im practically twitching in frustration here. how is it that every adaptation of this scene is capable of making it clear that this was the night kiritsugu died EXCEPT the ufotable animes? just add this narration and we are golden!?

this scene (from the new hf manga chapter) is beautifully done and it just makes me frustrated that again, most people will only see the anime’s, who had two chances to animate this scene and failed to make its importance clear both times. I remember when ubw was reaching the climax of its second season and we had people still saying stuff like “i wonder if they will show us how kiritsugu died” because the show had been that ineffective in conveying this!

at this point the hf trilogy is kind of our last hope that ufotable will do this scene properly. and if they finally do it right, boy will it be something of a dark irony that only the darkest route where shirou breaks this promise to kiritsugu is also the only route where the scene acknowledges that kiritsugu died that night.

✕   Brynhildr’s violet eyes remained gazing at the spot on the wall that she had been staring at for the past hour even as Assassin addressed her, blinking slowly and reeling in to herself, closing her eyes. Her excessively long hair seemed to instinctively wrap around her as though it had a life of its own. She felt physical pain at each memory of her father, each memory of her child’s father, that ran through her head, and she couldn’t help herself but to continue this self-torture.

She turned her cheek to her arm upon which her head lay and pulled her long legs in to herself, her lissome body becoming a protective ball. It was actually a rather pitiful sight.

“I have wept for a thousand years… and I will weep a thousand more… Assassin…,” she answered him finally, her voice absolutely heart-breaking. With her eyes shut tight, she continued softly, “Are you only here to mock me… Assassin…?”

“------You’re certainly dramatic. Perhaps, if you were that that foolhardy King of Knights, I would consider it. But that’s not what I’m here for...” The bandages are unfurled from ‘round his lips and from his face and he answers curtly as if completely unaffected by her tears and grieving. The voice that leaked from his mouth was empty, like a wind blowing from a hollow cave through a crevice. There was no sorrow or sympathy to be found for her; it was obvious that there was nothing inside the Assassin. In truth, though he would never admit it, there was the slightest twinge of guilt and regret wrought of his cold words, however he could not afford to be soft on the woman...or any of the fellow Servants for that matter. Like any other battlefield it was definitely not the place for gentle coddling.

He pressed his back up against the wall, arms crossed over the armor over his chest.  The pungent stench of death, misfortune, and hopelessness that clung tightly to the assassin like the tattered cloak upon his armored body began permeating room the longer he remained there seemingly choking the air itself .

“I just came to see what was the matter with you. You can stay quiet and keep weeping if you want  it’s not my job to force you to anything you don’t want to nor comfort you. However, the other’s have really began worrying. Is it really okay to stay in this state, sobbing to yourself over things long since passed, Lancer?”

✕   It’s Father’s Day and Brynhildr is going to spend it lying on the floor crying in her quarters thinking about how every father in her life has betrayed her, replaying memories of abandonment over and over again. The typically mournful Valkyrie is especially despondent today.

Nordiixa:

“Lancer.” Ashen, lonesome eyes bereft of the slightest traces of warmth gaze coldly at the perpetually lamenting Valkyrie who lie upon the floor, and the Assassin who had the misfortune of being convinced into checking on her let out a sigh. How troublesome... “What are you doing? You’re normally pretty gloomy but don’t you think you’ve spent enough time weeping?”

“Ah, you’re back, Shirou...” Kiritsugu offers a smile to his daughter but as always it just seems so weary and weak as though belonging to a child on the verge of starvation. “Before you put dinner on, why don’t you come sit with me a little? The weather’s pretty good tonight.” He playfully pats the spot on the porch next to him urging her to sit beside her old man.
