Dont Trust Me, Pt. 4

a small groan escapes your lips as you turn over in bed and notice the ache between your legs. your eyes flutter open and you spot ricky in the corner of the room, throwing on a shirt.

you sigh contentedly as you recall the events of last night. you two had left the dance shortly after the third slow-dance song, both of you wishing your friends a fun night and saying your goodbyes. ricky had brought you to his place and it had started with a movie and ended with the both of you undressed, ricky’s arms wrapped tightly around you as you both drifted off to sleep.

he smiles at you, walking over to lean down and press his lips to your forehead.

“where’s my stuff?” you ask him, grabbing the blankets and covering yourself as you sit up.

ricky points to the chair in the corner of his room, where your dress is zipped in a dress cover.

“i also grabbed some clothes for you to wear,” ricky gestures to a small stack on the dresser next to the chair. “i figured you wouldn’t want to be in your dress all day.”

“great,” you smile.

“yeah. i’ll leave you to it. i’m going to go make breakfast. do you want anything specific?”

you shake your head, beaming at ricky. you know he’s probably kidding as he blows you a kiss before walking out of the room, but that doesn’t stop your heart from thundering.

you find your bra across the room and go to put it. you grab the dark teal sweatshirt he had laid out for you and throw it on over your bra, then shimmy into the shorts you had worn under your dress the previous night. you pick up your shoes and walk out of the room, into the kitchen where ricky is cooking omelettes.

“you look nice.” ricky says, flipping the omelette over.

“whatever.” you playfully scoff, flicking your wrist at him. “you’re only saying that because i’m wearing your shirt.”

you go to stand by him, leaning onto the counter.

“maybe so,” he chuckles. “or maybe it’s that’s morning after glow you’re emitting. or maybe you should just take a compliment.”

“ha ha,” you say.

ricky finishes up the omelettes, grabbing a couple of forks. he throws an omelette and a fork onto a plate for you and one onto a plate for himself. he leads you into the living room, where you both plop down on the couch.

he grabs the remote from the coffee table and turns on the tv.

“do you want to watch anything? i have netflix, hulu, prime.”

your eyes widen as you jump up from the couch.

“is everything okay?” ricky asks.

“what time is it?”

he checks the tv.

“10:36.”

“actually,” you stammer. “i- i totally forgot red and i were going to go to the movies. i need to go.”

you make a start for the front door, but ricky stops you.

“you can’t just run home, y/n. you live like, ten minutes away and that’s by car. let me take you home.”

“okay,” you agree. “but we got to go now.”

           ♫♪♬

ricky pulls up to the backdoor of your house. before you can open the door and run inside, he gently grabs your wrist and pulls you in for a kiss.

“see you around?”

“yeah,” you breathe. “yeah, see you around.”

you step out of the car and close the passenger door. ricky smiles and waves at you before pulling out onto the street. you smile and wave back, sure he can see you in the rearview mirror.

there is a sudden honk from the front side of your house. you mutter profanities as you rush inside and change into a pair of comfortable shoes. you grab your wallet and run out to the driveway, where big red is waiting in his cherry red jeep.

“you know i’ve been waiting here for like, ten minutes?” red laughs as he turns to look at you. the smile on his face drops as he takes in your appearance. “is that- sis, is that ricky bowen’s sweatshirt?”

you look down, cursing yourself for forgetting to take it off.

“why is your hair all disheveled?”

“i just woke up.” you mumble, attempting to fix your hair.

“i have seen you when you’ve just woken up,” red snaps. “and your hair never looks like, and your lips aren’t swollen- what the hell did you do?”

you purse your lips as you focus in on red’s tiki totem velcroed onto the dash. red’s eyebrows shoot up as his mouth drops open in shock, an audible, quite dramatic, gasp leaving his mouth.

then he frowns and reaches forward to smack your shoulder.

“ow!”

“what the fuck? you slept with ricky?!”

“i—”

“you guys have only been hanging out for a week, and you sleep with him?”

“red,” you sigh. “people have known people for forty-five minutes and have slept with them.”

“and ricky is one of those people!” red snaps. you roll your eyes, fed up with his uncalled for detestation of ricky. “you don’t even know him!”

“i can take care of myself, red, okay? god!” you cross your arms, huffing in annoyance. “let’s just go see our movie. we’re going to be late.”

Angel Eyes // Kian Lawley

image

I was in love with everything about her.

One day, it was totally platonic. She was gorgeous, she was nice, she was down to earth, she was caring. But I saw her only as a friend, and I was ok with that.

The next day, it was a complete 360. I found her heartbroken, crying on the stairwell of my apartment building. I sat next to her for a while, just hugging her. Then I picked her up and took her back to my apartment, even though I had a meeting I was an hour late to. I hugged her some more, listened to her sobs while my heart broke slowly for her.

When she had calmed down, she wiped her tears and sat across from me. I gathered the courage to ask what was wrong, and she looked up at me.

Through the glossy eyes and tears, I fell in love. She was sad, but the look in her eyes made me fall hard and fast, the ground nowhere in site. The look in her eyes made me want to be the one who got to look into those eyes every day.

Usually, when people are sad, their eyes get darker. She had blue eyes, a dash of green on the rim of her pupils. Her eyes didn’t change color, in fact they were brighter.

I called them angel eyes.

Five months later, I got to call those eyes mine. It became a natural reflex to call her my angel, and protect her from the world.

2 years later, I was finishing editing a video at my desk, while she laid on my bed. “Hey, Kiki?” I heard her ask. I spun around in my chair, finding her sprawled out across my silky white bed sheets, messy brown hair surrounding her head like a halo. “Yes, angel?” I asked, smiling slightly.

“How’d you know you were in love with me?” She sat up, looking at me. With that question, my heart skipped a beat. Thinking about the moment sent blood rushing up my cheeks, because I could never remember a feeling better than the feeling I felt that day. The pounding of my heart, the way I heated up, the butterflies in my stomach, how my eyes glazed over.

I got up from my chair, walking to the bed where I faceplanted onto my pillows. I rolled around to face her, propping my head up on my elbow. “Do you remember the day I found you crying in the stairwell? How I took you back to my apartment and held you?” I asked her, reaching a hand up to twirl a strand of her hair around my finger.

She hummed in response, scooting her body up so that she was only centimeters away from my face. I took that as a sign to keep going.

“After you finished crying, you looked up at me and… oh God. The feeling I had was so intense, the look in your eyes made me fall apart. I’d never been so sure about something then that moment when I realized I loved you. I called your eyes angel eyes.” I recalled, a smile spreading onto my face.

Her face mirrored mine, and she wrapped an arm around my waist, pulling herself closer to me. “Is that why you call me angel?” She responded. I nodded, looking down into the eyes of my angel.

“I love that. I love you,”

“I love you more, angel.”

We only seemed to fall more in love. Months passed, and I began to carry a weight in my pocket. A small, velvet box. I waited for the right moment, and one day when we were making a video recreating some of my older videos, we ended up in the stairwell of my old apartment building. I got down on one knee, and popped the question. I couldn’t stop the tears, and neither could she. I saw that look in her eyes, the Angel Eyes.

That was the high of our relationship.

Maybe I was too naive, too in love to realize that we didn’t fit well together. Actually, we fit perfectly together, and that was the problem.

We never argued, and I was too in love, too scared to lose her that I never brought up any of the things that bothered me, choosing to bottle it in instead.

It was never much of a problem, until on the day of her birthday, I came home at 7am, drunk and high out of my mind and hickeys covering my chest and neck. There she was, sitting on the couch. The sun shone through the window, illuminating her eyes. I saw all the tears, the worry, the fear in her eyes.

We fought until 10AM, when she stormed up the stairs. I collapsed on the couch, about to fall asleep when I heard her coming back down.

I stood up, seeing her carrying two bags. My heart dropped into my stomach.

“Oh god, no. Please don’t.” I pleaded, hot tears streaming down my face. She shook her head, opening the front door. I followed her out, watching her shove her bags into her car. I continued to plead, until my knees felt weak and I collapsed on the grass, sobbing.

She watched me, tears in her eyes. Then, she swung open the car door and got in, driving away. All while I broke down in the grass.

I thought about the moment I fell in love with her. Where I found her crying on the stairwell, heartbroken over a guy. I was the guy now. I’d broken her, and lost her. What happens next? Does she find someone new, someone better?

Sure enough, she did. She found someone who loved her unconditionally, who didn’t go out to party on the night before her birthday and cheat on her, who wiped her tears, and worst of all, got to stare at those Angel Eyes all day and every day.
