Posting some info about merfolk in “Merfolk Courting Rituals Are Confusing!”

Average Mer: Between 16-18 feet in length, usually brightly coloured, though some from colder waters can be duller in shade. Fins down the human spine, and larger sail on the mer-spine, with either split caudal fins (southern mers), quad caudal fins (northern mers), muscle dense flukes (eastern mers) or a “wrap around” fin like an eel (western mers). Their hair is akin to otter fur, fairly dense and thick, follicles thick at the root and thin at their ends. The largest mer ever recorded was nearly 36 feet, though it’s rumoured they can get much, MUCH bigger.

“Specialty” Mers:

Sirens: Marked by a patch of scales on the throat and sleeker, shorter fins. Most are smaller than normal mers, but they’re more dangerous simply due to the fact that they need a much higher amount of calories, resulting in a much, much higher prey drive. Mers can also have “false” siren marks, like a false throat patch or short fins so this isn’t always a solid marker.

Cecelia: Mers that have the lower halves of squid, cuttlefish or octopus rather than a fish. Duller, more natural colours and generally struck through with darker striation or spots.

“Old World” Mers/Aglos: Not aquatic like “Merfolk” Old World Mers prefer to be called Aglo’s. Aglo’s are feathered, usually after a sea bird of some sort, though it is not uncommon for an Aglo to end up with feathers akin to tropical birds.

Hi JJBA tumblr — not only am I BACK, I’m back and rewriting MMR again.

I know, I know, this is like the 3rd time, but this time! It’ll be GOOD — I have an actual outline, an actual plot, an ACTUAL end goal, all of it. AND this will be written by someone who ISN’T in highschool while pretending to be an adult lmfao. I’m 20 going on 21, and I finally have an ACTUAL idea of what I want coming into AND out of MMR.

With that being said, MMR’s tag is gonna change and EVERYTHING about old MMR is gonna be non-canon to the new upcoming canon. The name will stay the same for the most part, perhaps going to “Merfolk Courting Rituals Are Confusing!” or MCR or MCRAC, idk. EIther way, a lot of the canon is changing, and all of the posts here are now voided!
