Summary: The Season is a time old tradition for the nobility and richest elite of both Erharan and your home country of Auteris to gather their social circles for elaborate parties and celebrations during the summer months. But for you, your role is to make sure the bubbly debutante, Miss Amelia Montison, looks her absolute best in her first Season as an eligible marriage candidate. As a lady’s maid, you shouldn’t to ask more - your life is only supposed to revolve around hers. But a chance encounter has you reevaluating your position, and you start to realize what potential your life could have if you start living for yourself.

It’s taken over a year, but yes it’s true - The Season is FINALLY finished and nearly ready to be released! Despite all the bumps in the road to get here, I am quite proud of how this one turned out. I can’t wait for you all to read it!

So I found this series after seeing it show up on my dashboard in someone else’s fic rec list, and maaaan I’m so glad I clicked on it. I started it last night and binged till I was done with all current chapters. I love fantasy stories, other realms, magic…it’s all so fascinating. I love how Jimin’s duality (that we all know and love IRL) is played with in this series because of course a Fae is going to be like that. He’s stubborn, mischievous, set on doing things he needs to, no matter what. But he’s also loyal to those he loves and trying to find a place for himself in a world that doesn’t want to. I absolutely adore Hobi in this series, and I want my own cute little flame creature to keep me company. Especially since it’s now starting to get colder outside where I live 🤣 And OC is smart, determined, and strong in her own ways - even without magic. I love how because of her grandma’s stories, she already knows how to see beyond their simple tricks.

I also like that this series plays with myth and legends, and how the stories you grow up with might not be the end all-be all truth. It starts with OC’s beloved grandma passing away, after she grew up hearing all of the stories of the heroine who defeated the evil Faerie king. But as she learns the stories were real, she has to reckon with how those actions caused very real consequences. Everyone is the hero in their own story, everyone justifies what they do when they have a certain goal. I like how her grandma saved Faerie from a mad king, but never mentioned the cost of what she did. Also, because this is also a romance story, the connection between OC and Jimin isn’t just “oh he’s pretty, take me now”. Their love feels earned, even without the connection of fate. You can see it build as time goes on, how they learn to trust each other.

I can’t wait to see how this story progresses! So much has happened already and I am so curious about what happens next.

Chapter Two → You begin to adjust at the Night Court, but after a vicious attempt on your life, Jimin takes action. Your trip to the Winter Court does not go as planned.

Chapter Three → After barely surviving a run in with the others, you flee to the Winter Court. Jimin and you must come to terms with the tension between the two of you, and you must decide the next step.

A summary of my reaction to The Astronaut

If posting fic online has taught me anything, it’s that I have no idea how the reader will react to anything. Nada. Zip. Zilch. Not the faintest clue.

Fics that I think I scribbled off just to get them out there get the kindest, most rapturous feedback. Fics I slaved over, agonized over, bled my soul into get a couple tepid replies. Fics I thought were me revealing the darkness and weird kink that lives in my brain, scared to even post it for fear of judgement, get, “Aaaw that’s so sweet!” replies. Baffling.

My conclusion? You just never know. You really just can’t know. When I did a workshop with 20 other writers I would try to guess what their critique of my story would be and I was right maybe 1 in 20 times. Only one other writer would have the same critique for my story that I had. And it wasn’t even always the same person.

The encouraging part about this is, if self recrimination, the fear that you know what people won’t like about your story, is holding you back, just say fuck it! You’re almost certainly wrong! All you can do is make it the best story you can for the energy you have. And yeah, sometimes that means scribbling it out in an evening and kicking it out to the void of the internet before you can change your mind or worry about editing it more than once because then you’ll never post it.

It’s all chaos, man. You don’t get to decide what the audience thinks. All you can do is create it and put it out there for them to decide.
