Paper Hearts | KNJ

Rating: General Word Count: 8.8k+words Pairings: Namjoon x Reader, ft. Hoseok Genre: co-working idiots to lovers, fluff, humor

Summary: When Hoseok has grown tired of silently watching the two dense idiots who can’t flirt for shit, he takes matters into his own hands. Good thing there’s a nook on the internet that anyone can upload their writing under an alias. Thinking that none of his friends will ever read it, he named his characters Namjoon and Y/N. ( kofisips masterlist )

Warnings: a bit of sexual innuendo in some of hobi's writing, mutual pining but don't blame them they're just idiots, hobi carrying this fic

“I can’t–I can’t deal with this shit anymore,” Hoseok ruffled his hair aggressively, ”All this exhausting effort for nothing.”

Everyone in the office knows that you and Namjoon liked each other but none of you made a move.

The few moments you’ve only spent with Namjoon were during work whenever he would ask you to throw in some ad-libs on the mix. Usually, you’re more than happy every time he hits you up about it so you always agree instantly. However, most of your interactions only had to do with work.

Initially, you wanted to be a recording artist but you were too awkward to try and force yourself to smile for the camera, let alone interacting with other people you’ve only met for the first time. A superstar’s work wasn’t for you or so you thought. Besides, you were always someone who took things with a grain of salt. Which is why you think being a producer is perfect for you because you can do the things that you enjoyed doing silently.

Producing is more than listening to layers of sound and cleaning your ears – it was tedious, draining, and demanded a lot of attention and time to work on. Sometimes, when they need backup vocals or ad-libs in the mix, you get to sing like a recording artist would inside the booth. It was good compensation for the dream you thought you’ve always wanted.

You always dreaded editing everything all on your own. Thankfully, Namjoon was always there to help you out.

Namjoon’s work ethic is unmatched, which is why it’s a no-brainer when you find yourself developing a massive liking for him. He is such a perfectionist when it came to his output; He always wanted to deliver the work that satisfied his standards.

When it comes to mixing, he was your complete opposite – Namjoon loved working it all on his own and editing everything from scratch. He loved how layers of various sounds could create melodies that brought comfort or attributed to a specific memory in a person’s life.

For the longest time, all Hoseok wanted to do was to bring you and Namjoon closer together and eventually, if he succeeds, finally date each other. He had thought of a series of master plans from A to Z saved on his notes – with the title ‘Hoseok’s Brilliant Ideas.’ Sadly, most of his attempts have failed miserably.

The reason why he would go through all these efforts of trying to get the two of you to date stemmed from him simply being a hopeless romantic.

Plan A: Slow introduction.

He started it by trying to have the three of you hang out in the studio whenever artists under Min Labels had to do their recordings. Hoseok knew extending hours at work wasn’t fun so he made sure you and Namjoon would get comfortable with each other first.

Plan A is supposed to work especially when you and Namjoon are both too awkward for your own good. You would blush profusely whenever he was nearby while he remained silent throughout the whole recording and mixing, heart pacing because you watched him edit the channels.

Fast forward to multiple all-nighters at the studio planned by Hoseok, you gradually grew comfortable with each other. As Hoseok looked at the both of you through his peripheral, he stifled a smile and thought, ‘Plan A: Success.’

Plan K: Bailout at the last minute.

The best way to get to know someone is by spending time with them. Alone. And so, Hoseok did just that. He begged both of you to come with him to the movies on a Sunday. Even said that he had always wanted to see this version of the new Spiderman movie.

When you and Namjoon have finally arrived at the theater, there are no signs of Hoseok anywhere. Like the genius he thinks he is, he made a fake excuse and said his dog gave birth when he never owned one, to begin with.

The next day, he giddily asked Namjoon about what had happened, “How was Tom Holland as the new Spiderman?”

Namjoon’s eyes squinted as he pondered about the whole movie experience. After some time of thinking, he shrugged his shoulders and muttered a quick hum, “Eh, it was okay. His villains aren’t anything grand unlike the others.”

Hoseok’s lips puckered, brows arching as he nodded his head to look like he was interested, “If that’s the case then I’m glad I didn’t watch it.” He chuckled fakely, “So, what did you guys do after the movies?”

“Oh we–uhm–uh,” Namjoon adjusted the crew of his shirt, “We ate popcorn.”

"Popcorn." Hoseok nodded slowly with a huge grin, “Okay, good, good. What else?”

“Then we went home,” both men blinked at each other silently for a brief moment before Namjoon decided to change the topic, “How’s your dog by the way?”

“Ah, yeah, she’s doing fine. The puppies were cute,” Hoseok broke a sweat when suddenly remembered his lie. Thankfully, Namjoon didn’t ask for pictures because he didn’t have a random photo off of google saved on his phone.

Plan Z: ⚠️ USE IN CASE OF EMERGENCY ⚠️

‘This is bad,’ Hoseok thought as he listened to you talk about this one date your friend had set you up.

Last week, your friend Mina introduced you to one of her friends from work. The date wasn’t too grand neither was it bad. It’s just that the two of you didn’t have much to talk about – you didn’t share the same interests nor were both of you on the same page.

Benefit of the doubt, you still agreed to go on a second date with him. In all fairness, he was persistent with trying to shoot his shots at you. You weren’t particularly fond of how he was all over you, but you did appreciate his efforts nonetheless.

“Love bombing is another form of abuse, Y/N,” Namjoon’s brows were knitted together, not too happy about this guy you were currently seeing.

“Maybe he’s just…affectionate?” You slowly shrugged with hesitation, unsure if it was the right term or if focusing on his good qualities instead was a reach.

“I don’t know,” Namjoon sighed and turned back to his computer with a frown.

After that day, distance suddenly grew between the both of you.

Hoseok was so frustrated over the fact that he had worked so hard in trying to make them friends, but now, it looks like both of you have gone back to simply being colleagues again.

This shouldn’t be his problem anymore, but he can’t help but feel so much anguish that the two best idiots he oh so wanted to be together can never flirt with each other like a regular person normally would – Namjoon liked to tip his toes around you while you always tried to keep a straight face, yet you still stole glances at him.

‘They’re hopeless,’ Hoseok internally panicked but pretended to just go on with writing the lyrics to one of the label’s artists, Jeon Jungkook, who's about to have his comeback.

He tried to think of the right words that would match the emotions and Jungkook’s voice but nothing came to mind. He even gave himself an hour of a nap when he got home but still, there was nothing. The only hope he finds in search of inspiration came in the form of a website – writeit.com.

Before being a full-time songwriter, Hoseok used to do creative writing work for fun. As a teen, he used to write alternate stories about the movies that awed him, sometimes even books he enjoyed reading. In his spare time, just to stay in touch with his hobbies, he revisits his old writeit.com account and reads all his all-time favorite bookmarked stories; and today was one of those days.

Scrolling through the updated website’s interface, his eyes widened at the new features, “Oh, cool! They’re posting original novels now.”

Just as he clicked on the suggested story, an idea suddenly entered – If he can’t make the both of you realize it, he’ll just give you the ending you deserve through writing.

It seemed like a good idea, perfect even. However, he struggled to think of what kind of genre fit the story he had in mind. Slice of life is a huge giveaway, given that this is already real life. Making it angst is like going through the hell of his failed plans all over again.

He passed through a list of genres the website had categorized in alphabetical order until he finally found something that he thinks is exciting to write.

“Enemies to lovers? Spy versus Kingpin? Sounds pretty interesting,” he smirked.

It’s funny how he had quickly outlined the story within minutes instead of working on Jungkook’s songs. He even went to the extent of studying other writers’ formats; taking notes on how they listed their warnings, ratings, and genre. He also noticed how people did their stories differently now compared to the stories he had read before. Regardless, he had the time of his life plotting the story under the tips of his fingers.

After he had finally set out his ideas, he froze as soon as he got to the part where he had to think of his characters’ names.

He watched the text cursor blink for a while. With brows furrowed, he debated whether or not to use any name that had a nice ring or just go with your real names; until he settled with the latter.

“It’s not like they’ll find it,” he snickered as he typed ‘Namjoon’ and ‘Y/N.’

His rekindled relationship with his old hobby kept him preoccupied. The sound of his keyboard keys clicking aired through the room; as he read the story aloud in between his typing, “At the age…of twenty – five? Or eight? Yeah, Eight’s better – twenty eight…Park Namjoon…became the CEO…of Park…Intellect…Security Agency – there, perfect!”

After 3 weeks of continuously going through the first chapter of his series, he called ‘Over Those Hills,’ Hoseok cracked his knuckles with a shit-eating grin that reached up to his eyes. The mouse’s cursor hovered over the ‘Post’ button; and with a deep breath that he held in for a while, he finally clicked it with one eye closed.

It was purely made for fun at first but the next thing he knew, he had garnered 500k reads in less than 2 months of posting the first chapter. His readers’ comments flooded his notifications, begging for him to post the next chapter.

He originally intended to write whenever he felt like it, but since he got himself a huge readership and following, he decided to continue with it as regularly as he could...without getting caught, of course.

Over Those Hills by wordsofhope Summary: Namjoon was given a chance to leap through every time loop just to be with Y/N. The catch? No matter how many lifetimes he has gone through, they always meet under ugly circumstances. Rating: Mature? idk. Genre: parallel universe, idiots to lovers (why can’t they just date already?) A/N: Hey guys! I can’t believe that this series got 500k reads! Thank you so much ㅠㅠ Stay tuned of what happens next to Namjoon and Y/N’s story, okay?

Everything was going well for his fiction writing career except for one thing – ever since he started writing about the two of you, he can’t look at you or Namjoon straight anymore. He became more shifty and always in a panic.

It only grew even more when he opened up commissions on some chapters when one of the requests he would frequently get is to write a smut.

“I don’t wanna sexualize them like that,” he frowned, knowing that he wasn’t even sure if he could write one when it was a fluff-centric story.

Other than that, he doesn’t even know what smut means – he only knows ‘mature’ for a rating because that was one of the five tags the website only had 7 years ago.

There was only one person he could ask about it; Someone who is a voracious reader and well-versed with terminology – it was Namjoon.

‘Am I really asking him something about his story?’

If Hoseok’s life was written fiction, this would have to be his story’s conflict.

Paper Hearts | KNJ

“Hey, man,” he patted Namjoon's shoulder lightly, making him earn a nod from him in return.

“What’s up?” He was hesitant to answer him but Namjoon had figured it out already, “Need help with work again, don’t you?”

Hoseok shyly nodded, “Yeah, actually, I do.”

“Having a hard time with the JJK mixtape?” he shook his head, making Namjoon lift a brow, “Oh, if that’s not it then what is it?”

He scratched his head while thinking of ways on how he’d word it out properly, “Okay, I just–I don’t know how to ask you this but,” He took a very deep breath, then heaved it out with his whole chest, “–do you know what ‘smut’ means?”

Namjoon stared blankly at an anxious Hoseok who waited for his reply, “...I’m sorry– a what?”

“A smut…?” Hoseok slowly sunk his body to his office chair.

“Porn,” Namjoon mumbled while avoiding his friend's eyes but Hoseok didn’t catch what he said.

“Sorry, what was that?” Hoseok asked with squinted eyes, trying to read Namjoon’s lips.

Namjoon shut his eyes tightly, “It’s porn written in text.”

Hoseok’s ears turned red while Namjoon’s eyes shifted everywhere, checking if anyone had heard him but thankfully, no one did.

‘I shouldn’t have asked, this is hella awkward,’ Hoseok mentally curled in a ball, cringing at himself for even asking such a thing when he finally realized he could’ve just googled it instead.

Paper Hearts | KNJ

It’s been a while since Namjoon had time for himself.

Whenever his schedule permits, he visits galleries or spends half of his day in a cafe while reading a book that had sat far too long on his list of things to read. Loving your job is one thing but enjoying your alone time that’s not related to work is another.

Today is his first time trying out the new cafe that had just opened near his apartment. The ambiance screamed for him – it was perfect! He liked how it was rustic with a good balance of modern, but not too intimidating to stay. The best part of it was they have a reading section where customers can read books off the shelves.

He made his way to the counter and greeted the barista warmly, “Hello, one iced americano and a croissant, please.”

She returned an equally warm smile at him as she punched his orders, “Okay, what size for your drink?”

“Large. I’m planning to stay longer,” she nodded.

“Will that be all?” He nodded, handing his card for her to swipe, “Your name, please?”

“Namjoon,” the barista’s eyes grew wide. On the other hand, Namjoon looked at her with so much confusion and worry, “Are you okay?”

She nodded her head and flailed her hands to fan herself, “No way! Someone’s actually named Namjoon? I thought Over Those Hills’ Namjoon was the only one to have such a name!”

Namjoon’s brows knitted as he slowly shook his head, “Uhm– not really? It’s a pretty common name as far as I know.”

The barista’s lips parted in shock, “What? It is? I thought the book’s author made it up?”

He thought she was – what do you call it? – unusual to put it nicely, but he still chuckled at her reaction, “Yeah, I’m guessing that’s your comfort book for you to gush over the characters like that.”

She giggled while nodding at him, “It is! Wordsbyhope is such an amazing writer.”

3 hours have gone by but Namjoon can’t seem to focus on the book he was reading and the moisture of the iced americano he had ordered earlier had started to pool on his table already.

He frowned, annoyed with himself; ever since the barista had recommended her favorite book, he had grown intrigued by it. He hates it whenever it happens – he reads a book, puts it down, then goes on to read something else more interesting.

Assuming that the cafe carried it in their bookshelf, he scanned the shelves one by one but it wasn’t there. ‘Maybe it’s hard to find?’ he thought.

Going back to his table, he pulled out his phone and looked for a certain 'Over Those Hills' in hopes he’d find a reseller who carried it on hand. After a few seconds, he tapped on the first link that redirected him to wordsofhope’s list of works.

“Namjoon and Y/N?” he chuckled. As he read through the warnings and other story notes, his eyes shockingly grew wide at the word count per chapter, “35k!? There’s no way in hell I’m reading all 50 chapters of this!”

The next thing he knows, he’s shedding tears and laughing hysterically at every scene and dialogue of every chapter he has read.

He was so invested with the series, he even made an account to follow the author to get notified every time they decided to update the story. Surprisingly, after hesitating to read all the posted chapters, he had already gone through half of it already.

Just as he finished chapter 35, there was an alert that the author had posted an announcement on his page:

Posted by: wordsofhope Message Board: Hey guys, I’m opening my “request a chapter” commission again. I’m letting you decide how Namjoon and Y/N’s story goes for Chapter 51! I’ll be linking down my comms page in case you’re interested. As always, I’ll only accept one request. Thanks!

“That’s so stupid and exploitative; why would you let someone commission you for a chapter just because you’re running out of ideas?” His forehead creased at the post yet, he still tapped on the link. It was so crazy to him that the author only charged what was considered as underpaid for a commission when their writing is so engaging, “For 2-cents only? If I were them, I wouldn’t write shit this good for free.”

As it turns out, the supporters were beyond happy that the author had delivered their requests just the way they imagined it – sometimes, even exceeding their expectations. One of the supporter’s feedback wrote: Thank you, wordsofhope for that wonderful update! It’s like you went inside my head and put it all in beautifully written words (I’m gonna cry, seriously). I hope you try writing smut next.

Funnily enough, he didn’t just pay the author 2-cents for a chapter. He did something bigger, maybe even better – Namjoon tipped wordsofhope $50 for a fluffy update on Chapter 51 of Over Those Hills.

Was it exploitation in the form of entertainment? Probably. Will he get the most out of what he paid? He’ll make sure of it and so he did. He typed in his request in detail.

Namjoon sighed, “I should really stop reacting if I'm eating my words anyway.”

Paper Hearts | KNJ

Hoseok’s eyes bulged and looked like they would pop out of its sockets anytime now, “Fifty-fucking-dollars!? Who the fuck is this user? Rkive? Oh, nice. Well rkive, you’re crazy I'll tell you that!”

This was something he never expected. Usually, he’d let $1 or $2 at maximum slide but $50 was too much money for one post. If this were any other writer, they’d be more than happy to accept it in a heartbeat. However, Hoseok thought it was absurd when there were a lot of writers on the website who wrote stories far better than his. If anything, they were the ones who deserved this kind of tip.

He doesn’t want to sound ungrateful about it; it’s just that he wasn’t confident if he could deliver a chapter that was worth paying for that amount of money.

At first, he wanted to click the ‘decline offer’ button. As soon as he read the request’s note, his heart softened instantly.

Offer Request: rkive has tipped you $50! Message: Hello, wordsofhope. I’m a new reader who just found your story from a barista. If ever you accept my tip, I’d like to request for a fluff update on the 51st chapter. I don’t really know how to describe it but, maybe a scene where Namjoon sees Y/N in a room full of people or something like that. I don’t really write so I wouldn’t know. Your series made me think of someone I really like but can’t bring myself to tell her that. I hope you can channel my feelings through your writing. I’m also sure you’ll give it justice. Thank you in advance :) -rkive

Hoseok sighed. There is no way he’s declining something as heartfelt as this; he had accepted numerous tips and requests but, this was the first time a reader had told him something like this, “Whatever expectation this rkive has, I hope he lowers them.”

It would be a shame to let this supporter down so he made sure to write it as best as he can. He thought of the instances when either yours or Namjoon’s eyes would light up as soon as the other entered the room. Hoseok smiled as soon as he found the opening words to the new chapter.

“Namjoon entered the hall’s heavy double doors, wearing a suit and tie that fitted him well – okay, pretty good – His eyes scanned through the hall until his gaze landed on something…rather, someone–Nice, nice,” Hoseok proofread his work aloud, not even sipping the coffee that he’s holding, “There she was, standing in her black backless dress – does that sound sexy? I don’t know – her eyes met his dark orbs. When she smiled at him, he realized he had just lost a game he has never played – fucking brilliant!”

He typed his author’s note with a big smile, hoping the supporter who requested this chapter enjoyed reading it as much as he had fun writing it.

Author’s Note: This chapter has been requested by rkive! I hope you liked it (but if you didn’t, let me know so I can send back your refund)

“Oh boy, I just know rkive’s gonna love this cliche scene,” after double checking if he had missed out some words or punctuations marks, he scheduled the chapter and called it a night.

Five weeks had passed but sadly, there were still no notifications of the author updating the story.

Namjoon almost lost hope and even thought that he had been ripped off of $50. He just went on with his work and continued checking if the signal flow was good enough, then adjusted the channels once again on parts he wasn’t too happy with it. From time to time, he would check his phone for any alerts – still, he got nothing.

Hoseok tiredly walked into the studio, carrying his laptop with one hand while the other holding a folder. The heavy bags under his eyes gave it away that he had missed a couple of nights of sleep from writing songs and stories. Namjoon craned his neck to greet him but was taken aback by Hoseok’s weary state.

His gaze followed Hoseok, who lazily threw himself on the couch, burying his face and mentally begged for an hour of sleep, “Wow, you look like shit. Rough day?”

“Yeah, you could say that,” he says but, it sounded muffled, “I badly need coffee right now.”

“If you’re paying for mine then, I might go with you,” Namjoon snickered.

Hoseok lifted his head only to roll his eyes, “Fine, it’s on me. You’re lucky my freelance money came in.”

'Freelance money my ass,' he thought to himself.

Namjoon’s was floored at the sudden offer. He slowly clapped his hands while his mouth formed an ‘o,’ surprised that Hoseok was feeling generous today.

'Not me paying him with coffee instead of royalties for using his name,’ was all Hoseok thought about on the way to the coffee shop right around their building’s corner.

While they were waiting for their sandwiches to arrive, Namjoon’s phone finally lit up with the notification he had been waiting for the past weeks.

He hurriedly opened the story’s page and proceeded to read his highly anticipated commissioned chapter. Meanwhile, Hoseok lifted a brow as he watched Namjoon smiling widely at his phone.

“Really? Flirting in front of my latte?” he frowned.

Namjoon chuckled, “I’m not flirting with anyone. I'm reading.”

Hoseok’s brows shot up with excitement, “Oh cool, you’re back to reading again. What book is that?”

Namjoon’s gaze went back and forth between his phone and Hoseok, who was waiting for his answer, “It’s–I–uh, it’s not really a book but kinda like that, if that makes sense?”

He watched Hoseok’s eyes squint as he tried to guess, “So a PDF?”

He shook his head hesitantly, “Kind of but not quite.”

Hoseok ran his fingers through his soft hair, then scratched the back of his head, “Can you just show me what it is instead of making me guess?”

Namjoon sighed and hung his head low. There’s no way of getting out of Hoseok’s insistence at this point when he is also an avid reader himself.

He reluctantly handed his phone to him, which he quickly snatched away from his hands, very excited to read if the synopsis would pique his interest or not.

“Don’t judge me, alright? It’s a good read so your opinion doesn’t matter unless you’ve read it,” Namjoon utters under his breath as he slumped his back to his seat.

“Calm down, I won’t,” Hoseok chuckled.

Much to Hoseok's horror, his smile faltered as soon as he read ‘Over Those Hills by wordsbyhope.’ There was nothing negative he could say about what he was reading when he wrote it himself.

He’s doomed – not yet but, technically, he also is.

He wanted to scream and bawl in the middle of the cafe right at that moment. All along, he thought the odds of either you or Namjoon finding his stories were at zero. Unfortunately, the universe thinks it’s such a good prank to let his story find its way to it's main characters.

“See? You’re judging me and my taste based on what I’m reading,” Namjoon frowned.

“I–uh–no, it’s…it’s interesting–yeah,” Hoseok stammered through his words, “Uhm I need to go to the restroom, be right back!”

He took long strides, almost sprinting, to the men’s restroom to calm himself down in one of the cubicles inside. Pacing in circles inside the small space he was in, Hoseok nervously bit on his fingernails while his heart pounded wildly against his chest.

When he had grown dizzy from all the pacing he did, he leaned against the wall with both hands on his head, “Holy fucking shit, there’s no way this is happening right now!”

Namjoon waited for him to come back but he was taking too long. Growing bored while waiting for his friend, he decided to check the restroom and see if he was okay.

As soon as he got in, there was no sign of Hoseok near the sink or the urinals so he assumed he was in one of the cubicles.

“Hoseok?” Namjoon gently called out with a tad of worry lacing his voice.

Hoseok’s body jolted in surprise at the sound of his voice, “Y-yeah?”

“You okay, man?” Namjoon’s brows knitted together, hoping he was alright inside. “Are you sick?”

Hoseok felt like he was going to pass out anytime; he was breaking out in cold sweats and his body shivered as if he was sick from a fever of some sort, “I–uh–go away, Namjoon! I have…I have diarrhea – Yeah, that’s right – please, j-just wait for me outside and let me shit in peace!”

Namjoon hysterically laughed as he pinched his nose in case the weft of Hoseok's bowel movement entered his airways, “Okay, come out whenever you’re ready.”

Your brother, Taehyung, was very keen for you to meet his new girlfriend. You wished you could roll your eyes at him, but unfortunately, you couldn’t when the girl sitting across from you was so nice.

This has been the sixth time this year that you’re meeting a new girl he had started dating (again) so, you had to put on your best sister facade. You weren’t sure if he just fell in love too fast or was he simply went through women like tissue. Regardless, you were happy as long as he was.

“Soyeon, this is my sister, Y/N." He deadpans at you with a look you knew, "Y/N, this is my girlfriend.”

Taehyung tried to be calm while his darting eyes sent telepathic signals that pleaded: ‘Please, be nice’ which you got right away.

“Hi Soyeo–”

“I can’t believe it! Your name’s really Y/N!” Your eyes grew in surprise when she squealed. Taehyung, on the other hand, winced as he covered his right ear with a finger.

“I–yeah, why? Is there a...problem with my name?” You awkwardly chuckled.

“No, it’s just that I'm reading this series called ‘Over Those Hills’ and I met a customer who shared the same name as one of the main characters and now I met you! This is crazy!” Her excitement burst so much, you and Taehyung had exchanged fake smiles.

From under the table, you and Taehyung were exchanging messages. Both of you tried your best to type accurately without even looking down at your screens. It wasn’t the first time the two of you had done it. However, secretly talking about people in front of them wasn’t nice but, they didn't have a choice.

Y/N: gf's crazy [2:34 PM]

Taehyung: ur being mean rn [2:34 PM]

Taehyung: she’s not crazy just weird [2:34 PM]

Taehyung: I think [2:34 PM]

Y/N: bye bye time me thinks [2:35 PM]

Taehyung: shut up lol [2:35 PM]

Taehyung: but facts tho [2:35 PM]

You tilted your head to the side while squinting your eyes, “I’m sorry, what’s crazy? And why?”

“Because!" Soyeon exasperated. "One of the lead’s love interest is also named Y/N!” Your brows shot up when you finally understood why.

“Funny coincidence?” you chuckled.

“You should try reading it on writeit.com! It’s by wordsbyhope and his stories never miss!” You thought her reaction was cute, albeit weird, but still cute.

By the time you got home, you opened your laptop to look for this story that got Soyeon excited.

You’ve never met anyone who shared the same name as yours; when you were a young girl, you were also bummed out when you couldn’t find any ‘Y/N’ on the keychains that had names written on them. It’s not that you’re interested in reading it; you just wanted to see your name written on something else just for kicks.

When the first link that came up redirected you to a story titled ‘Over Those Hills,’ your eyes quickly looked for your name as you skimmed through the other notes the author had put up about the story. You smiled when you finally found your name, then froze in your seat when you read ‘Namjoon’ beside it.

“...Namjoon?” you blushed at the thought of you and him in a story.

Chances like this aren’t highly possible for it to likely happen, and funnily enough, your disinterest has now turned into curiosity as you clicked on to read the rest of the story.

“Taehyung’s girlfriend was right – this is crazy.”

Unlike Namjoon and Hoseok, you weren’t that much into reading unless you’re interested in it. The only things your short attention span can go through are: articles posted online since the reading time was shorter compared to a book.

It was an emotional roller coaster ride as you read your way through the chapters; you felt the warm sense of love the characters did for each other and cried at the chapters that were written with angst.

You have grown so imbued with the series, you decided to make an account just so you can leave your reactions at the chapters that you liked the most. Unfortunately, as much as you wanted to support the story’s writer, you didn’t want to spend money on a chapter request. Instead, you left comments that were heartfelt and very appreciative.

justwannalook says: I love how Y/N’s constantly growing as the book progresses! Though she isn't real, I'm rooting for her. wordsbyhope replied: Thanks for your kind words! Glad that you enjoyed reading it <3

Every chapter was so good, you couldn’t stop yourself from reading the rest of it until you’d gotten to the most recent chapter that was posted.

The butterflies in your stomach fluttered wildly inside your stomach while your heartbeat felt like it could crush a rib from the erratic pounding it did inside your chest.

“This is so cute! I wonder what it feels like to be looked like that,” you giggled like a high schooler until you’ve finished reading the chapter.

You rarely rave about something that you’ve read through on rare occasions like this, you tend to get carried away as you raved about the story. It’s great that the label had given you some time off on one of their artists’ mixtapes so, what better way of letting your excitement flow than telling an avid reader about it – you message Namjoon.

Y/N: If you told me reading was fun then I would’ve started reading a long time ago [7:20 PM]

Namjoon: lol that’s what I’ve been telling you [7:20 PM]

Namjoon: What book are you reading? [7:20 PM]

Y/N: It’s not really a book but it’s called Over Those Hills [7:21 PM]

Namjoon: No way! I love that series! [7:21 PM]

Y/N: So you’ve read it? I was just about to recommend it to you! [7:22 PM]

Namjoon: Hehe sorry I beat you to it. What are your favorite chapters? [7:22 PM]

Y/N: I think chapters 8, 13, and the 51. What’s yours? [7:23 PM]

Namjoon bit his inner cheek, contemplating whether or not to tell he liked the recent one as well when he paid for it. Not to mention how weird it was for the both of you to talk about a story when it used your names. Regardless, he did enjoy a good book discussion so, he just typed in a different chapter.

Namjoon: I like chapter 32 but my fave is also 51 :) [7:23 PM]

Y/N: I really thought my brother’s girlfriend was crazy when she told me about it [7:24 PM]

Namjoon: Same with the barista that served me. Guess the series’ pretty popular? [7:24 PM]

Y/N: Yeah, looks like it but I can see why [7:25 PM]

The smile that was plastered on your face reached up to your eyes; you were more than happy to have someone to talk to about things that excited you.

The last guy you dated never thought twice of letting you know how uninterested he was whenever you would show him something that excited you. Growing tired of being belittled every day, you decided to end things with him.

Namjoon was right when he said love bombing is another form of an abusive relationship. You wished you had listened to him sooner but, at the end of the day, you don’t regret anything that once made you feel happy.

The day you had told Namjoon about your breakup, he reassured you that you weren’t the problem and you were smart to get out of it as soon as you did. You were also supposed to let Hoseok know but, he was getting busier these days until you’ve completely forgotten about it already.

Hoseok had opened another chapter commission since the comments were filled with requests to open another one.

He rarely does these things as he felt it was ripping off someone else’s ideas and getting money out of it. On the contrary, it was a great way of connecting with his readers – who had spent copious hours reading his works – to the story so he digressed the idea.

“I really need to put up a ‘No Smut’ sign,” he heaved a sigh as he read a supporter’s $3 offered tip.

He wasn’t keen on reading the genre nor was he very experienced with having sex. He had only done it with his past partners exclusively. Not to mention it has been a while since he had been in a relationship.

Seeming that he was at a dead-end and running out of ideas for fluff and angst, he finally gave in but with a person in mind to help him. Someone who was well versed in taking women to bed. Someone who kept him up all night from the loud moans next door – Park Jimin was his guy.

‘Good luck to me. I hope he doesn’t find it weird that I’m asking for his help,’ he thought as he knocked on Jimin’s unit, clutching his laptop close to his chest with clammy hands.

Within seconds, Jimin opened the door and looked at him with all smiles, “Hey, hyung. What’s up?”

Unlike the other neighbors in the complex, Jimin was the friendliest tenant that lived around. He fondly remembers how he offered to help him carry all his things when he first moved in, making Jimin his first friend in the area. The noises that came from his unit annoyed the hell out of Hoseok but he just lets it pass because there’s no way you can hate someone who’s genuinely nice.

“I– yeah, kinda. I'm writing something,” Hoseok nervously chuckled, “I hope you don’t find it weird.”

Jimin’s brows shot up then knitted together, “Well, writing requires a lot of imagination and experience. Of course, I'll help you!” He lit up at Jimin’s response, “Come in, I’ll grab you a beer while we work on it.”

Jimin’s unit screamed so much of his personality the same as Hoseok’s unit did.

They sat comfortably in his living room, sitting across from each other while drinking their beers. As soon as Hoseok had asked him if he could help him brainstorm about how to write smut, Jimin spat his beer out.

“Why are you asking me that?” At this, Hoseok was so ready to retort.

“Because you keep the neighbors up all night with all the loud moans,” Jimin’s face turned red in embarrassment. He looked away with narrowed eyes as he brought a hand all over his face.

“Fine, how can this community dick help you?” He sarcastically smiled, making Hoseok laugh.

“How do you–uh, get things going on?” Hoseok deflated in his seat out of embarrassment.

“Elaborate,” Jimin chuckled, obviously teasing.

“How do you…start it or whatever happens in between?” Hoseok sighed defeatedly, thinking if he should just refund the tip, “I don’t really write things like this but, it’s already been paid for so…”

Jimin grinned at him, seeming to have found a way he could sort out his neighbor’s writing slump, “Okay, I’ll tell you how I usually do it. You can just write it down the exact same way or twist it a little bit. Your call.”

Hoseok listened intently as Jimin went into full detail on how things usually go. He clearly emphasized the importance of building up anticipation and why it was essential before having sex. He also elaborated on the do’s and don'ts of having sex until he had the time of his life when he explained the different kinds of sexual positions women usually enjoyed whenever he did it on them.

All throughout the back and forth throwing of questions, Hoseok blushed every shade of red there was on the color wheel. Jimin found it amusing how a writer who had probably been exposed to various materials was still uncomfortable with the taboo topics. Unlike Hoseok, he was always open to a lot of things he could try. Thankfully, he was available today to help him with his writing.

It was already midnight by the time Hoseok had finished writing the smut scene. Heaving a deep sigh, he tiredly slumped his body on Jimin’s floor, “I set myself up with this request.”

Jimin lightly tapped on Hoseok’s leg, “Get up and read it out loud, I’ll be in the kitchen listening.”

He lifted his head as his eyes followed Jimin, who made his way to the refrigerator to pull a few ingredients out. Jimin’s help was a surefire upgrade to his style of writing. For that, he was thankful for his help.

Finally sitting up, his eyes followed the cursor as he read the part, “It must be the alcohol in his system that gave him the courage to pull her back against his chest. Slowly snaking his arm around her waist, his other hand moved her hair to the side.”

Jimin hummed with approval, “Okay, good.”

“‘Why do you always walk away from me?’ Namjoon asked as he breathed her scent in, his lips tracing the outline of her jaw, sending shivers down her spine – Jimin, this is nasty as shit!” Hoseok groaned out frustratingly while Jimin only rolled his eyes at him.

“What do you mean? The anticipation is perfect,” Jimin looked at him with both hands on his waist, “Go on, hyung.”

Hoseok sighed when he got to the actual smut, “I can’t believe I wrote this – He held both of her hands over her head, slowly lifting the hem of her dress – oh my god! – Namjoon smirked smugly, ‘I could get used to this view’ – that’s so out of character for him!”

Jimin pinched the bridge of his nose from all of Hoseok’s side comments, “Listen, your series’ timeline doesn’t even matter when they’re jumping from one lifetime to another. Stephen Hawking even said you’re not the same person right now compared to the parallel universe version of yourself.”

Jimin was right. He enjoyed writing the story so much was that he had a lot of creative freedom in writing whatever he wanted to give the characters – which was usually the complete opposite of how both Namjoon and you were in real life. Though Jimin was too honest with his words, he immensely appreciated it.

“Looks like this chapter’s good to go,” Jimin grinned.

Hoseok pouted, slowly nodding his head, “I hope so. Thanks for the help, Jimin.”

When Hoseok had finally put the story up for reading, the first thing that you read on the chapter warning was the word ‘smut.’ Your eyes grew wide, unsure if you should read it or not.

No matter how good the series was, there’s no denying it was weird that you and Namjoon shared the same names as the characters. It was written in so much detail that it felt like the two of you were actually doing it even if you weren’t.

You blushed deeply as you anxiously read the chapter, only to blush even more at the smut scene. Never in a million years have you imagined having sex with Namjoon even if you had the biggest, fattest crush on him. However, it would be a lie to say that Chapter 54 wasn’t good – It was excellent.

Having enjoyed this part, you quickly went to the comments section to leave your satisfied review about it. As soon as you clicked the ‘Send Comment’ button, one comment from a user that went by ‘parkjm’ caught your eye.

“Wait what!?” You screamed at the top of your lungs, making your neighbors whip their heads in your house’s direction.

Meanwhile, Namjoon bit on his fingernails as he apprehensively read every word in the current update. The chapter was about two spies falling in love but resisting the urge to be together. It wasn’t something new but the way the author had written it with enemies to lovers in mind was mind-blowing.

"Oh god, that’s wild," his eyes grew wider and wider as soon as he read the steamy scene.

There was nothing intelligent Namjoon could say – at best, he thinks he forgot how to think or speak at this point. When he finished reading it, he decided to leave his appreciation for doing well on their first smut.

Hoseok scrolls through the comments and rating with a smile. The feedback from his readers were great, and Jimin's comment of support surely made it ten times better.

Parkjm commented: Hyung, this chapter is amazing! Let me know if you need my help again on writing the smuts next time *wink* #HoseokTopTierWriter

However, as soon as he scrolled further into the comments section, the thread under Jimin's comment made his jaw drop to the floor in shock.

justwannalook replied: JUNG HOSEOK!? rkive replied: See you on Monday, Hoseok :) wordsbyhope (rest) replied: OH GOD

Usually, you and Namjoon would exchange reactions through text whenever the series was updated. However, although the recent update was great, it was awkward to talk about it with each other after finding out that it was Hoseok’s story they were reading all along.

Both of you didn’t know whether to feel angry or not but one thing’s for sure: you needed to know why Hoseok was doing this.

Meanwhile, Hoseok was panicking in his room, gripping at his hair, “Oh fuck, oh shit, I did this to myself! I’m dead!”

He spent his weekend isolating himself in his unit, sleeplessly worrying about how he’ll face you and Namjoon with a good reason why he did it. He panicked so hard he decided to put his account on an indefinite hiatus without telling any reason why.

It wasn’t his business to pry on your and Namjoon’s relationships yet he agonized over the fact that the both of you can never meet eye to eye and see how actually good you would be with each other.

Out of everyone in the office, the both of you were the people he cared most about.

Paper Hearts | KNJ

The dreaded Monday finally came.

‘I should’ve texted my mom goodbye before I die today,’ was he thought about as he nervously entered the building.

His legs were shaking uncontrollably as he sauntered his way to the studio you and Namjoon usually worked on. The both of you were very professional so he wasn’t worried about that – however, he was worried about the reactions he’d get.

His clammy palms held on the doorknob tightly for a moment, still trying to find the courage to open it and enter. When his hand that seemed to have a mind of its own twisted the knob, a pair of eyes landed on him was a glare.

“H-hey, guys?” He awkwardly greeted them.

“Well, if it isn’t wordsbyhope. Happy Monday, Hoseok,” Namjoon sarcastically greeted him.

“Hoseok, why?” you mumbled, trying your best not to add any more tension to the situation. Usually, you never speak that much in intense confrontations let alone find yourself the topic.

There was nothing that Hoseok felt but shame as he looked at you worriedly. Unlike you, Namjoon wasn’t afraid of probing him with specific questions, “Didn’t it ever cross your mind if it made us uncomfortable?”

You watched as Hoseok frowned and felt bad for him, “Namjoon, Y/N I–”

“You what?” Namjoon lifted a brow at him, jaw clenching as he waited for his reason. “Care to explain why you wrote about us?”

Hoseok’s shoulders slumped in defeat as he sighed deeply, “I’m really sorry if I resorted to writing about the two of you. It’s just…It’s frustrating to see how much you liked each other but never shoot any shots.”

Your brows furrowed, “But that doesn’t answer our question.”

“I tried to set you guys up to date but, the both of you were so bad at flirting all my efforts were useless,” At this point, Hoseok looked like a lost puppy, “Other than that, I needed another creative outlet because Jungkook’s mixtape was burning me out so bad.”

Both you and Namjoon’s brows shut up, recounting all the times that Hoseok had bailed out of you at the very last minute – there was that trip to Busan, that time when they were supposed to see a new museum with him, and then the movie theater.

All along, they thought he was just unlucky to get himself in unfortunate emergencies. As it turns out, he was just trying to get them to spend time with each other.

Hoseok’s burnout was also true. It showed in his current work how drastic the difference it had compared to his previous ones. He was always the brain in songwriting in the company but, his poor performance is putting him under hot water lately.

On a brighter note, ever since he started writing for fun, his work improved a lot that’s why he was able to finish Jungkook’s mixtape before the deadline.

“But Y/N doesn’t like me, she likes you,” Namjoon mumbled, “Why would you force her with me when I’m not the person she wants” Your mouth hung open at his assumption.

“W-what? No!” Both men looked at you strangely.

“No?” They said in unison.

“I–I uh–I like…,” you took a deep breath before going on, “–I like…you,” you looked down at your shoes in embarrassment.

Namjoon’s heart felt like it was about to crack but he tried to pull himself together, “See? She likes you, Hoseo–”

“No, I meant you…Joon,” you shyly admitted. Taking a quick glance at Hoseok, you timidly say, “But writing a story about us was unnecessary, Hoseok.”

Hoseok looked at the both of you, very apologetic of what he had done, “I’m sorry If I thought that it would be a good idea to write a happy story that you deserved when I can’t let you guys see how good you are for each other,” he slumped his shoulders in defeat. “Y/N, Namjoon…I’m really sorry, you guys. I’ll close down my account after work.”

You understood Hoseok but, you weren’t sure if Namjoon did. You simply sighed, willing to let it all go now, “I don’t think you can do that.” Hoseok looked at you with furrowed brows when you started giggling, “You can’t when I paid for Chapter 55 already.”

Hoseok’s jaw gaped wide, “You’re justwannalook!?”

Namjoon gulped after finding out that you paid for a request. Being mad about it is pointless now when he also paid Hoseok to write a chapter for him.

Seeing that this is a good opportunity, he decided to join in, “Uh and I’m rkive. The one who requested for Chapter 51 to be fluff.”

Both of Hoseok’s hands rested on his head from utter shock, “You’re the one who paid me $50 for an update!? Why are you throwing money like you’re in a strip club!?”

Your head quickly whipped to where Namjoon, who was awkwardly looking at you and Hoseok, was, “You paid $50 for Chapter 51!? That’s my favorite chapter!”

Namjoon slowly nodded, nervous about what reaction he’d get from you, “Y-yes…? I got it after 5 weeks of waiting”

“5 weeks!?” You looked at them with a horrified look. Meanwhile, Hoseok felt like he was about to pass out any time when you pointed your finger at him, “This is so unfair, I paid $130 then he announced a hiatus!”

“$130!” Namjoon’s brows shot up, lips parted at how much you gave Hoseok. He looked at Hoseok with a disgusted look on his face, “And all I got was free coffee?”

“He treated you with coffee?” You lifted a brow at Hoseok, whose soul looked like it had already left his body.

“I’m really, really, sorry about it. I’ll do anything, please,” Hoseok whimpered with eyes tight shut. There was a brief silence that lasted for a while.

You glanced over at Namjoon, who was also highly strung as you were. You gasped when he was already looking. He nervously smiled at you while shrugging his shoulders, mouthing ‘So?’ while his finger pointed back and forth between him and you.

‘Is he asking me out?’ You thought with your head cocked to the side as you tried to decipher what he was saying.

In response, you mouthed back an ‘Date?’ to which he nodded.

Bringing a hand over your mouth, you felt your face heat up. At the same time, you tried to stifle your giggles when Namjoon signaled for you to wait with his hands.

The silence was too much for Hoseok already so, he slowly peeled one eye open to check what was happening. Much to his surprise, he saw both of you smiling at him, “W-what?”

“So, anything, huh?” Namjoon’s lips ghosted a smirk, making Hoseok even more terrified of what was about to come out next.

“Y-yeah, anything man,” Hoseok nodded swiftly.

“Even a refund?” You tried to stifle your chuckles when Hoseok nodded with hesitation.

“Uhm–uh–sure?” You and Namjoon looked at each other, exchanging smiles.

“Then it’s settled – you’re paying for our first official date,” The both of you chuckled at how dumbfounded Hoseok was.

Hoseok just stared blankly at the wall, brows furrowed and mouth agape. When you asked if he wanted to join you and Namjoon out for lunch, he couldn’t bring himself to say anything out of pure shock with how things had turned out. Knowing that it’ll take him a while to process everything, the both of you decided to leave him on his own for the meantime and promised to bring him a meal when you get back.

As he sat alone in the studio, he smiled like a proud idiot when it finally dawned on him that Plan Z was a success, “At least it was worth all the hassle.”
