Malia Tate is treated so badly by the fandom that even I was surprised by the venom hurled towards her. Malia spent eight years as a coyote, so obviously she doesn't know how to handle complex human emotions that even teenagers struggle with. And she does better than expected . She is not an 'unsupportive', 'abusive' girlfriend that toxic Stydia (i.e. not ALL stydia shippers, only the toxic ones) shippers make her out to be. She even figured out that Stiles had killed Donovan in self defense and said she didn't judge him for it. And what did she get in return? She was ditched by her boyfriend for her efforts. And no, it's not toxic that she was jealous of Lydia and Stiles because she was just dumped and wasn't given closure over it, so obviously she isn't going to be okay that her boyfriend was moving on so quickly. Like it's not ideal but it's not the worst thing. And even if you don't ship stalia, you have no reason to hate on her. Just ship your ship and leave others who don't agree with your personal opinion alone.
I haven't even scratched the tip of the iceberg but these were the only ones that came to my mind. The blatant sexism and racism from the fans really saddens me and I wouldn't be so mad if actors like Tyler Posey, Arden Cho, Shelley Hennig etc.. weren't hated on for doing their literal jobs. Like, I'm not telling you to hate Stiles or Derek (which is impossible as it is when it comes to TW fandom) or tell you to stop shipping Sterek and Stydia (There's nothing wrong with the ships inherently but I wish its stans weren't so hell bent on making everything in TW about their ship). Only that you stop hating poc, female characters for no valid reasons and stop excusing your white faves' problematic actions because they cried about it once or whatever. Like no wonder why white men are able to get away with the worst shit while poc and women suffer for no fault of theirs and hated on for things they can't control; like their race or gender.
tbh i’m kind of laughing like stiles has turned into the damon salvatore of teen wolf with one plot line that never goes anywhere. damon got 6 seasons of moping over being rejected, and stiles gets 5 seasons of prolonged flashbacks to his mother’s death ten years ago.
meanwhile scott’s death is reduced to a few fast paced pieces of dialogue.
incredible.
This might sound really weird, but if you had to pick one thing you wish had been talked about more on Teen Wolf, what would it be? Its just that you write about a lot of things from the show that I'd never thought twice about until you bring it up so I was wondering if there was one big thing or a top three things for you, and what they were. Sorry again if that's a weird question I just really like your meta!
LOL nah its cool, I get what you mean and thanks. And actually, this one is pretty easy. My biggest issues with Teen Wolf can always be traced back to one specific thing never getting addressed and having its ramifications fully explored, and that is Stiles and the Bite.
The fight in 5A has been talked about to death, but one thing I’ve never ONCE seen come up in discourse about it is the fact that when Stiles screamed ‘some of us are only human’, it ignored the fact that he was only human by CHOICE. He was offered the Bite by Peter in S1, who called him out on the fact that he was lying when he said he didn’t want it. Course, can’t really blame him for not choosing to accept the Bite from Peter of all people….but then in 3B when they thought Stiles might have his mother’s illness, Scott offered the Bite as a possibility, and from that point on, the door was open in regards to Stiles getting the Bite from Scott if he wanted it. We all know that if Stiles truly wanted to be a werewolf, he could convince Scott to give him the Bite, because both in 3B and in 6A when it seemed giving Stiles the Bite would rescue him from the rift, Scott never hesitated. If Stiles wanted the Bite, Stiles had plenty of opportunities to get it.
Now, the problem isn’t that Stiles didn’t really want the Bite. I’m not saying he should have taken it or been a werewolf. The problem is that when faced with that possibility, when having a choice, the same as Isaac, Erica, Boyd, Jackson all had, the choice Scott DIDN’T have….Stiles weighed the pros and cons and decided no, he didn’t want it after all. He wanted to stay human, he was well aware of all the drawbacks and pitfalls that came with being a werewolf thanks to witnessing Scott go through them all….and ultimately, it wasn’t worth it to him.
Again, that right there is totally valid and understandable and acceptable. What ISN’T okay is the fact that Stiles then never examined his own reasons for not getting the Bite and then applied them to Scott’s attitude and responses to his life as a werewolf.
The line about ‘some of us are only human’ wasn’t just bad because it implied Scott wasn’t truly human, it was bad because it completely skipped past acknowledging that some of them got a CHOICE about being what they were.
The other half of this equation is how Stiles selectively ‘advised’ his friend throughout the series on what choices to make, not based on how much they might have benefited his friend, but on how they best served HIM. When he made his speech to Scott in Heart Monitor about how now that he has power, he has a responsibility to protect people, Stiles actually only meant the people he personally considered worthy of protection, like his father and Lydia. When Scott wanted to rescue Derek from Kate against Stiles’ approval, Stiles outright made himself an obstacle. When Scott wanted to save Jackson, Stiles dragged his feet the whole way. Time after time, when Stiles wanted to play the hero, Scott was expected to ride shotgun, but when Scott wanted to save people Stiles didn’t feel merited protection, Stiles was the walking embodiment of a Mariah Carey “I can’t read suddenly” gif.
The two times in the series Stiles was truly mad at Scott were both after his father had been hurt, which yeah, fine, I get being upset. But the irony is in him hurling the “where were you” accusation at Scott in 5B like Scott had no place being anywhere but at the Sheriff’s side protecting him….when in both Season 1 and Season 5…Stiles wasn’t by the Sheriff’s side either when he was hurt. Stiles wasn’t useless. There’s numerous points throughout the series where he protected people or saved the day. But he blamed Scott for not being there to protect the Sheriff in 5B, when Stiles wasn’t even there either. He blamed Scott for not keeping the Sheriff from getting hit by that car on parent-teacher night in S1, but he wasn’t even at the school himself. On both those occasions, his real issue wasn’t that Scott couldn’t keep the Sheriff safe, it was that the Sheriff got hurt while Scott was somewhere doing things Stiles didn’t approve of, aka using his powers/presence according to his own priorities instead of Stiles’. In Heart Monitor, Stiles was pissed because Scott had played hooky with Allison instead of answering the phone while Stiles chose to research stuff. In 5B, Stiles was pissed because Scott didn’t immediately exile Theo from Beacon Hills from the moment Stiles said “I don’t trust him” in the premiere, without proof. Scott’s crime wasn’t failing the Sheriff in either of these situations, it was not being on call 24/7 and using his powers the way Stiles would have.
And that’s the heart of this massive misstep on the show. How often Stiles demonstrated a willingness to exploit the powers born of his friend’s trauma for his own personal benefit. Whether it was getting Scott to sniff out whether Lydia was attracted to Stiles, or expecting Scott to be available to protect his loved ones or to innately trust or not trust people based on his say so regardless of evidence, for the vast majority of the series, Stiles prioritized Scott using his werewolf and Alpha status the way STILES would have, over letting Scott use his own werewolf and Alpha status the way HE personally deemed best.
And that’s just so, so ugly. Because if Stiles wanted werewolf powers to use to figure out if girls liked him, or to protect his dad, or to be Batman and safeguard the town…..all he had to do was ask for the Bite, the same as multiple other characters on the show did. But he didn’t. Because he saw the full spectrum of what the Bite resulted in for so many of those characters, and so he remained as he was and lived vicariously through Scott, as he flat-out joked on multiple occasions.
You don’t get to have it both ways. If you don’t want the drawbacks of being a werewolf, you don’t get the perks.
Frequently people comment on the fact that a large part of why this fandom is so divisive is because all other elements aside, a lot of people just wanted different things out of the show. Most Scott fans wanted a show about recovery and survivor empowerment, while most Stiles fans wanted a show about power fantasy and the awkward outcasts triumphing and saving the day.
The single most defining flaw of the show IMO is that it was both. It was just both things for different characters. More often than not, Stiles used Scott’s story of trauma recovery as HIS power fantasy. And that’s why, in accordance to power fantasy narratives, Stiles ended the show with the girl he pursued for ten years, fast tracked for the prestigious career in law enforcement that acknowledged his skills as a detective and gave him the recognition and respect he craved. All of which he only obtained because of what happened to Scott in the pilot, and the direction that spun their lives off into.
(While Scott, y’know, woke up in dingy motel rooms to seek out other trauma victims like himself to help empower and protect them, rather than like….have the education as a vet he wanted from UC Davis while with either one of the girlfriends he loved and lost as a result of a life he never wanted but had no choice but to live BUT I DIGRESS).
How the characters are being treated by the fandom (and the writers)
First, the ones that don’t get treated badly: Stiles Stilinski, Jackson Whittemore, Peter Hale
Now the ones that do and how they do:
Derek Hale : not getting treated that badly except the fandom objectifying him
Liam Dunba: not really the character as much as the actor, but gets objectified and sexualized even tho he is underage (this has happened from age 15-now)
Lydia Martin: Doesn’t really get treated that badly except the fandom reducing her only to a love interest and some even slut shaming her, the writers always writing her in situations where the villains hurt her (physically and emotionally) example: Peter manipulating her, Jackson abusing her (he’s not a villain kinda but still), the nogitsune kidnapping her, Jennifer Blake aka the darach kidnapping and almost killing her, the kalaveras (idk if that’s how u spell it) and now theo and the dread doctors.
Jordan Parrish: The fandom hating him and even Ryan Kelley (I admit, Ryan is problematic) but the fandom sends him death threats (he has confirmed this)
Allison Argent: getting slut shamed by the fandom, fandom hating on Crystal Reed, fandom being misogynistic toward her, the fandom even made killallison trend but when she died they all suddenly loved her etc. etc.
Malia Tate: Gets a lot of hate from the fandom only because she’s dating Stiles ex. Slut shaming her, saying she’s only a love interest etc. Fandom being misogynistic toward her They hate Malia so much that some have even gone as far as sending death threats to Shelley Hennig and Malia/Stalia Stans, the only way how the writers are treating her badly is giving her little screen time/lines (she had only like 3 lines in lost frequencies) the fandom constantly pitting her against other females of the show.
Kira Yukimura: (oh boy, this is gonna be a long list), the fandom hating/being racist towards her and Arden Cho even some cast mates (*cough* Ian Bohen *cough*), people slut shaming her, calling her “Allison’s replacement” always pitting her against Allison/Crystal, fandom being misogynistic toward her, the writers giving her little screen time (she wasn’t in 2 episodes of s4 AND s5A even tho she’s a main) the writers throwing away her plotlines ex. the fox aura thing this season, they just wrote it like she left to figure it out and didn’t even show us anything about that, the writers and the fandom basically ignoring her existant all together, the fandom whitewashing Arden/Kira in icons, gifset/other edits all the time, Teen Wolf didn’t give any promotion for Kira in s5 at all (before it started).
Scott McCall: the fandom being racist towards Scott/Tyler, the fandom constantly saying that Stiles is the lead and the most important character even though Scott is the lead, people (including the writers) giving Stiles/Dylan more attention for being on the show and saying that teen wolf wouldn’t be teen wolf without Stiles etc basically ignoring that Tyler/Scott is the lead. The writers have given Stiles more backstory than Scott the shows lead!!! The fandom whitewashing him in gifts/icons/other edits, people (sterek shippers) hating on Tyler for not shipping sterek & BC he said that the show doesn’t revolve around ships, the fandom giving him hate and calling him fake after he confirmed having depression (especially after his moms death) and telling him that he doesn’t know anything about pain/depression etc!!
I’ll add to the list when i remeber more or when u guys tell me more and I only did this for the mains, there are other secondary characters they treat badly ex. Braeden, Jennifer etc.
The Unchanging Behavior of Stiles Stilinski
I was in another powerful discussion on the Teen Wolf Discord Chat Server, and we were talking about Stiles’ behavior in 5A. My colleague was bemoaning the writing in 5A as forced, because Stiles would never do what he did. I gave that some thought, and I have to disagree. Stiles would absolutely do what he did. In fact, he’s done it before.
If you look back to Season 1, every controversial action Stiles will take in Season 5A is hauntingly similar to an action that he takes in this season. The behaviors are the same even though the context has changed. Why Stiles does what he does hasn’t changed, how Stiles does what he does hasn’t changed, and, to my mind unfortunately, the consequences to him of what he does hasn’t changed. Let’s look at the three main complaints of ‘OOC behavior.’
Stiles doesn’t tell anyone about Donovan. Stiles, even though he knew that the actions he took were clearly self-defense, doesn’t tell anyone in the pack or his family about the death of Donovan Donati. When his father and Scott confront him about why he didn’t say anything, his response indicates that he didn’t want Scott and father to think badly of him “It was just the way you were looking at me that night …” and “What if it wasn’t? What if I told you I wanted him dead?” Stiles isn’t concerned with right and wrong, but only what is important to Stiles – in these cases, Scott and Noah’s image of him. So he acts on what is important to him, and ignores everything else.

When you look up Scott McCall and find more posts about Stiles than Scott...

You know what pisses me off the most about this absurd “Scott is a bad friend” tag ? It’s that most of the people using it know it doesn’t make any sense, they know it’s totally false canon-wise and character-wise. Because if they genuinely believed that Scott is a bad friend, if it was evident to them, there wouldn’t be a precise tag created specifically to specify it - because every person watching this damn show with their own eyeballs know that Scott is absolutely not a bad friend. But this fandom wants to villainize Scott so much, for the single purpose of turning Stiles into a sad abandoned little puppy that only needs comfort (comfort usually coming from the growling Alpha Derek Hale), that they felt the need to fabricate and use this tag.
