Riley Family c.2040
Col. Simon Riley, Charlotte Riley, Andrew Thomas Riley, Grace Jael RIley, Orion Elijah Riley
---
A glimpse of the future. 'Ghost' is no more, 'Jade' is just a deary nickname, two little lives born out of love, and one stumbled upon them and lifted up along the way.
All because they shot at each other đđ
Hope you love it!
The name of the story I'm writing will be Cobweb Heart. This story will be a crossover of Scream 6 and Marvel. In this world, the Avengers did not die; Here there is Spider-Man and Spider-Woman (our protagonist). Also, for the story, I based it on the Venom movies and the Spider-Man 2 video game. In a few days, I will publish information about the protagonist and the symbiote.

His Judgement
A/N: Been in such a Dead by Daylight fixation that I don't think it can be stopped. Pyramid Daddy can smash, I don't care - don't @ me. It was a great crime that BHVR took his ass away from us! Also, I wrote this fic while listening to 'Insanely Illegal Cage Fight' by Dal Av + Jackson Rose. For some reason it gave Pyramid Head vibes. This isn't beta read so any grammar and/or spelling mistakes are my own.
Fandom:Â Dead by Daylight
Pairings:Â Pyramid Head x Female Reader
Fic Warnings: Character death, blood, violence, betrayal, slight angst, blade / knife, death, dub-con touching, dub-con, smaller female / taller man, size difference, hair-pulling (brief), dark smut, injuries, mating press, long tongue action / tongue fucking (brief) / tongue deepthroating, claiming, breeding, squirting (brief), creampie, (đMDNI this fic is for ADULTS! Begone minorsđ)
Summary:Â When things go from bad to worse during a trial against the Executioner, Reader finds herself standing face-to-face with the large killer himself, ready to accept whatever judgement he deems fit to bestow upon her. However the situation doesn't seem to go as she suspected.

You grabbed onto the hips of Feng and dragged her off the hook, her groans of pain audiable but she tried to quieten them as you herded her behind a large rock to mend her wound. Blood oozed from the gaping hole in her right shoulder but you worked quickly to bandage the injure to slow, and hopefully, stop the blood. Feng nodded to you in thanks before you guided her toward the generator that you were working on before going to her aid.
The realm the entity chose for this trial just so happened to be the Midwich Elementary School, the home of one of the most terrifying killers in the entity's realm. It didn't help that the entity wanted to rub salt in the wound and have the killer actually be the Executioner, he was known to be ruthless during trials, showing no mercy, and defying the entity's rules by outright slaughtering people in these sick, twisted matches. Feng was able to run the large man but he managed to outplay her, ensnaring her within his trail of barbed wire - also known as his 'Trail of Torment'. You had taken shelter in a locker nearby when the Executioner placed her on the hook.
Rushing footsteps startled you and Feng, the sudden appearance of Yun-Jin Lee panting and breathing heavily should have been the first sign to let you know of the oncoming danger yet you and Feng continued working on the generator, now with the help of an anxious Yun-Jin Lee. Everything was quiet for a moment, the only sounds were the generator pistons powering up when you noticed Yun-Jin Lee glancing behind Feng for a few seconds before pushing Feng and running off in the posite direction. You stared after the suspicious woman in confusion and agitation when the sound of Feng's scream caught your attention. The looming figure of the hulking Executioner had pierced his heavy weapon into Feng's torso, the tip of the knife sunk deep in her stomach while her arms scrambled for purchase, rapid gasps left her lips and her eyes were wide in absolute fear.
Time seemed to operate in slow motion, your brain now just processing that Yun-Jin Lee sacraficed Feng to the killer to save herself and fled, leaving you to fend for yourself once he was done punishing Feng. Your heart lurched in sorrow and disappointment, more so disappointed in yourself for not having seen the large killer coming toward them, maybe you could've saved the poor woman - if only Yun-Jin Lee hadn't just selfishly pushed Feng toward her death.
Feng turned her head toward you as her arms weakened in strength, her eyes pleading for something that was not an option, something you couldn't give her. The Executioner yanked his knife from her body before driving it back in, a dark puddle of blood and barbed wires appeared around Feng and devoured her into the ground, taking her and leaving no evidence that she was ever there. Your heart skipped a beat, seeing someone you viewed as a close friend, due to being in many trials together and forming a bond, hurt you deep down and caused tears to slightly blur your vision. The scraping of metal on metal brought you back to the present and you're terrified eyes stared at the large killer a few feet from you, his triangular helmet looking in your direction - his helmet tilting slightly to the side as he seemed to glare you down.
In a sudden rush of adrenaline your body shot into action, you quickly spun around on your heels and sprinted in the last place you saw Yun-Jin Lee and prayed for the best. Your legs carrying you down a flight of stairs and turning down a long corridor, your lungs struggling to intake oxygen and vision slightly unfocusing from how hard you were pushing your body to work in running away from danger. By the time you had reached the end of the corridor you pressed your back against the steel wall and attempted to collect yourself. You didn't hear any heavy footsteps coming after you, and a timid glance down the direction you had just come from proved that the Executioner wasn't pursuing you. You seemed to be in the clear.
A breath of relief escaped your lips before a faint whistle caught your attention, your head turned to the right to see David waving you over into a classroom he was holed up in. You rushed over to him, glad to see a friendly, familiar face, and agreed to help him on his generator. You were tempted to tell David about what Yun-Jin Lee did to Feng, how she willingly sacraficed a teammate - a friend, to the killer and left you for dead just to save her own skin, but you thought against it. Your main concern and goal was to repair the generators so you could get the hell out. The elementary school chilled you to the bone, the disarray of everything in the school and classrooms - they they all left in a rush, almost as if they were quickly evacuated unerved you to no end. So your main motivation on completing your generator tasks were because some of the realms absolutely creeped you out. As the third piston started to pick up speed the woman that had caused you grief appeared in the doorway, making her way arogantly to the other side of the generator, acting as if she hadn't just betrayed a teammate.
An occasional spark would fly as the three of you worked on the gen, the progress slow but surely going, David giving quick glances at the only doorway in and out of the classroom. Your nerves were on alert for any sign of the Executioner, waiting for his sudden arrival and hoping to be able to distract the killer long enough for David to get out of dodge. Any creak or groan from the steel structure had your head turning behind you and toward the door in search for the large man but was greeted with nothing which only calmed your racing heart slightly. Your eyes took note of the vault window on the other side of the classroom which led into the other, a good escape route in case the killer were to appear and block the doorway. David must have seen you looking at it and gave you a subtle nod, acknowledging your find and piecing together two wires which completed the generator, the engine running smoothly now and the three of you made a slow approach to the window vault in the classroom. You were first in the line, then David, leaving Yun-Jin Lee to carry the back but as you neared the vault the loud, piercing sound of metal scraping across metal brought their attention to the classroom doorway.
The bloodied image of the Executioner almost seemed to freeze the trio, his shadow loomed and seemed to swallow the entire room before he then took thundering steps toward you. Yun-Jin Lee rushed passed you and David, shoving the both of you toward the killer while she vaulted the crumbled opening. David lost his footing and was tumbling right into the path of the Executioner when you quickly reacted, grabbing onto David's wide forearm and pulling him back, adrenaline giving you the strength to drag David over to the vault as the killer closed the distance between you.
"Go, David! Run!" You shouted before turning around to face the large man.
His knife was embedded in the ground leaving a trail of torment, cutting off one of the paths to getting out of the classroom. You didn't want to lead the killer in the direction of David so you chose to try and run around the Executioner's left side - the one unaffected by his torment. Just when he was within arms reach you bolted to his left and rushed passed, jumping over a small section of the unforgiving trail and making a mad dash down the hallway, the killer's heavy footsteps storming after you.
He was a man on a mission, only having eyes for you, and you were hoping he would lose track of you soon because your stamina was rapidly draining, but he seemed to always know where you were going. You've run through the bottom floor before attempting to lose chase upstairs, quickly turning corners before dipping into a random classroom and ducked behind an overturned table while you took the time to catch your breath. David slowly exited one of the many lockers that were lined against the wall and rushed over to you, a relieved expression painted on his face.
"Thank God you're okay! You're not hurt, right?" He then looked over your figure for any injuries.
"I'm fine, lets just focus on getting that last gen done." You got up and started to dust yourself off before looking David in the eyes with concern yet certainty after your second run-in with the untrustworthy woman, "Don't trust Yun-Jin Lee... She's the reason Feng is dead..."
"...Shit."
David looked shocked and opened his mouth to say something but the approaching march of the Executioner caused you two to run back over to the lockers and hide next to each other, hoping the beast of a man would just keep walking but those hopes were dashed away when his large figure stepped into the room. His helmet slowly scanned across the room in search for you, his eyeless gaze fell upon the lockers that you and David were hiding in, your breath hitched in anticipation. His steady stride carried him across the spacious room, your muscles growing more tense the closer he got to your lockers, when you noticed a little too late that the Executioner was looking at a different locker - the wrong locker.
The Executioner's thick arm shot out from beside his lent body and grasped the locker door and ripped it off its hinges, David's surprised shout ringing throughout the room as the larger man pulled him out of the locker, and placing him onto his wide shoulder. You bursted out of your locker and clung onto the killer's arm that seemed to put him off balance and dropping David. You grabbed David's hand and began to run away, a very angry killer hot on your heels. One of the hallways had a pallet in the middle that you knew you could use to block the Executioner and gain some distance so you made sure to head toward it, your feet carrying you faster while David kept pace and followed your every move. When the pallet was in sight a few feet away a smile started to grace your face for the first time that trial, but that all came crashing down when you noticed Yun-Jin Lee standing on the other side of the pallet, staring you dead in the face before tossing the pallet down and bolting around the corridor. Your feet stuttered for a split second before you decided that one of you were gonna have to vault the pallet first. You looked over your shoulder to see that the Executioner was a lot closer than you thought and was reeling his arm back to strike at David and your brain went into a panic.
"David, watch out!" You screamed as you pushed him ahead of you, the edge of the knife sliced into the outside of your bicep.
The flaming sting of the injury caused you to let out a squeal as you held onto your arm and made a run for the pallet, David waving encouragingly to you on the other side. Your staggered gait didn't get you far when a strong hand gripped a decent amount of your hair and pulled you back, dragging you into a warm, soild body, ripping another screamed from your lips. You heard David shout your name from where he stood before rushing back over the pallet to get to you.
"No! Let her go!" David readied up to throw a punch but the Executioner just thrust his knife upward.
The blade kissed David's skin, cutting through his button-up and exposed his chest which now displayed a deep, flowing wound from where the blade cut him. David winced and clutched his chest, a groan left his mouth as he looked back toward you. You were terrified, uncertain if anyone was going to survive, and it didn't help that the merciless killer had you in his hold and was readying up to strike David again - this time a killing blow. In a desperate attempt to save at least one of your friends this trial you decided to try begging and bargining. Right as the Executioner drew his arm back to deliever a deadily strike you clung onto the arm holding your body to his and began pleading.
"Wait, no, please!" You cried while squeezing your eyes shut, "I-I'll do anything, please... You can k-kill me right now if you want but spare him!"
You were rambling but you were hoping that the killer would at least pause long enough for David to make an escape. The Executioner slowly glared down at you through his large helmet, his head tilted in feigned thought before suddening swinging his arm overhead and implanted his knife into David's neck, blood spurted out everywhere, and his eyes bulged out while his gasps were wet and thick. Whimpers and whines left you as you watched the light fade from his eyes, his body steadily sinking to the floor before it slumped down and hit the floor with a thud. Before you could process anything you were then thrown against one of the steel walls and lifted a few feet of the ground by your throat, a large hand encased it and made it a struggle for you to take deep breaths. He stared you down while he watched you struggle to get out of his grip, his suffocating presence suddenly making you have flashes of some of the children drawings scattered around the school - some of the drawings depicted said killer in front of her, a name scribbled on top that made sense for a child; Pyramid Head. 'Seemed fitting for him', you thought brieftly.
Pyramid Head jabbed the knife into the floor next to you both before using his other hand to grope your body, using it to spread your leg to insert his hip between them and opening your legs wider. The position caused you to have to wrap your legs around his waist to try and lessen the pressure on your neck but he just placed his hand on your ass and held tight, hitching you up higher and pressed you between the wall and his solid body. A deep rumble spread from within his chest and a slick, slimy appendage timidly appeared from under the pulsing puss under the helmet before it confidently started to lick your face, covering your face in thick saliva. The tip slid across your lips a few times before forcing its way passed them, exploring your mouth and worming itself down your throat.
You let out a squeal in rejection but that didn't seem to do anything to the Executioner as he continued to thrust his tongue down your neck, sliding it back and forth, as if it got pleasure from it. His hips humped into your crotch which shot small waves of pleasure up your spine, strained moans escaped your lips while you tried to find where to place your hand before settling with clutching onto the arm that's holding you by the neck. He let go of your ass to ruck up his filthy apron to expose his pulsing cock, the tip red and leaking with pre-cum. You choked on his tongue in horror, trying to angle your hips away from him but he took that as some sort of invitation to shred your pants from your legs, your underwear disappearing with it while he rubbed his thumb against your folds in an attempt to get you wet and wanting. He retracted his tongue from your throat to then go down to your pussy, smearing his saliva over your vulva and clit, teasing your hole by probing it in exploration before plunging in deep.
You yipped from the wet intrusion of his tongue, you could feel it wriggling around inside - pushing against your spongy walls until it found your g-spot, your body eliciting a full-body spasm. Your mouth opened and closed from the onslaught of pleasure his tongue was giving you once he discovered your hidden spot deep within you, not even your toys could find it half the time and yet this large, brutal killer found it within seconds. It left you stunned more than anything else, your brain going fuzzy and all logical thought disappeared. His thumb pressed into your clit again which made you clench your pussy around his tongue, a moan left your throat at the pleasure flowing through your in waves, your body warming up from the growing arousal.
Your head flopped to the side as you let out a sigh, your eyes fluttered opened and your vision was then filled with David's cold corpse lying on the floor, his glazed eyes staring in your direction and your stomach squeezed - threatening to make you throw up any sustenence inside. You shut your eyes tightly before righting your head straight, a cool chill creeped up your spine at the mental image of your dead friend only a few inches away. Once you opened your eyes again you stared up at the helmet, hoping you were looking where his eyes may roughly be.
"Pyramind Head, please-" You managed to rasp out, "- I-I wanted you to spare him... why?"
Tears fell from your eyes and down your cheeks as you continued to look at him but you got no response, the only response you got was a deep, rumbling growl and his tongue thrusting in and out of you faster, his thumb rubbing circles on your clit rapidly as well. Your breath hitched and a loud, prolonged whine echoed around you both, your walls spasming before hot, white ecstasy burst through you - the tight knot that had quickly formed in your lower stomach suddenly snapped that caused you to drench Pyramid Head's lower sternum and tongue. A foamy, white ring surrounded the base of his appendage and smeared itself across it with each thrust, it drove him feral and the pulse in his cock couldn't be ignored anymore.
Pyramid Head thrusted his cock against your wet cunt, soaking his dick in your juices before attempting to align the tip with your twitching hole and as he steadily pushed in it stretched you in an impossibly delicious way. The moan you let out rang down the corridor but your attention wasn't on how loud you were being, your thoughts were on how big the Executioner was and how he may have ruined any other man for you and he wasn't even halfway in yet. He thrusted in a few more inches before the base of his cock was snug against your pelvis, his hips grinded on your swollen clit, your cunt clung to him from the stimulation. After giving you a brief moment to get adjusted to his cock he began to back his shaft from you before driving it back in with a deep, powerful thrust, punching noises and air from you. Each strong thrust loosened your legs from his waist and he decided to wrap his thick arms under them, he brought them up so that your ankles rested on his shoulders and the angle made it feel as though he was fucking into you deeper than before. Your nails dug into his biceps as he drilled into you, the wet sound of skin slapping skin and your meek moans were the only sounds that could be heard, his tongue hovered over your clit as a large glob of spit splattered onto it - his hips smeared and grinded it into your clit and your toes curled.
A silent scream left your lips as your pussy splashed the Executioner in your juices, your back arched sharply as the walls of your cunt throbbed intensely as it milked his cock. A rumbling groan vibrated inside his chest and his hips stuttered for a few thrusts before burying it deep within you, the tip of his cock kissing your cervix and thick, heavy ropes of cum coated your walls. His cock pulsed with each shot of cum and he gave a few small thrusts to fuck some of it into your cervix, laying claim over you by hoping to breed your fertile womb.
You let out a drawn out whine as you felt his cock slowly withdraw from your abused pussy, your gaping hole twitched as it tried to suck in the cum that slowly dripped out of it. Pyramid Head carefully set you onto the ground as he readjusted his apron, his hand grasped his weapon's handle before yanking his knife out of the floor. You lazily stared at the looming figure accepting your fate, knowing it was only going to last for so long before he killed you in painful ways only he can imagine. Your eyes closed as you waited for the final blow, hoping that he would be nice for once and show mercy with giving you a swift death yet none of that happened. You opened an eye to see what he was up to prior to opening your other eye to glance up at his still form.
A horrified gasp came from your left and you turned your head to see Yun-Jin Lee peeking around the corner, her hands covered her wide mouth and her eyes were almost popping out of her head, a disgusted and petrified looked was etched onto her features. Her eyes bore into your tired figure on the ground, too drained to even properly cover your exposed bottom when, faster than you had ever seen him move, Pyramid Head clutched a fist into the other woman's hair and threw her across the air, her body colided with the hard with a hard smack. Yun-Jin Lee yelped in distress and attempted to crawl away from him but he drove his knife into her calf, the blade sliced and shredded through her muscle and bone, and she let out a piercing scream that had you flinching away.
Yun-Jin Lee stared up at the Executioner with pleading eyes but they wouldn't reach him for he has already decided her fate. Lifting his blade high in the air he brought it down with fierce strength, swinging his weapon multiple times and created many deep, slash wounds - each one becoming more violent than the last. Pyramid Head slammed his blade across the forearm of Yun-Jin Lee, her right arm became detattched and slumped to the floor, while his foot crushed her mid-spine between him and the ground. Yun-Jin Lee was getting desperate and frantically thrashed around hoping to wiggle her way from under the intense judgement of the Executioner yet it was useless, he only put more of his heavy weight onto her spine and a cry of pain was torn from her. With two hands he raised his knife and, with the swiftest movement you've ever seen, he drove the blade into her back - a loud crack pierced through the air and a wet squelching could be heard when the knife sliced through Yun-Jin Lee.
The last of her breath escaped her dry lips before her body fell limp, her still figure stayed face down as Pyramid Head removes his weapon, from the now dead corpse, and turned his helmet toward you once again. A small feeling of dread shot through you for a split second but your brain was still foggy from the rough fucking he had given you just moments ago, and your limbs felt like they were made of lead - anytime you tried to move your arms or legs you were met with no response from your muscles. You watched as the Executioner walked over to your slumped body, examining your for a minute or two before he leant forward and wrapped an arm around you, lifting you from the ground and over his broad shoulder.
Pyramid Head started a steady gait toward one end of the corridor, his destination unknown, yet you weren't afraid of being hooked and being sacrificed to the Entity. He walked passed many hooks on his journey, your mind growing more and more confused while you watched one of the hooks fade around a corner as Pyramid Head continued on, his steps only speeding up once the howling, whimsical noise of the hatch could be heard. Pyramid Head turned quickly into a classroom, the hatch a few feet away from you both when he gently set you on your feet, his hand clutching onto your hips to steading you - and to grope you one last time. You warily glanced between the hatch and the Executioner, as if waiting for him to then crush your hopes of escape by beating you to the hatch and closing it, but he just stood there.
The Executioner subtly nodded over to the hatch, giving you a slight nudge toward it and you timidly made you way over to it. You looked back at Pyramid Head one last time and muttered a hushed thank you before disappearing into the hatch, the opening then slammed close and a black, smokey abyss surrounded the Executioner, teleporting him back into the killers realm. Somewhere in the back of his mind a faint voice promised him that within due time you'd be his, that you would become his pet and that was going to be his reward for being such a loyal being.

New York had been your home for a long time. All your life, actually. But sometimes, the rowdy, noisy city was suffocating.
However, swinging through the city, air resisting against your skin as you picked up speedâlifted the weight off your shoulders.
You changed in a secluded alley on the outskirts of the busyness in the big apple, not risking any neighbours seeing you go into the window of your apartment. The subway was crowded as it is all hours of the day, though you didnât mind too much.
Closing the door behind you, you dropped your bag on the couch and looked for your roommate. âQuinn?â Your voice travelled throughout the place, bringing your roommate to her feet and outside her room.
âHey, dâyou just get back?â She smiled, leaning against the end of the hallway. âHow was patrol?â
You sighed, opening the zipper of your backpack to pull out the bagel you got for her. âYeah, it was alright. Nothing exciting.â you threw it to her, and she almost dropped it. âGot you a bagel. Thanks for covering for me.â
She scoffed in mock offence, âWhat did I say about throwing things? I donât have your spider sensor, or whatever. But this is appreciated.â She took a bite, and you laughed at her remark about the spider-sense.
âNoted, sorry again.â You returned her grin. You knew she loved being in on the secret. She took joy in knowing the real identity of the masked vigilante, often covering for you around your friends when you had to leave very suddenly during movie nights and hangouts. But above all, she was a concerned friend. Always. Patched you up when you came home late at night, warned you when you were about to make a bad decision, told you to be careful before you left.
You often told yourself not to get too close. Making connections as a vigilante wasnât ideal. Anybody who knew your identity was in danger at all times, and it didnât help that you had a huge crush on her brother. You never uttered a word to her, but you could sense her observing you when you hung out with the friend groupânot in a spidey-sense way, though, you could just feel it, even without the supernatural sense.
âAnything interesting happen while I was gone?â You asked, flopping down on the couch and turning on the tv, avoiding the news channels.
âEthan missed you. It was kinda gross, actually. Wouldnât stop asking where you were.â She grabbed a drink from the kitchen, disappearing from view.
You furrowed your brows, âYou know I never believe you whenever you say anything about Ethan, right? Especially concerning me.â
âNot my problem, spidey. I never lie.â
âI could give you ten examples,â you chuckled.
âI never lie to you. Obviously I lie to everybody else.â She came back from the kitchen with a look.
âIs it because Iâm special?â
âObviously.â
You werenât the nervous type. Maybe it was after you were bitten by the spider, you never really knew, but one of the main reasons Ethan may not have realized you have any semblance of feelings for him was because you acted normal around him like you did everybody else. Your schedules were different, so you rarely hung out with him for school reasons, meaning the only times he spent time with you was during group hangouts.
Including now. At his and Chadâs tiny off campus apartment.
He watched you play chess with Anika, Chad watching from the sidelines during a blitz game. Speed chess. He knew how to play chess. Maybe he should play with you, a thought grazed his mind.
As if his sister could read him, she appeared beside him and nudged him closer to the scene. âYou should play.â
He looked at her with shock, âNo, Iâll lose. I donât wanna embarrass myself.â
She narrowed her eyes. âSince when has that stopped you? You never back down from a chess match, remember?â He did remember, years ago when his father taught him after Richie left for college. âItâs because you like her, isnât it?â
He huffed. To try and prove her wrong, he went over to the coffee table and watched as you lost to Anikaâmaybe he has a chance.
It was his turn, now. He replaced Anika on the seat facing you, rearranging the chess pieces. âPretty boy wants to play!â Chad exclaimed.
âChad.â Ethan said in an almost warning tone. âWhat did I say about the nickname?â
You reset the chess clock. He looked at youâyou were smirkingâwhich was a mistake, because he didnât realize you started his clock.
âShit,â he moved a piece, fumbling. You grinned at him, and he realized heâll do anything to see it again.
You didnât lose your confidence, moving chess pieces to counteract his own moves.
During the middle game was when it dawned on him he was fucked.
It became clear to him you likely knew how to psych him outâjust by smiling at him.
Little did he know, you smiled at him because his thinking face was adorable. But on his side, you were smiling every time he glanced at you. He had no other choice but to believe you were doing it to make him blunder, because he couldnât make you usually smile like that, could he?
Quinn watched her brother fumble around you. Her plan worked. At least for tonight.
You ended up winning the game with ten seconds left on your clock and three on his.
You high-fived Chad, much to Ethanâs dismay, but you offered a handshake to his direction which he gladly accepted to feel your warm palm in his. Worth it.
He was mustering up to ask for a rematch when your phone buzzed on the counter, which Quinn reached to get before anyone could in case it was something spider related. And thank god she did, because it was. She gave you a nod, reading the notification about something happening downtown. You cringed internally, knowing the burden of covering for you would fall on your friendâs shoulders again. She packed your things and handed you the backpack, whispering âbe safeâ as you take it from her, so nobody else would hear.
With a closing of the door behind you, a conversation in the room began, thanks to a suspecting Mindy.
âWhy does she leave sometimes?â The woman looked to the strawberry blonde for an answer, suspecting that she knew more than she let on. âShe never tells us.â They all settled on the couch as Chad flicked through streaming services for a movie and Ethan cleaned up the chessboard. He didnât wanna seem to interested, but he was definitely actively listening for Quinnâs answer.
âHer aunt calls her sometimes to run some errands,â Quinn prayed they wouldnât pry. She saw this coming because youâd been dealing with more calls recently and patrolling more often. There really was no other excuse for the spontaneous leaving. It was easier to cover if you were already not thereâyouâd be studying, grocery shopping, napping, or literally anything else.
âAunt May?â Ethan piped up. You mentioned her once, saying you needed to get eggs for her.
âYeah, Aunt May.â
âShe never talks about her family.â Said Anika.
Quinn didnât want to say anything else. âSheâs just private, I think.â
âYou know more about her than us, though.â
âBecause Iâm her roommate.â
Mindyâs eyes squint toward her. Tilting her head, she pursed her lips. âI think youâre lying.â
âWhy would I be?â
âSheâs left before, at like, one AM. Why would her aunt call her at that time?â
Quinn shrugged, feeling a little bit of panic setting in. âWho knows?â
âIs she hiding something?â
âNo.â The word was so quick and curt, and that was when she knew she fucked up.
âYouâre definitely lying.â
Everyone else, watching the interaction turning from teasing to tense, Sam stepped in. âGuys,â she interrupted. âIf Y/N wants to tell us something, she would. Iâm sure she has her reasons.â
Mindy had been suspicious for a long time. Not out of malice, she liked to think she had a naturally curious personality. Sheâd kept an eye on you every time you left, half because she wanted to know, but also because she was worried. Had you not been friends for long enough that you couldnât tell them why you left or was sometimes missing?
Ethan thought similar.
It got weirder when he saw a glimpse of your name on Quinnâs phone, a call from you that she answered. She went to the kitchen to answer it. Mindy saw it too.
Ethan wasnât proud of it, but he followed, to stay right behind the threshold of the kitchen and the cold tiled floor, listening to the conversation.
The audio from your end was inaudible, but Quinnâs responses were: âYeah?â ⌠âHow bad is it?â ⌠âNo, Iâll be there.â ⌠âWho cares if they get suspicious? Youâre more important.â
He heard the call end and rushed back to his seat, to Quinnâs obliviousness. She grabbed her things.
âIâm tired, guys.â She announced to the group, Tara pausing the movie. âIâm gonna go home.â
âOh,â Sam replied. âWell, be careful. Do you have your pepper spray?â
âYes, Sam.â Quinn almost rolled her eyes at Samâs protectiveness, but she knew it was out of real worry.
After his sister left, Ethan began the conversation this time. âI think Mindyâs right.â
Everyone turned to him.
âQuinn was talking to Y/N.â
Tara sat up. âYou followed her to eavesdrop?â
Ethan shrugged, feeling scolded.
âNot cool, dude.â
âWhat did she say?â Sam asked curiously, now hooked. If Ethan mentioned it, it must have been important.
âLikeâŚâ A pause, âQ asked âhow bad is it?â then said sheâll be there. And then, like, who cares if they get suspicious.â
âTheyâre definitely hiding something,â Mindy stated. âBut why?â
âMy sister never hides anything from me. She always overshares, and I always hated it. But now sheâs not. Itâs probably notâŚgood.â
âAre we sure we should talk about this?â Anika piped up next to Mindy. âMaybe itâs a problem with their apartmentâa leak, or something.â
âButâŚâ Chad spoke, âwhat about the suspicious part? And why would Quinn lie?â
At the same time, at your and Quinnâs apartment, you bled out on a towel placed on the couch from a gash across your stomach. You winced as your friend applied the bandage.
âDidnât I tell you to be safe? What happened? You had a good streak going there for a while.â
âQuinn, please.â
âAlso, not to alarm you, but theyâre getting really suspicious. Mindy asked why you leave all the time.â
âShit, sheâs never asked that.â Your head fell against the end of the couch in defeat. âMaybe I should start distancing myself.â
Quinnâs head snapped up. âYouâre not serious.â
âDead serious.â
âDonât make me say it.â
âSay what?â You looked at her.
âItâs a really bad idea.â
âIâm trying to keep people safe. Keep you safe. Keep everyone else in the group safe.â
âWhat about Ethan?â
âIncluding him.â
âNoââ She scoffs, âI mean, youâdâŚbreak his heart.â
You had to stop yourself from laughing. âQuinn,â
âIâm serious.â And she actually was. She might have thought her brother was a nerdy asshole. But he was her brother. âAnd everyone would wonder where you are. You canât avoid them forever.â
Sitting atop a random apartment building Monday morning, your sight helped you catch a glimpse of Ethan walking amongst a crowd of New Yorkers, bumping into people with a hand on the backpack strap on his shoulder. It had been a week since you talked to Quinn about possibly leaving the group.
After that, you stopped answering messages from them, much to her dismay. She still saw you at the apartment, looking at you with silent eyes hoping youâd realize your mistake and come around again. She knew you would.
Having everybodyâs schedules memorized helped you avoid themâbut Anika having the same major as you was your downfall. You skipped a class yesterday, and she texted the groupchat asking where you were.
Maybe it was creepy, but keeping an eye on your friends calmed you down. You wanted to be the one to make sure they were safe without having them try to do the same thingâthis was why you never wanted to get close.
Unbeknownst to you, the group had a bet going.
Mindy thought you and Quinn were dating. Ethan thought something was up in your family life, maybe Aunt May was sick. Chad thought you were in a secret fight club (secretly worried). Anika was on board with Mindyâs theory. Sam refused to answer, and Tara was also silent.
Quinn came to your room that night. âEverybodyâs worried about you.â
You looked at her with begging eyes. âI know, Quinn.â You sighed in defeat. âI donât know what to do anymore.â
âEither you tell them or not. Your choice. But you canât avoid it forever. Everyoneâs been giving you space, but theyâre still thinking youâll come around.â
You stared at her, them looked away, at anything else.
âOne more thingââ she said before she left, âdonât patrol tonight.â
âWhy not?â
âIâm gonna be over at Isaacâs place. If you get hurt, I wonât be there. He thinks Iâm cheating on him whenever I bail.â
You would never ask her to give up a part of her life for you, she knew you would agree. But she also knew you would never miss patrol.
âFine, I wonât.â
She left knowing you would.
You should have listened. God, you should have listened.
Your wound from a few days ago had already healed thanks to your abilities, but another power you had was how many times you got injured in a short amount of time. Especially in the same spot. This time it was a real stab wound on your side, not just a gash a centimetre deep.
You couldnât let yourself bleed out on the alley to be found dead and your friends to find out your identity through a news announcement that Spider-Woman was dead. You were about to swing back to your apartmentâ
Shit.
You didnât have your civilian clothes. The window on the fire escape was locked. Your door was locked. Nobody was home. Idiot!
One choice. You forced your feelings down, hoping this was for the best.
Ethan and Chadâs were the closest.
With your heart pounding in your ears, holding it together and covering your wound, you knocked on the glass.
Chad came out of the hallway to furious sounding knocking on the window, thinking maybe a madman managed to climb up the fire escape and was trying to break in.
He certainly wasnât expecting the masked vigilante of New York City to be the one on the other side of the glass. And she looked to be bleeding.
You were thankful it was Chad who answered and not Ethan. He coincidentally had Econ tonight, so that was actually a plus.
Chad opened the window. âHoly shit!â
âLookââ You were breathing rapidly, unable to keep it together. âIâm sorry about thisââ You tried to change your voice hoping your friend wouldnât recognize it.
âIâm gonna carry you now, okay?â He put an arm behind your back and another under your knees, trying to avoid touching the wound. âWhat the fuck?â You heard him whisper as he set you down on the couch.
He rushed to the bathroom for the med kit. âYouâre lucky I have this,â He set it down on the floor, rummaging through it. âI play college football, I mainly have it for sprains. I never used the suture kit, but hey, first time for everything, right?â He rambled. Just as Chad does when he was nervous, also evident in the tremble of his voice.
âI heal pretty quickly, I just need stitches to stop it from bleeding.â
âThank God. I donât know how to operate on organs. What if you have internal bleeding?â
âWonât matter. Iâll heal. Iâd never let you touch my organs.â You joked.
âGlad to know Spider-Womanâs funny.â
You were careful not to call him by name on instinct. âWhat should I call you?â
âYour saviour.â He got the tools ready, âKidding. Iâm Chad.â
ââKay, Chad. Need me to walk you through it?â
âYesâyes, that would be good, actually. You have medical experience?â
âIf you call getting injured experience, yes.â
âThis is gonna be a long night.â
Tara did not believe her boyfriend.
She was at his apartment, sitting on his bed, and he was pacing and rambling about Spider-Woman coming to this very place last night and asked the vigilante to save her. She stared at him crazy.
âBabe, you have to believe me!â He jumped up excitedly, he couldnât keep it in.
âYou didnât get any proof?â
âShe was bleeding! I stitched her up! Not really a great time to ask for an autograph or a picture.â
She smiled at him endearingly. âI wanna believe you, so, so bad.â
He came closer to her, âPlease do.â
âShe just happened to come here when Ethan was away?â
âYes.â
She laughed, falling back on the bed.
âPlease, babe!â
With good timing, a knock on the door took them away from the moment.
Tara went to get it, Chad on her tail.
And surprise.
It was Spider-Woman at the door.
You never intended on showing up, but the guilt consumed you and your feet brought you to a bakery and youâd purchased a dozen cupcakes before you knew it. You wanted to leave them at his door, but not trusting his neighbours, you decided to hand them over.
He wasnât alone. You should have expected Tara. It was afternoon, and Ethan had a class early morning (why he picked it that early, youâll never get.)
Taraâs eyes widened at the sight, immediately turning back to her boyfriend stopping him in his tracks. âIs this a prank?â She pointed a finger up at him.
Him not knowing whoâs at the door, âWhat? Whoâs at the door?â He walked past her and was equally shocked.
You lowered your voice again. âUh,â you cleared your throat, âthanks for saving me last night.â You handed over the box of cupcakes.
âAre you joking?â Tara went to lift your mask, but you backed away. âWho are you?â
âNot a prank, promise!â You exclaimed. âThis isâŚactuallyâŚme. Just wanted to say thanks. If not for him, I would have bled out.â
âProve it.â
âProve what?â
âYouâre her.â
At that, you shot a web to the ceiling.
âShit,â
âI wasnât lying, babe.â You heard Chad whisper to her. And directed at you, âGlad I could help, spider. Come back anytime!â Tara playfully slapped him on the shoulder as you walked away.
âIâll keep that in mind!â
You still hadnât told Quinn about what happened last night. That was because you hadnât seen her anywhere. She must have slept in at her boyfriend(?)âs place.
As you got home, your phone buzzed.

Chad had never been happier to see you. âYouâre here! And youâre early!â He opened his arms for a hug, which you took. âI missed you!â Youâd always been a little sister to him, despite being a few months apart, it mattered to him.
âSorry Iâve been MIA,â You sighed, pulling away. âJustâdealing with stuff,â you cleared your throat.
Just then, Tara appeared and ran into your arms. You squeezed her tight, knowing she gave the best kinds of hugs. Her arms wrapped around your neck, head resting against your shoulder, fitting like a puzzle piece. âTalk to us anytime, okay?â
You nodded, ending the hug and closing the door behind you.
âWhatâs this about Spider-Woman?â You inquired, grabbing a drink from the fridge.
âI have to wait until everyone gets here, you guys are gonna freak! And Tara is here to back me up.â
âIs that all Iâm here for?â Tara teased.
âNo, honey, you know itâs also because weâre using your Netflix login.â
You laughed at their antics as she flicked him on the forehead lightly.
Ethan happened to catch you right at that moment as he came out of the bathroom.
He was silent, but shot you a smile nonetheless, which you mirrored. He really did not know what to say. A feeling bubbled up inside him and he knew he wanted to talk to you alone.
You took your place at the very end of the couch, checking something on your phone as you waited for the others to get here. Unbeknownst to you, though, Ethan was looking at you trying to decide whether it was the right time to talk. Chad and Tara were whispering to themselves, betting on if he would actually say anything.
After a few seconds, your senses told you somebody was staring. Not in a dangerous way, or even remotely alarming, but you could still feel it. So you turned your head upward and saw the curly haired boy a standing awkwardly a few feet from you.
âWhatâre you doing?â You smirked, though not really in a smug way. It was more amusement than anything.
âUhânothing, I justââ He wandered closer, sitting a few centimetres away from you. âIâwe, the group, want you to know that weâre always here if you need anything. You can talk to us, alright? You donâtâjust donât deal with it alone.â He shrugged, âThatâs it.â
Your face softened at his confession. Only if you could tell them without compromising their safety. âThanks. IâllâŚkeep you posted.â
Ethan didnât know what to do now that the conversation was seemingly over.
He was about to stand up until the door swung open, Quinn coming in along with Mindy and Anika who were carrying a few boxes of pizza.
âWeâre here! And we brought food!â Mindyâs voice echoed throughout the apartment.
You were going to greet them but Anika beat you to it, seeing you on the couch and running over to hug you.
Mindy did the same, relieved to see you okay.
Quinn had a knowing smile on her face.
After the room settled down, Chad began to finally tell the story.
Needless to say, nobody believed him.
By the end of the night, long past midnight, you were getting ready to leave when Ethan asked you something.
âAre you going with Quinn?â
Mindy and Anika were waiting at the door, they both got a ride from your roommate since Mindyâs car broke down a few days ago.
âNo, uhmâI think Iâm gonna walk home. Itâs only a few blocks.â
Quinn, upon hearing you, chimed in. âReally? You sure you donât want to?â
âYeah, Iâll be fine.â You shared a look with her that only the two of you knew. You turned to Ethan, âWhy?â
âCan I walk you?â
You were surprised, to say the least. âReally?â
âSo youâre safe.â
Preparing to protest, you felt Quinnâs hand on your arm. âLet him.â
So you did.
The walk home was brisk. The streets were empty, the street lamps illuminating your synchronized steps with Ethan.
With him, silence was never awkward. It was justâŚquiet.
It was no secret that you were perceptive, especially to your friends. Quinn knew why, but the others thought it was just you, not something caused by the spider bite. Your senses were especially heightened around Ethan.
You would never mention it, but you knew his heartbeat sped up when he got close to you. You only caught it a few times on accident trying to listen for something else, but youâd never actually do it on purpose.
Lately it seemed he was spending more time with you since the night you came back (which was three weeks ago at this point). One, he would message you on Discord asking if you wanted to do a study callâyou never failed to say yes (making Ethan giddy). Two, he began to ask you things about your life during those calls when you would both take a break from studying. Like he wanted to know more about you.
Three, you began to spend time together outside the group.
Quinn was excited for you the first time you told her that you were going to see Ethan and only him. Of course, you told her not to read into it, but when has she ever listened?
Things were going fairly well. Especially with New York as a whole, nothing too major had happened (no supervillains, thank god), only a few robberies and cats stuck in a tree.
You were sitting atop a building when a tingling sensation in the back of your neck alerted you to something. Then, as you honed your hearing, you heard glass breaking a block away.
Swinging never got old.
As you reached your destination, a small bodega being robbed, you spotted him. Ethan.
Your heart began to pound in your ears, watching from the outside as the robber trained the gun on his hostages inside the bodega, one of them being Ethan.
It was like muscle memory. Go in, threaten the robber, and if it escalated, you fought him.
âIâm going to get rid of you, Spider-Woman!â The man in the mask hissed at you, his pistol trained right at your heart. This part didnât scare you anymore, but Ethan being hereâdid. âIf you come any closerâŚâ He stepped away, instead pointing the gun at some old lady, who looked scared shitless. âIâll shoot her!â He noticed you werenât fazed at threats against you, so he targeted the next best thing: civilians.
âEasy, there, cowboy. Why donât you point that gun at me? I thought you wanted to get rid of me.â You tilted your head, gauging the severity of the situation.
In your peripheral vision, Ethan stepped in front of the lady, trying to usher her to the side.
God, he was an idiotâbut youâd be lying if you said that didnât warm your heart.
The robber didnât notice because he was still staring at you, watching for any sudden movements youâd make.
It happened in three seconds.
One, you shot the web to the gun, trying to pull it back to you.
Two, the gun went offâa slip of his finger caused by your web. Before you saw who it hit, the man came at you.
Three, you took him down, knocking him out.
It was the next second that you decided your life wouldnât be the same.
You heard a hiss, a gasp from onlookers, and you took away the magazine of the gun before your head snapped up to where the hiss came from.
Ethan.
Red was the first thing you saw. It was on that yellow cardigan he wore when it was chillyâYou rushed to his side, seeing the red come from his arm. He was backed up, leaning against the wall.
He was wide-eyed, face scrunched up in pain. âShit,â He put pressure on his wound. âIt hurt less than I thought it would.â
If only he could see how the tears lined your eyes under the mask.
âWe needââ You tried to keep your voice steadyâ âWe need to get you to a hospital.â
âIâm fine,â He hissed again as you pressed harder on his arm. âItâs just a graze.â He saw your concern.
âNoâIt couldâveâit couldâve hit something vitalââ Despite your knowledge that it likely didnât, your head was spinning and rational thought werenât exactly on the table.
The sirens reached your ears before anyone elseâs.
You took a deep breath. Your head cleared.
âThe ambulance is gonna get here soon, uhââ You cleared your throat. âDonât move, okay?â You nodded to him, and left.
Okay, you didnât actually leave. You stayed on a rooftop across the street, a few buildings over, seeing that he was okay as he got checked out by the paramedics.
That was when you actually left. For good this time.
The timing was almost perfectâthe next day, an old friend came to see you.
You werenât expecting anybody, hanging out in an abandoned building you found in the outskirts of Brooklyn when you were a teenager.
But a black hole opened up right next to you. Maybe not a black hole, but the closest thing to it.
That was when you saw Miguel OâHara.
Quinn had no idea that, when she woke up that morning, it would be the week she spilled your secret to the friend group.
This is how it went down.
Last evening, she told you to be careful before you left for patrol. You never came back in the morning. She didnât see any evidence of you being there, like your shoes haphazardly thrown across the floor near the front door, or your backpack on the couch. This had happened once before and she found out you were at your Aunt Mayâs houseâso she just sent you a text and went on with her day.
It was also the day Ethan called her and told her that he was shot. Then he texted the groupchat about what happened and they all (including Quinn) rushed over to his and Chadâs apartment to see in person that he was actually okay. A bit of a freaky situation that Ethan was caught up in that, but everyone calmed down eventually. But when Ethan told the story, Quinn hoped your disappearance had nothing to do with his getting hurt. She also noticed that he was bummed about you not being there.
It was the second day she got worried. No sign of you. Nothing on the news about Spider-Woman, either.

Quinn
Anybody heard from Y/N?
Chad
arenât you her roommate
Quinn
Hasnât been home since Saturday.
Ethan
She hasnt answered any of my texts
Chad
okay now iâm worried

Mindy
nope. anika says no too
Sam
Not me or Tara. Iâll try calling her
She didnât answer
Ethan
Quinn do u know where sheâd go? maybe to a family member?
Quinn
I dont know her aunt mays address
Chad
letâs wait a day to see if she turns up. if not then weâll get together to brainstorm
You werenât there the next day, so everyone gathered at yours and Quinnâs apartment to see what couldâve happened to you.
They all stood around the kitchen island.
âHas everybody called her?â Chad said, arms crossed. âTexting her and everything?â
Everyone nodded.
âQuinn,â Tara began. âHave you checked her room?â
She looked down, almost ashamed. âI did, actually. Nothing.â
âDo you think we shouldâŚcheck again? Maybe weâll find something.â
âIâm good at snooping, if you need.â Anika added.
Quinnâs eyes slightly widened, âNo!â Calming down, âI meanâno. She doesnât like other people going through her stuff. I can because Iâm her roommateânot you guys.â At times of stress, this was the best she could come up with.
âOkayâŚâ Mindyâs eyes narrowed in suspicion. âHow about an address to Aunt Mayâs place? Do you think we could find that somewhere?â
The realization dawned upon herâno way of getting to you. âNo. But she wouldâve told me if she was going there.â
âLook, Quinn.â Mindy sighed, âCan you justâbe honest with us?â
The ginger nodded.
âWhat was the last thing she said to you?â
âIâshe was going out to buy something.â
Ethanâs nostrils flaredâhe knew when his sister was lying. Why was she so adamant to hide your whereabouts, even if it meant you were in danger? He sighed.
âIâveââ Everyoneâs heads snapped to Ethan at his interruption. âIâve had enough of it, Quinn. What the fuck are you two hiding? Seriously.â
Safe to say there was nobody in that kitchen who wasnât surprised at his sudden outburst. He didnât care, though.
âYou always fucking lie, Quinn. I can tell. Why donât you think I can tell? She goes missing, and youâre still keeping a secret!â
Chad put a hand on his shoulder, âDude.â
The boy took a deep breath, reminding himself where he was. âSorry. For shouting, I mean. But you canât justâask us to look for her when we all know damn well that you know something we donât.â
At that moment, she had two choices. She thought for a long moment before she couldnât find a rational explanation as to why she shouldnât tell them that youâre Spider-Womanâyou could be dead by now.
She walked away, hearing Mindy say âAre you fucking serious?â right behind her.
They didnât have to wait for long, because Quinn came back from your room with something in her hand. They examined the object as she threw it onto the counter.
It was a maskâSpider-Womanâs mask.
âHoly shit,â Sam was the first to say.
âWanna know the secret?â Quinn crossed her arms. âThereâs your fucking secret.â She directed it at Ethan, whose mouth was slightly open.
She took a deep breath, a similar trait to her brothers to calm herself down. âThe night she left, she told me she was going on patrol. When she didnât come back the next morning I thought she was fine. Now itâs the third day, nothing from her. LookâI mightâveâlike, fucked up. I donât know.â
âHow?â Asked Mindy.
âI shouldâve told you sooner.â
It was clear to them that Quinn must have had this weight on her shoulders for so long.
âI haveâŚso many questions.â Said Chad. âSo whenâŚSpider-Woman came to my apartment, that was Y/N?â He grabbed the mask, analyzing it with his hands.
âWhy do you think she came to yours? She knows you have that stupid med bag with the unused suture kit.â
âIs that why she always left?â
âMhm.â She nodded. âI thoughtâthings were getting better. She was getting close to us again, stopped patrolling some nights because of my brotherâs stupid discord calls.â
Ethan was breathless. âWhat?â
âLookâpoint is: she didnât want to put anybody in danger. If I didnât find out by accident, she never would have told me. She justâŚcares about you guys too much. She thinks if you know sheâs Spider-Woman, youâd be in danger.â
When Ethan came face to face with Spider-Woman in the bodega, it was you. That was your concern, practically radiating off of you in waves. He knew you seemed familiar, somehow. But everybody knew Spider-Woman. He knew you differently. You saved his life.
Everybody was taken aback by the news. But Sam, ever the leader, began. âSheâs been protecting us this whole time. All of us. Itâs time we have to do the same for her.â
âHow?â
âWe find her. In any way possible, even if it means we have to track down her entire family, go back to her high school friends, anything we can think of, okay?â
There was no doubt in anyone elseâs mind that they were all on board with the plan.
âLetâs do it.â
ONE WEEK LATER
It was the first night in a week that Ethan got proper sleep. The exhaustion finally caught up to his body after countless sleepless nights spent poring over clues on how to find you. Heâd been making progress on the Oscorp lead when the last thing he remembered was slumping over at his desk.
Which was why it was weird when he opened his eyes, he saw the ceiling. He was laying down in the comfort of his own bed. Maybe he actually went to bed and didnât realize it. The sunlight peeking through the curtains was probably a sign to get up, get back on the investigation.
That was until he sat up and saw a figure at his desk, standing over some of the files he sorted.
It took him a second to see it was you. Was he dreaming?
âYouâre finally up.â He heard the voice come from you, and saw your mouth move, and as he processed your sweet voice and the teasing lilt to it, he almost fell off his bed jumping out to rush over to you.
He almost knocked you over as his (surprisingly) muscular arms wrapped around you in a quick second, you returning the hug with a smile he could feel on his neck. He was almost speechless. Almost.
Slightly pulling away, he got a good look at you, unharmed, grinning at him with the power of a million suns. He kept his arms around your waist, keeping you close as if he was afraid youâd disappear once more. Nonetheless, he mirrored your expression as he felt your breath on his face and your arms looping around his neck, running your hands through his soft curls.
âYouâreâŚhere. Youâre actually here.â
Your soft hand came to rest against his chest, feeling his heartbeat along with hearing it.
âIâm sorry I left.â
The boy shook his head, âWhat matters is you came back. You always did.â
âI always will, Ethan.â
YESTERDAY
It was early morning and the feeling of defeat was strong in the room. Everyone was there at your and Quinnâs apartment all with one goal: to find you. Theyâd started this search almost a week ago with a determination in their eyes akin to a fight for survival, mainly because it kind of was. But as the days went on and the meetings at the house got longer to discuss other possibilities surrounding the circumstances of your disappearance, the metre to measure the disappointment was getting higher.
They all sat at the couch, flipping through the news channels, all talking about how Spider-Woman hasnât been seen in over a week. It was an alarming wake up call for the city, because crime rates had gone up significantly without the friendly neighbourhood spider watching over the residents of the city that never sleeps.
The news anchors all echoed a similar message. Where is Spider-Woman? Many have theorized that this may be the end of an eraâ
Sam clicked the red button on the remote, the screen turning to black. âWe canât give up.â
âI didnât wanna have to, butââ Tara sighed, âWe said if we canât come up with anything, weâd get the police involved.â
Chad slumped right next to her. âWhat are we supposed to tell them? Hey, our friendâs been missing for a week and weâre just now reporting it. And FYI, sheâs the vigilante who does your job for you.â
âNot like that.â
âBut we canât tell them sheâs her, right? If they find her, sheâd be arrested.â
âIf they find her alive, that is.â Mindy added grimly, looking at the ground.
âDude, come on.â Her brother tapped her arm.
âIâm just saying.â
âQuinn, Ethan.â Tara refocused the conversation, âYour guysâ dad is a cop, right?â
They looked at each other before nodding.
âCan you talk to him? You donât have to tell him anything justâfind out if anything happened lately, okay? Anything new.â
Anika added, âWeâre not even on the week mark. Itâs tomorrow. How about we focus on our leads today, then meet again tomorrow. If thereâs really nothing, weâll go to the police, okay?â
âThat sounds good.â Ethan agreed.
âAlright,â Sam exhaled. âDismissed.â
Everyone was sleepless that night. There was the obvious tell of the bags under everyoneâs eyes growing bigger, not to mention the slouching and the less than ideal attention span they had lately.
Quinnâs eyes were wide open in the dark of room, wondering and hoping you werenât dead in some back alley somewhere.
A sound in the living room broke her out of a dazed stupor. It wasnât too loud, but not subtle, either.
On edge, her hand shot to grab the bat right next to her bed, a gift youâd given her for self defense purposes. She was careful not to make any sound, clearly unlike this moron who was breaking into her house on the middle of the night with heavy steps.
The fridge was open, the door hiding the figure of the person behind it.
She was ready to swingâ
You. The figure closed the fridge door and it was you in your suit.
Maybe it was the lack of food that caused you not to notice her presence immediately, but you heard the clacks of the wooden bat hitting the floors before you clocked your roommate fully embracing you in a bear hug.
âQuinn!â You chuckled, returning the embrace. âMissed you too.â
She pulled away abruptly after a second, a stern look on her face but a layer of worry in her eyes. âWhere the hell have you been?â She grabbed your shoulders and pushed back a little, looking over your entire body, checking for injuriesâbut you were clean. Not even a scratch. âShit, youâre okay.â
âIââ
She hugged you again.
That was when you realized why she reacted like this. âHow long have I been gone?â
She looked at you like you were crazy. âYouâve been gone a whole week.â
âShit. I didnât leave a note, did I?â
The guilt on your face was apparent, but it was nothing compared to the stress everyone had gone through while you were away.
âYou didnât. All of us have been looking for youââ Something dawned on her. âIâŚhad to tell them.â
You didnât react the way she expected. She expected youâd be upsetâangry, even, but not this. Not you being the one to hug her this time, taking a deep breath.
During the embrace, you spoke, your voice vibrating on her shoulder as your head rested against it.
âIt was so stressful, out there. I have so many things to say. But Iâm so tiredâI wanna explain everything later.â You sighed, âHowâs Ethan?â
âHeâs okay. Iâll drive you to his place tomorrow, okay?â
Mindy, Chad, Tara, Anika, and Sam all woke up in their respective apartments to a text message in the group chat.
Quinn
Can we all meet at Chadâs place today? In a few minutes. Urgent!!!
After the conversation yesterday, they all expected the worst. Maybe Quinn had gotten information from her cop dad that Spider-Woman was found deadâthey were all thiniing it. Ethan, however, having been up until late, was still sound asleep, phone on silent mode.
They met at the front door of the apartment building (of course, except for Chad, who was in his bedroom staring at the text in worry), Sam looking among the group to reassure them. âGuys,â She sighed. âMaybe ifâs not bad news.â
Mindy turned to her. âReally?â She sounded exhausted, almost ready to give up.
âIf Quinn had really bad news, she wouldâve called us. Probably, right?â Tara backed her sister up.
âLetâs justâŚgo in. Sheâs probably not even here yet.â
Just then, the sound of a car approaching quickly caught their attentionâQuinnâs car.
Tara was at the end of the group, giving her the advantage of seeing first who was in the passenger seat of the car, getting out.
âY/N!â She yelled.
The rest of them turned, almost running to the middle of the street as you closed the car door, leaving Quinn to find parking. You ran to the sidewalk, running into Taraâs arms.
You could feel the warmth radiating from the group as they welcomed you back with open arms, feeling guilty that you must have made them worry for them to react like this. Knowing some of their history with the murders in Woodsboro, it mustâve been terrifying for them to think they couldâve lost another friend.
It wasnât long until you felt the missing piece, a hole amongst them that resembled a shape in your heart: Ethan.
âWhereâs Ethan?â You tried not to show panic, but it was likely obvious due to Anika immediately reassuring you.
âHeâs okay! Heâs fineâheâs just sleeping.â
You sighed, relief taking over. âHe doesnât usually sleep in this late.â
âHe was up late last night, he said he got a good lead on you. HeâŚâ She contemplated for a moment, not wanting to worry you. âHe took it pretty hard when you dropped off.â
Tara almost slapped her arm. âYeah,â she looked to you, watching carefully for any signs of panic. âHe was worried. Probably more than any of us. But you can wake him up.â
âDo youâŚCan you tell us what happened? Where were you?â Mindy was reluctant to ask in case it was difficult for you.
But you were happy to tell themâyou figured you owed them that much after having them think you were dead for a week. âIâll tell you inside, come on.â
Pizza and drinks were being passed around, everyone was here, and you chose to sit right beside Ethan. He couldnât stop looking at you. You could feel it.
As you animatedly told the story of meeting other people who also had spider powers, had similar stories, Ethan then began to wonder what would be next. Would you stay? What if you wanted to go back there, be with people who really, truly understand you?
By the end of the night, the group was preparing for the sleepover. But you could tell something was troubling Ethan. You studied him from the couch while the crew was gathering pillows, and he caught your eye and said, âWanna go to the rooftop?â
You tilted your head on instinct, confused.
âYou knowâŚgood air.â He shrugged.
âSure.â
The walk up was silent. Maybe more than silent, if that were even possible.
As he opened the door to the rooftop, you made eye contact for half a second. And in that half second, Ethan decided he wonât lose you. In that half second, you looked away, then looked up againâand he gently grabbed your wrist, pulling you close enough that you felt his breath on mingling with yours, so close that you thought he was going to kiss you. But he began to speak.
âCan Iââ
And you kissed him.
It was a small one, but when you tilted your head to lean in closer and tangled your hands behind his neckâChrist.
You pulled away abruptly and he wondered if he had done something wrong. At the same time he said âHoly shit,â you asked, âWait, thatâs what you were going to ask, right?â
Once his brain recovered, he finally nodded, âYeah. You beat me to it.â
After a pause, he began again. âDoes this mean you wonât leave?â
âLeave? Who said that?â
âWell, I just thoughtââ
âYouâre an idiot, Ethan Landry. Come here.â
