I Swear To God Im On My Last Fucking Straw-
I swear to god I’m on my last fucking straw-
On one of the reviews for the Percy Jackson show someone said “Being blonde was like 90% of Annabeth’s personality!” (In response to her being played by a black actress) and I just-
There is SO much more to Annabeth than just being blonde and white. Her dynamic is BARELY about the ‘Dumb blonde’ stereotype.
Her entire character dynamic is that she feels like she constantly has to prove herself because A)Her dad pretty much kicked her out of the house at age 7 because she was a demigod(Which was HIS fault as he’s the one who fell in love with a god) and B)Her mom is goddess, the goddess of wisdom at that. How is Annabeth supposed to live up to those standards? She constantly feels useless because all of her friends have these super cool powers and all she has is the fact that she’s smart. And she also feels like a failure because she’s the daughter of one of the smartest beings to ever exist and she STILL fails sometimes. She failed to save Luke. She spent 8 months searching for Percy and drove herself crazy because she couldn’t figure out where he was or what happened to him. She was supposed to be smart, why couldn’t she figure it out? She was one of the smartest people in camp. And she felt like she was failing everyone when she couldn’t figure things out.
again, there is SO MUCH MORE to Annabeth than just being blonde. If you ‘can’t relate to her anymore’ then you never related to her in the first place apart from the fact that you were blonde and white.
I can relate to Annabeth perfectly(and I’m not blonde), and I get her struggles. I understand what it’s like to be considered ‘gifted’ at such a young age and then suddenly start struggling at 12. I understand what it’s like to feel like you’re constantly failing everyone, like you have to earn everyone’s love. I understand what it’s like to doubt yourself every single day.
Being blonde has pretty much nothing to do with Annabeth’s character.

Why the TV Show Version of Luke is a Better Person Than the Book Version
(Percy Jackson and the Olympians Spoilers)
While I will not argue about which version of Luke is a better character or better written, I can confidently say that the show version is a better person than the book version, and we see this mostly in the finale.
But before that, let’s go over what the book version of Luke did that the show version didn’t do.
1) Go unnecessarily hard on Percy during training, especially after he found out that he was the son of Poseidon.
2) When asked about who might have stolen the master bolt, imply that Annabeth could have in an attempt to plant seeds of distrust between them.
3) Immediately try to kill Percy after he got back to camp.
The show version of Luke is blatantly more sympathetic to Percy than the book version. He doesn’t antagonize Percy for succeeding on his quest or for gaining his father’s approval. In fact, he actually tries to recruit Percy at first. He doesn’t want to fight him.
However, the extent of the show version of Luke’s compassion can be seen with what he did for Clarisse. Or rather, what he didn’t do.
Percy, Annabeth, and Grover were the ones who came up with the idea that Clarisse stole the master bolt. Luke just went along with it. They even asked Luke to warn Chiron and the rest of the camp about her. It would have been trivially easy. Whether Chiron believed him or not would have been irrelevant. Either way, it would have helped his plan immensely, since he would still be sowing discord into the camp.
But Luke didn’t do that. And by not telling Chiron, they were able to figure his plan out. So why didn’t he do it?
Simple. Because he sympathizes with Clarisse.
I haven’t gotten a good look at how many beads Clarisse has, but it’s clearly around the same number as Luke and Annabeth, so it can be assumed that she’s been at camp for about the same amount of time as them, which is longer than most of the other campers. In fact, it’s not improbable that they were all in the Hermes cabin at one point while they were still unclaimed. And she’s one of the handful of campers confirmed to stay at camp all year round.
And Luke understands Clarisse. He understands her desperate obsession for glory. He understands her longing for her father’s affection. He understands her frustration when she is repeatedly ignored. He understands her contempt when her father finally does pay attention to her but it doesn’t go the way she wants. He understands her resentment towards heroes like Percy who seem to do the impossible without any training, with a seemingly perfect home life, getting both a mommy and daddy who love him.
It wouldn’t have been right to frame Clarisse. Actually, it would have gone against everything Luke was actively fighting for. All of the misdeeds Luke commits, it’s for the sake of his fellow demigods. And no matter what your opinions are about the show, this version of Luke reminds us of that.
YES YES YES!!!!
idk if this is an unpopular opinion or not, because i’ve seen a lot of people say stuff like “percy knows better than to go against annabeth”
but see, most people - anyone with a brain, really - are way too scared to challenge annabeth. because 99% of the time, she’s right. she’s always the most intelligent person in the room. shes not only logical and strategic, but she’s sharp, cunning, and even manipulative if she has to be. (as we’ve seen when she’s faced monsters). no one goes against her. one wants to, no one dares.
expect percy. if there’s one thing he knows how to do, it’s argue with annabeth. it’s like breathing. but unlike when they were kids, they don’t truly fight over stupid things. sure, they bicker and squabble over little things, because that’s who they are as a couple. but percy is the only person who will actually challenge her on something real. something big. he doesn’t do it lightly, because he knows how smart she is. but if he truly believes there’s another angle to something, or that she’s wrong because maybe she doesn’t have all the information, or maybe his heart is just in a different place - he’ll go against her. we see it in mark of athena a couple times. (their face-off kinda puts hazel in a trance). in BotL, there’s an argument between them, and i remember it’s stated that watching them argue is like watching an intense tennis match. its heated and fast paced. people make fun of percy for being dumb, and yet percy is the only one that can keep up with annabeth. he knows her better than anyone. he doesn’t think the same as her, but he knows how she thinks. so yeah, he will call her out. he’ll tell her he disgrees. he’ll even tell her that she’s wrong. and people think he’s crazy when he does it.
but annabeth respects the hell out of him for it. and while she might dismiss anyone else immediately, she won’t with him. because she respects him tremendously, and knows if he’s challenging her, there’s something to it. it doesn’t mean she’s gonna let him win, or that she’s gonna back down, because they are both ridiculously stubborn and determined. but he’ll go head to head with her. he’ll have a screaming match with her. and she loves him for it. she respects him for it. and she finds it ridiculously attractive.
because percy and annabeth are equals.

HEY EVERYONE! I am doing an art thesis for university based on the narrative of Percy Jackson and the Olympians and I need people to take my survey in order to be able to complete the research of my project and be able to start the practical part. It’ll only take 5 mins but if you dont have time reblog this so more people can see it! Thank you 😭
Update: those who clicked or reblogged, i adore you, thank you ❤️
Can not stop thinking about what could happen after Trials of Apollo, cause optimistically he does change. Apollo’s been humbled and he actually got to live as a mortal, again for the third time, but he made friends and connections.
Like, maybe after he’s gotten his divinity back, he splits his essence in two so he can do his job but mostly so he can hang out at camp half-blood willingly as an instructor. He just remains in his Lester form, partially because it puts other at ease but also because he’s grown to like it. The campers know him as Lester, they treat him like he’s an older brother when he isn’t teaching an archery or music class.
The campers call him Mr. A or Lester, though the older campers don’t really tell the newer campers who he is, it’s funnier to see their shock when they realize at some point.
Apollo doesn’t just stay at Camp Half-Blood, he goes to Camp Jupiter as well, though he tends to mostly stay in New Rome. Of course, he also goes to visit his friends he had made outside of Camps like Meg, who he considers his little sister.
The other Olympian’s are distant, but Artemis and Apollo interact with the mortals and demigods the most, along with Dionysus but that’s more so a punishment for him. Artemis with her Hunters, and Apollo with the campers.
Sometimes, Apollo will have a simple quest for demigods, such as finding a lost object. Once the demigods set out, he follows them to keep them safe, even if they don’t know it. He already felt grief and heartbreak, he doesn’t want the demigods to know it as well.
Optimistically, Apollo changes. He’s an instructor, an older sibling, and a friend to demigods.
Some habits are difficult to break, he is over four thousand years old, and a god, but learning is a process. The moments Apollo grows to like are the simple ones with others. And of course, he remembers what it’s like to be human.
