yknow what what the heck. this fic is gonna take me a while to make so im posting the basic jist of the soulsplit au here. maybe ill make an ask blog for it when i have proper refs or something... most of this is copy and pasted off my doc for the au
takes place right after the DSaF2 pure evil end, when blackjack asks why you’re doing what you’re doing – i envision this occurs because blackjack drags jack into the void and is like Hey what the fuck man
jack, currently being spurred on by henry and barely lucid, says he’s chasing henry’s legacy
blackjack, instead of abandoning jack, decides he’s going to interfere before anything can get worse and tries to put jack down for good
the ensuing struggle between the two of them eventually leads to the fabric of blackjack splitting into two – the logic that insists it should basically stay out of things and the emotions that are full of hate and a bit of love and spite and regret and anger and everything
the split parts of jack’s soul wake up in reality, with neutral end jack in the DSaF2 pizzeria as it’s about to be shut down and legacy jack still in vegas with dave
meanwhile good end jack is trapped in the flipside and takes on a bit of a more fucked up “void plagued” appearance.
for legacy jack: he wakes up in vegas with henry in his head and feels remarkably hollow. he kind of... doesn't know what to do with himself when he doesn't have somewhere to put all his upset and rage and he can't Kill right now. he also feels empty and thinks he can't feel things because of this and starts depending on henry to feel "for" him which eventually comes to a head when jack believes he can't properly care for dave
because blackjack saw the fazbunker, legacy jack knows about it, and he bails during the last night at vegas because he remembers seeing a certain bear suit down there that could let henry breach into the mortal world. tl;dr jack lets himself get springlocked by the jacktrap suit which kicks out his half of the soul, henry takes over jack's body, and the half of jack's soul that was in legacy jack's body possesses the jacktrap suit. theyre in some weird co-body situation. when they return to vegas dave freaks the fuck out and bails, which only leads to legacy jack depending more on henry
meanwhile neutral end jack follows the standard DSaF3 plot course of making a new fazbender's after he gets his bearings, hoping to block out the buzzing in his head about the promise with work. this both unintentionally baits jacktrap over, which has its own issues, and leads to neutral end jack accidentally dredging up a happiest day machine that good end jack can speak through. it keeps coming back to the restaurant, even when neutral end jack throws it out. it always comes back.
neutral end jack starts going by "blackjack" fueled by his belief that he's the most reasonable part of the soul but also as an alias to distance himself from the other two. this doesn't work very well
and speaking of good ending jack -- he's stuck in the flipside and can go in and out of the void and the flipside layers with assistance from the happiest day arcade machine. otherwise though hes just stuck down in the void. he's basically trying to find ways to commune with the two halves of his soul so they can gel back together and jack can get back out of the flipside and hopefully fix things.
in the background, dave has the worst time ever

This is me - Carl or Ray! And I REALLY need to move out of my place of residence as soon as possible. The reason of the emergency is that I need to get out of a toxic environment ASAP The big problem is my mother, who is NOT mentally stable. She treats me very ambivalently: at first good, then suddenly horrible. She threatens me with violence, and plays on my emotions and mental health. She is often transphobic towards me, doesn't value my opinion at all, and if I don't agree with her, she starts a scandal and threatens me.
She doesn't care that I'm haunted by suicidal thoughts, saying that it's my own fault and that I would finally LEAVE THE WORLD, and then she abruptly changes her position, deceiving me with words, saying that:
"I just ACCIDENTALLY said it, it wasn't what I meant"
And then again it loops in a circle: scandals, threats and, that I just misunderstood it all and that it was my own fault. She is trying her best to keep me in her house, telling me I can't go anywhere because I'm not capable of doing anything.
My mom said herself that despite the psychologist's recommendation to go to sessions too, she says she doesn't have time and she's old, she just has such nerves and it's NOT a bad thing.
She's not a very b*stard. I live in a warm place and have everything, but her mentally is not stable. Accusations, threats of violence that she will start the same way she did when she was a child and verbal abuse towards me. All her negativity towards me, I am not going to take it anymore, I have enough frayed nerves and tears as it is. I don't feel safe in this house. I don't want it to continue..

Ahmed is six years old; he and his family are currently fighting to survive the genocide in Ghazzah, and have been for over a year now.
Much of Ahmed's family is disabled; his father is diabetic, his brother Abdullah is autistic, his brother Fathi is blind. On top of that, many of them have been injured by the bombs and shrapnel, like Mohammed, who is suffering from an injured leg.
They were displaced from their home by an evacuation order, and have since taken shelter in a UN school in Deir Al-Balah.
Life is incredibly difficult; they are surrounded by disease and death. The water that's available is contaminated, and food is scarce. Ahmed and his siblings have suffered malnutrition due to how little there is to go around. Ahmed's father lost his shop and no longer has a source of income as a result, making securing resources even more difficult than it would be anyways.
This description, in all honestly, doesn't do justice to just how horrific their situation is. Please do not grow numb to words like "contamination", "disease", "malnutrition", and "genocide". These are more than words on a screen; these are real things being suffered by Ahmed and his family as well as millions of others in Ghazzah.
In order to help them to evacuate and rebuild their lives, they need to raise €50,000. So far, they've only raised €3,847 with their last donation being 17 hours ago.

literally every day of my life. the walmart customer behind me is being subjected to looking at this over my shoulder
blackjack is so fascinating and so under-studied in the fandom for what he is. because directdoggo has confirmed jack is pretty similar to how the "real" jack was when he was alive, and blackjack used to be the same way! blackjack wasnt always a cryptic fuck! both of them were basically the same, once! but, especially shown in the bite of '83 cutscene where blackjack sees the bite of '83 and recalls the deaths of people prior, blackjack is overall so consumed by regret and remorse and -- while he likely wouldn't admit it in such terms due to henry's connotations with the word -- spite.
blackjack does regard peter and dee as family, that much is true, but going off his speech in the dsaf3 good end? that's largely surface level. they are his brother and sister, yes. but then he goes on to call them monsters and effectively use them, along with the rest of the flipside crew, as a means to an end. and that seems to be all he views them all as, at the end of the day. sure, he has ties to these people, but he doesn't see them as people to begin with at the same time. this doesn't mean he hates all of them or even feels negatively towards them (with the exception of jack in some weird ways but i'll mention that later), but they just aren't people to him. blackjack is the real jack kennedy. he is the soul. fundamentally, he's the most human thing here.
blackjack ultimately craves a relief that is basically impossible to entirely get. while initially he definitely did care about what happened to peter, to dee, to himself, i think his desire has, over time, grown inherently selfish. he wants a relief to his guilt and anger and remorse as much as jack does, but instead of having a promise to guide him, blackjack calls the shots. blackjack is the jailor. the soul. he gets to do what he wants, whatever will bring him catharsis -- he is judge, jury, and executioner, and nobody else gets to interfere with that, judging by his reaction to jack just stating blackjack is doing something wrong by subjecting henry to eternal life. blackjack has little interest in what won't bring him comfort. he's embodied by this constant grief loop, and that feeds into how blackjack feels about jack.
clearly, blackjack wants jack to follow through with the promise in some way, but... like... blackjack also thinks remarkably little of jack. jack is just the flesh that held blackjack back from getting revenge. blackjack is the one who's fixing things, in his eyes, and jack is the one who's redeeming himself and nothing else. even in dsaf2's good end, after jack saves the kids, blackjack says "i'm proud of us". jack's accomplishments are blackjack's, because jack isn't jack kennedy, blackjack is. it's weird and complicated but blackjack imo views jack (the one we play as) as just a single-minded husk with no purpose beyond what he's been lent with the promise. blackjack doesn't even realize he's just as one minded

ill draw them a more proper true-to-dsaf-style design but. this stemmed from a joke about "what if henry, too, could break the fourth wall, and HE had a narrator the way jack does". and so. here comes this guy. TECHNICALLY did a form of soul research before henry did but it was more necromancy in spirit (pun unintended). he died but was convinced that someone would use his research to bring him back so his soul refused to recede out of the mortal plane but it never had a vessel, nor did it have enough power at the time to make its own vessel, so it just kept kind of. lingering. eventually when henry starts his soul research, mixed with how long the narrator's soul has been lingering, the hope and desperation lets the narrator manifest a proper form. but only henry can see him for some reason. so now henry just has this fucking. weird soul guy. who keeps following him around and lingering and commenting on everything. initially henry is so sick of this guy but slowly henry comes to learn of The Narrator's research and body of work and also that he's pretty respectable when it comes down to it. so henry tolerates the fact the guy is kind of unhinged

Is it not completely insane and mind blowing that a few days ago just marked a solid year of this and we still get lukewarm headlines by mainstream media about how Israel is now ACCUSED of attacking Gaza hospitals (w no actual penalties for it)…. Think pieces by the New York Times that do their absolute best to tiptoe around the subject, if not outright fail to address it…….. and this is most insulting of all but I even saw more than one headline “honoring the memory” of the IOF soldiers who died in a recent attack…… and this all sounds made up but it’s not.
