“The books that the world calls immoral are books that show the world its own shame.”
Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray
Yesssss 🥺
Gatsby wasn’t in love with Daisy. When they first met, he was, but over time he fell more in love with his perception of her than Daisy herself. We know this.
He was truly in love with Nick. Think about it. Gatsby never told Daisy about his past. He never even told her his real name. He did, however, feel an inclination to tell NICK. He only knew Nick a short amount of time, but almost immediately he’d told Nick more about himself than anyone he’d ever known.
Gatsby was in love with Nick, but I don’t think he knew it. I think he still believed the feelings he had were for Daisy, and the reason they were so intense was because she was so close, and not because Nick was next to him the whole time.
centigrade sounds like an insect whose legs you're counting. celsius sounds like an ancient sea god. fahrenheit is what german people say after they sneeze, i think. and kelvin? i think i know him, didn't he just break his arm at the skate park
Dorian Gray. Dorian Slay. Dorian Gay. Dorian Yay. Dorian Decay. Dorian Okay.
What I imagine would happen if I were in a room full of these writers:
William Shakespeare: He’d stare at me but also keep to himself before eventually asking me if I have a love interest. Then he’d probably crack a lot of jokes and try to get me to laugh. But his jokes are dad jokes and I’m only laughing so he feels good about his jokes.
Emily Dickinson: We’d probably take turns reading random poems aloud. We’d try to freestyle a rhyme and keep it going until we run out of ideas.
Oscar Wilde: He’d probably be staring at all of decor and saying how bland it is. He’d be flinging himself onto every chair and couch “just to try out the cushions.” I’d probably walk up to him to ask him some questions, only for him to ask if I could grab him a champagne from the back.
Edgar Allan Poe: I feel like he’d keep to himself. Eventually I’d go up to him and ask random questions, which branches out into a long, deep conversation that ends with us both crying. Then he’d probably find my stories and poems and heavily critique them. (Yes I carry my work everywhere).
Mary Shelley: She’d probably keep to herself for a little bit but then ask me if I’ve eaten today. I dunno, she gives me mom-friend vibes. I feel like she’d want to get into a deep conversation about life and womanhood while I’m just sitting there trying to recover from the conversation I had with Edgar Allan Poe.
H. P. Lovecraft: Oh yeah we’re totally crying too. But that’d happen after I ask the cliché “What inspired you to write what you wrote?” questions and after I tell him about sci-fi movies. The crying would come from another deep conversation but it’d be more sarcastic than anything else.
For clarification this is just some random blob of ✨mess✨ that I put together because I’m bored in law class. I doubt these people would actually be like this around me lol. This is my first post on my page in a LONG time so uh- yeah have this. No tags because I’m too anxious about people seeing this lol. I might add tags later. Who knows 👁👁
