Xiao x Zombie!Reader

Summary: Part 2 of my fic "Even After Death", I suggest reading it first for plot reasons. You visit him again, then again, and then again, he seemed lonely, just like you. As the visits begin to frequent, Xiao fears that he had fallen once again. It seems that his heart has turned fragile now that he "met" you, for the second time.

Your beautiful humming fills the air, the tune being carried by the wind as you once again wished upon the starts that Xiao was there, that he didn't leave.

Perhaps he had lost his love for you, all forming into adoration for the traveler. It had been the sixth time that he chose to leave you in favor of going with Lumine for her adventures.

You're jealous...

He'll be back soon, no need to worry.

Tomorrow, it's time to go out to gather some ingredients.

What a bad idea that was... In your last moments, you wishes that your body still had the strength to call out his name, but everything hurts.

The Yaksha's face was the last image on your mind as the gang's leader pierced the sword that your lover had given you through your chest.

That was what had happened on the day of your death.

The same day also marks the beginning of your eternal undead life.

That day, you forgot yourself, you forgot everything. How to feel, how to love, who you had love, how to be happy.

That day, Xiao had begged for you back, cried as your cold body refused to wake up as he hugs you tightly.

That day, he had chosen to create a special talisman with the help of the Adepti. It would bring you back to life... sort of.

And until now, he pretends that he's okay, that as long as you're alive, he was happy. Yet he's aware, you forgetting everything about him, about the love between you and him, it made him feel like he's constantly dying inside, a million jabs at his heart per second.

"Xiao...?" You stood behind him, a plate of the usual Almond Tofu inside the basket you brought with you.

Ahh, he was zoning out again, thinking about the past.

"You want me to get more herbs for you again?" You nodded as an answer, he looked at you, his expression soft. The first time you saw him (as a zombie), you wondered why people called him hard-headed or intimidating, he seemed so nice to you.

"Right, let's go."

'Xiao is nice.'

'Xiao is very helpful.'

'Xiao loves Almond Tofu.'

'Xiao is very good at climbing (can also teleport).'

'Xiao really likes Qinxing Flowers.'

'Xiao hates treasure hoarders.'

You write all that stuff down on your notebook as you sat on the grass, waiting for Xiao to come back with the Qinxing Flowers you asked for.

You did that for all the people you met as a zombie, so that you can have reminders when you forget.

"I'm back." You look up from your writing to see the Adeptus standing in front of you, a basket of Qinxings in his hands. You stood up, dusting your clothes off before taking the basket from him.

"Thank you." You bowed your head in thankfulness. You look at the basket in your hands. "You know, Qinxing is also great for Flower Crowns." You take out one piece of flower from the basket, raising it up for Xiao to see.

Does he know that?

Of course he does, you use to make him Flower Crowns out of Qinxing back then, ignoring his side comments that it was gonna rot in just a few days.

His heart craves for you and your silly mortal acts once again. Everyday, he misses something about you.

"Would Xiao want one?" Your question caught him off guard. For a second, Xiao felt familiarity as you look at him expectantly.

He reached his hand out to your own, accepting the flower in your hand. "If it's okay with you, I'd like one."

He sits in front of you on the grass, watching as you carefully tie the white flowers together and forming a circle... exactly the same way as you always did. Back then, he would think that it was a waste of time to just sit around and make something entirely worthless, yet now, he savoured this moment, watching your face carefully as your now usual stoic face turns soft, your eyes tracing over your work.

"Done." You say with a somewhat cheerful voice, standing up and stepping closer to Xiao's sitting form.

"It looks great." Uncharacteristically, he gives out a compliment.

You slowly put the flower crown on his head, making sure that it was placed correctly, his eyes look up to your face as you did... you had a small smile as you placed the crown on him, it melted his heart.

"There, now you look even prettier!" You exclaimed, clapping your hands after you placed the Qinxing flower crown you made on Xiao's head.

"This is humiliating." Xiao said, avoiding eye contact with you. "It'll rot in three days."

You pouted at him, despite his head turned away. "Aww, that's mean, Xiao." You poked his cheek. "Plus, you always say that, but I still make these for you, so why do you bother telling me anyway." You giggled, cupping his face and turning his head to face you.

"Why is my little baby so grumpy all the time?" He looks at you deadpanned, despite his heartbeat growing faster when you called him baby.

His eyes widen as you suddenly kissed him on the lips, a quick peck, but it still managed to shock him. "Hehehe, you know, kisses are a cure for everything, even grumpiness."

That memory flashed before him, "kisses are a cure for everything" was on his mind as his eyes fell onto your lips, your eyes drop from looking at the flower crown on his head down to his mesmerizing golden orbs.

"Y/N..." Xiao whispered your name, in your ears, it seems so... familiar.

"I miss you..." He cupped your left cheek with his right hand, despite his gloved hand, he still feels the familiarity of your skin.

You didn't know what that meant, why would he miss you if you'd only seen each other a couple of times. Yet, your dead heart begins to feel alive, like it sensed something that it really deeply loves.

The man before you sealed your lips together with a sweet kiss. His hand found their place on the back of your head and waist, your body falling onto his lap, somehow your arms knew exactly where to put themselves on his body, around his neck.

The kiss was passionate, you haven't known him for long, but it feels like you're at home right there in his arms.

Xiao had slowly pulled away, hand dropping from your head down to your cheek. Kissing you again, he felt his adrenaline rise.

He looked at you, ready to kiss your sweet lips again. But he stopped himself, after seeing your reaction...

You seem so confused, so lost.

"I shouldn't have done this." You once again look at his eyes, his arms slowly pushing you off him. You don't know why, but him pushing you away... it makes your heart ache.

His voice begins to falter, "I should have just let you live your life." The Yaksha stood up, rubbing his hands on his face in frustration.

You look up at him, not liking the fact that he seems so lost and lonely. At that point, a part of you just wanted to bring him into your arms and shoo away all his troubles.

"I was selfish. I... I wanted to be a part of you again, of your life." He looked away from you, his hand covering his eyes. You don't dare to peep in on his venting.

"But it just reminds me... everything that we had...."

"It's gone."

"I shouldn't have shown up when you came to Wangshu Inn. I should've just left when I had the chance." Now, it seems like he was talking to himself rather than you.

"I just wanted to be with you again." After holding in his emotions since the day you left him, he just needed this, needed to vent, to cry, even if it made him feel pathetic.

You... were the reason he was hurting. You didn't like that.

"I wish I didn't die." You looked down onto your hands, now having a clue to who...

Who you used to be?

"I wish I fully remember who I was." You stood up, looking back up at the Adeptus in front of you, hurt and heartbroken.

"I wish I remember Xiao." You walked closer to him. His forearms wipe off the tears he had shed.

"But meeting Xiao for the second time... it was the second best thing that ever happened to me." With his breathing heavy, he looks back at you... and you,

You gave him a smile, a genuine wide smile.

"The bestest thing was when he did this." With that, you pressed both your lips together again, your hands on his cheeks as you kiss him in pure bliss.

When you pulled away, you felt his long breath hit your face. "W-Why did you--?" You grabbed his hand, putting it above your chest, where your heart should be.

"My mind doesn't remember... but my heart does." You immediately hugged him, resting your head on his shoulder and nuzzling it. A content sigh falls out of your lips as you feel him slowly hug you back.

"I-If you don't mind, can we... always be like this?" You hear him whisper, his tone made it sound like he's hurt, but he's healing.

"Lovers?" You giggled a bit, you didn't even know you could do that after you turned into a zombie. You thought you would always remain stoic, mediocre, monotone.

Seems that even after death, the soul doesn't change.

"Yeah..." You let go of him, and facing him again, you see a small smile on his face.

"I'd love to."

Your eyes widen, as if remembering something. You look back to where you were previously sitting, there sits your basket and your memory notebook.

You walked back and grabbed the notebook, opening it, you wrote.

'Xiao loves Y/N.'
