you’ve been roommates with percy jackson for two years, friends for even longer, so you should’ve found it a little weird and alarming when he traipses into the living room that morning and you think he looks like he’s bathed in all of aphrodite’s glory.

you should’ve found it a little weird, because you’ve never looked at him that way before.

the little routine the two of you have established over the years plays out as it should that morning—you wake up when sun rises, go about your quick drill of showering, brushing your teeth, and throwing on some clothes before you head to the kitchen to make breakfast. percy trails into the room a few hours after you do, half-asleep and mumbling for food, and that’s when the comforting, dull familiarity of the routine slips into completely new and unexplored territory.

you hear percy before you see him. he always wears those socks that are thick enough to make little thumping noises against the wooden floor, and the scent of his sheets cling onto him so much they reach your senses in waves. he smells heavily of lavender detergent and something citrusy. it’s how you know he’s there every morning, and how you know when to get breakfast done by.

“g’morning,” he rasps at the same time you chirp the greeting, and you smile a little at the sound of him. rough around the edges, as usual, but a little rougher this time. that means he’s slept good.

“you sleep okay?” you ask, turning around with two plates in hand. you’re not at all prepared for what you see in front of you.

your breath stops halfway down your throat and your body goes numb, all the way down to your toes. you almost drop what you’re holding.

you’ve seen percy shirtless plenty of times before. plenty—when he walks out of the shower, when he goes surfing, when it’s the middle of summer and the a/c’s broken. you’re not at all unfamiliar with the vast expanse of his tan skin over lean muscle.

yet, why do you feel so utterly breathless seeing him now? blanketed with sleep, hair ruffled from tossing and turning all night, droopy eyes, and lips teetering on the edge of a yawn. bare arms flex, subtle, as he stretches. you could see every curve of his body, every ridge over his arms and torso that you for some reason want to trace with your fingers.

he looks the same as he always does in the morning, but… hotter.

you must’ve been staring at him for an uncomfortable amount of time because he speaks up, “you okay, honey?”

he’s called you that before, honey, but now, you shiver deliciously like it’s the first time.

i just wanted to say that requests/asks are super welcome! i might not reply immediately, but i will eventually (probably once i've done the requested work)
