Caregiving 101: The Basics
🧑🏽🍼 Caregiving 101: The Basics 🧑🏽🍼
Hey kiddos! Over the years I’ve had lots of new CGs ask me for tips on what they can do to be the best CG they can be. I decided to turn that question into a post for y’all. Being a CG is something that takes time and experience, so we’ll just be going over the basics that every CG should know!
What is a Caregiver?
A caregiver (CG for short) is a person who cares for and looks after a regressor while they are small!
Can I only be someone’s Caregiver if I am dating them?
Not at all! Not every regressor and CG are in a relationship. Sometimes a CG and regressor are just friends, this is called a platonic CG!
Is it easy to be a Caregiver?
The short answer is “No”. Being a CG is a lot of responsibility and it is not a task that someone should take lightly. Caring for another person can be hard sometimes, it can be emotionally taxing. This isn’t to say that being a CG is impossibly difficult, but if you aren’t willing to make a commitment to your regressor and take on the responsibility of caring for them then you should re-consider being a Caregiver.
Do I have to be a CG 24/7?
Absolutely not! It’s unresonable to expect a CG to be in a perpetual state of caring all day every day. Just like most regressors are not regressed 24/7, most CGs are not in caring mode 24/7 either. The most amount of caring is done while the regressor is regressed, and when they are not regressed the relationship dynamic is however the two of you want it to be.
What are some good traits to have as a CG?
While the best qualities to have depend on the person you are caring for, it’s always important for a CG to be patient, emapthetic, respectful, and willing to learn! It’s also very important that you and your regressor set clear boundaries with one another and respect those boundaries at all times.
How can I be the best CG I can be?
Being a CG is not an exact science, every caring relationship is unique to the CG and the regressor. However, no matter what it is vitally important that you and your regressor communicate. I’m going to say it again just because of how important it is; no matter what you and your regressor need to communicate.
No one knows how to care for your regressor better than they do. If you don’t know how to care for them or you feel like you could be doing better, you should talk to your regressor. Ask them how they want to be cared for, ask them if they feel well cared for, no one will be able to answer those types of questions but your regressor.
Is anything else that’s important to know?
There’s lots to being a CG, and it’s impossible to fit it all into one post, so be sure to remember that there’s more than is covered here. With that being said it’s very important to remember to take care of yourself too! You may have a regressor to care for but you can’t care for them if you aren’t caring for yourself too. If you ever start to feel worn down or burnt out then let your regressor know and take some time for yourself. Your well-being is important too, don’t neglect yourself just to care for someone else!
