Hi! My question is: what inspired you to write your stories? (especially Story Thieves, since I still can't wrap my head around how the plot is SO GOOD)

Aw, thank you!

Honestly, I never know how to answer this, as I have no idea where inspiration comes from, other than just random ideas that pop into my head over the course of a day, or writing a book I'd want to read. But once I have an idea, like "a girl who can jump into books and become a part of the story," that's when I sit down and think about it for a pretty long time, several months to a year, and see where that idea might go, build up the characters in my head, and what fun things I could do with the story.

So the inspiration is usually the easiest part, unfortunately. I tend to e-mail myself those random ideas, and stick them in a folder for later, and right now I have ... 782 messages in there (yikes). It's the sitting down and thinking/daydreaming/building out the ideas that takes all the work, and hopefully leads to a story that other people will like!

(Other random ideas that started that way, and I realized I could use for STORY THIEVES?

--Descendants of Sherlock Holmes and Professor Moriarty at a boarding school, only the Moriarty descendant is trying to be good, and our hero.

--A girl's future self sends her back a time machine, only for the time police to arrest her, since her future self is a time criminal.

--Reverse of Superman origin, where a girl from Earth is sent to another planet before Earth blows up.

That last one in particular would never have worked as a story on its own, but it worked pretty well for one character in a series!)
