Hard Agree. Especially when it’s on a site that doesn’t tally views on your work. As far as I know, only 2 or 3 people even look at my Nuzlocke Series, Here It Goes Again, and my only real impact on this site is the Team Galactic Fridge Post. And while I appreciate those bits of attention I *do* get, it’s disheartening when there isn’t something more on my art posts.
It gives me a bit of anxiety, worrying that when I get to a certain unannounced project I’ve been brainstorming for a better part of my young adult life, it won’t get ANY attention and it’ll be basically for nothing but the process of doing it.
If you like what I’m doing, please give me a sign.
thinking about this well-intentioned but ultimately tone-deaf post:

and these responses to it explaining that no, it really isn’t that simple, especially from the viewpoint of hobbyist creators, professional creators, and creators who are TRYING to go full-time professional:

Do we create because we love doing it? Yes. But does it hurt when you spend hours and hours laboring over your work, only to put it out there and get little to no engagement? ALSO yes. Two things can be true at the same time.
And that’s not even accounting for how feedback is what helps aspiring full-time creators know what resounds with their audience and what doesn’t. I CANNOT EVEN BEGIN to explain how many times I’ve gone through the tags of people who reblogged my work, not just to cheer myself up and know that my work struck a chord with them, but also to take note on what does and doesn’t work in my art. How are we supposed to grow without feedback?
Being a small creator HURTS sometimes, you guys. You compare yourself to accounts with bigger follower numbers. You juggle a full-time day job with creating for free, trying to figure out what pleases The Almighty Algorithms so that your work can make it onto the social media feeds. You wonder if anyone even appreciates the work you’re putting out into the world. Yes, we do this because we love it. But when we get thousands of ‘likes’ on a post, only to get nothing but radio silence when we post about our open commissions or active Patreon? Not even a share, or retweet?
Pardon my French, but that fucking hurts.
