the over exaggeration of Lance’s lack of skill or, according to some, inability to prove himself as a good driver is reaching astounding new levels and it continues a sad little trend of taking drivers at face value dictated by a certain mass of people. we can joke about Lance’s only crime being that he has a very loving father but there is truth in that, especially when you see people get mad at nepotism in THE nepotism sport. I would argue that the hate could have been justified if Lance was dead last in the standings, crashing out every other race, crashing into others left and right or being a bad sport in general but any of that can hardly apply. the trend of using Lance as poster boy of everything wrong with formula 1 and hurling insults at him, his fans, AM’s comment sections etc is reflecting more on the entirety of the fan base than it does on Lance himself. to some people he’ll always remain a good-for-nothing pay driver with daddy’s cash in his pocket but that may only show every other individual’s unwillingness to open their mind a little. I could sit here and explain in detail every good quality Lance possesses as a driver and team member, yet it’s not the reason for this post. surface level impressions rule all in sports and not that we can sweep in each time with “oh no-no, he’s actually not as bad as people love to claim” but imagine if sometimes people formulated opinions by themselves without the hinderance of the Big Bad General Opinion that would punish anyone should they not agree with it? that would be wild!

anyway. choose your own hill to die on but at least have some courtesy to tag whichever hate you choose to go down with.
