The idea that something JK posts would be considered tone deaf is interesting to me. As if JK is composing some kind of deeply meaningful piece of social commentary or something.

People can have very different approaches to social media. Some, like our Jiminie, seem to overthink everything and may post rarely because they’re afraid of making “mistakes”. Then there are those, like JK, who don’t particularly care what people think of him, who post a lot if they feel like it and don’t give what they post that much thought. What armies over analyze and give great weight to is likely a harmless joke to JK. I very much doubt he’s sitting there considering all the possible ways weirdos on the internet may misconstrue his words. He shouldn’t have to either. I’m happy JK seems to enjoy insta a lot. I hope haters don’t drive him away.

I think it’s also worth remembering that we don’t have to like and agree with every single thing the members say. We are all different and won’t think alike in all things. Just stay respectful and consider and reconsider before mouthing off about these things online. So often the things BTS gets hated on are so minor it’s tragic.

Do you think BTS is aware of the hate that Jimin gets from tkkrs? There’s so many of them, I find it hard to believe that BTS doesn’t know about it. Like Jungkook’s joke is technically a harmless joke to make about his friend, and I have no doubt that JK loves JM, but it feels tone deaf.

To some extent, yes. Several of the members have made comments in the past that indicate that they read fan comments, that they watch fancams on Youtube and watch compilation videos or funny videos. They have made comments that seem almost like a direct response to something the general fandom said or joked about, so it would be almost impossible for them not to see the hateful comments that Jimin and other members receive. Especially if they also read comments from their international fans, because 90% of the problem is them.

Jungkook just said one word and unleashed a myriad of reactions, good, bad and funny. Here the problem is not what the members say, here the problem is how a group of people interpret what they say. It is sad that their suppost fans pretend that they should censor themselves or be careful of every single thing they say or do, especially the maknae line.

All day long many have basically blamed Jungkook for the reaction of a group of people who react that way to the slightest thing, they have insulted him without insulting him and blamed him for saying a single word about a question that was most likely meant as a joke. All day long you have been questioning Jungkook's intentions and with it his relationship with Jimin, regardless of what you all think they are.

It's sad that you always choose to question a person who is obviously important to Jimin, who really is his friend and who really knows him, much more than any fan, that you basically wish he wouldn't talk about Jimin anymore or at least choose his words wisely when referring to him, it's sad that you would rather say that his answer was tone-deaf instead of blaming the only ones to blame for all of this.

You claim to love Jimin but you constantly ignore his words and actions. You doubt his character and personality. You claim to love Jimin but you constantly question his ability to judge a person and to decide whether that person deserves his friendship, affection and respect.

By questioning Jungkook and his intentions you all think you are defending Jimin but really all you are doing is insulting him.

I saw many k-kookminers react to this with vids of JK boxing & such, it gave me the implication that perhaps JK responded in sort of a challenging/sarcastic way? I had also looked up the phrase & found that "그럼요" could either mean 'of course' or 'of course not' depending on the question asked. I was wondering if you could explain this more?

There's a lot of different ways to express the affirmative, "of course" meaning in Korean (그럼요, 당연하죠, 물론이죠, etc). They each mean similar things, but the tone/force that they give off are all slightly different. Out of those, 그럼요 comes across as having a more relaxed (the word I want to use here is "여유로운") tone. Which is why it lends itself to a more sarcastic, jokey feeling and why a lot of k-kookminers interpreted it as a challenging — "Sure you can take him. If you can get through me" — kind of way.

Overall, I feel like tone is one of the biggest things that gets lost with translation. While 'of course' is the correct translation, it inevitably falls a bit short of conveying the nuances of how 그럼요 can come across and be received. This kind of gap makes it possible for there to be misunderstandings, but I hope that it's abundantly clear that in this situation, JK was giving faux permission to a fan in an obviously joking manner.

(That was my interpretation yesterday and I even told a friend about it and now I see that the translator dalloga interpreted it the same way today 😌 me, not knowing Korean: wow I know so much Korean).

It's not the first time he says something like that. This is from some years ago, a conversation with a fan during a fansign.

He's also mentioned a lot of times that he hates lies and liars and he doesn't lie. Everything is coherent about who he is, tbh. I personally have never been one to believe he leaves a lot of room for misunderstanding about who he is and what he stands for.

And I think about a behind the scenes clip while they're filming the dynamite performance for the VMAs 2020 and he's play fighting JK and telling him "why would you lie". Also his birthday live when he called out JK when he said that his gift was on a boat over there and then with the cake 🤣 it's small things, but yeah. He has made himself clear on what he thinks about pretending/lying.
