The Ink Machine/Dark Puddles in Bendy is the embodiment of a cycle of “not moving on”

The Dark Puddles/The Ink Machine is an embodiment of “not moving on”

I think about this so much.

The Dark Puddles’ origin is still very much unknown, besides the fact that it appeared one day and the ink machine began to function, breathing life into creations.

One thing about it though, is that it ties together the characters throughout the bendy verse. Everything begins there and ends there, and begins again there. It’s a cycle by nature.

It’s created because Joey still wallows in his dreams over and over again, even if it becomes absolute ruins in the end. It created a world where time loops over and over again, where everyone experiences the painful process of continuously living out the same thing.

Even then, before the cycle even began, nobody in JDs can really seem to move on with the dream promised to them by Joey. Susie still wants to be Alice Angel. Bertrum still wants ownership of his work. Sammy still wants to satisfy “the grinning demon”, even though all of that is impossible, in the end.

And it still affects even people who had physically moved on from JDs, gent, or whatever place affiliated with the ink. Dot still wants to avenge or save Buddy. Thomas still wants to look over his creations.

It is what started the problems in JDs, which caused everyone in this story to be stuck in perpetual loops of their own. They were all stuck in a cycle from the beginning, they’d never realize.

Tangent : I think that’d be a pretty cool sub-message for the bendy series as well, a story about the tragedy of a bunch of people who just wants their “dream come true”, whether it’d be for themselves, for those they care about, or others, except fate has never/will grant them that opportunity, so they will do whatever they need to to let it be true, even if it means trampling over the lives of others over and over again. Joey opened that door to the impossibility they never considered before with the ink (machine)’s creation, and it just spiraled from there.

Life sucks, and people move on, but some don’t, simply stuck in a cycle.

Bendy is full of those kinds of people. Trying to justify, to paint the end to their misery with a happy ending they want, and not thinking of “hey, what if we move on, and try again next time, even if it’s something different? Even if this one lays in shambles?”

Ironically enough, the only one to clearly have moved on from Joey Drew Studios was Henry Stein, and even if it most likely ended on a bad note, Henry was going to start something new in his life.

And that one guy, a representation of him was left repeating the hellhole in Joey Drew Studios for a countless amount of time.

That is just one of my many interpretations and one of the many out there. I like all kinds of interpretations and theories of this game. There is so much you can scrutinize.

is it just me or does it feel like the audience got fourth-walled this chapter. I mean it’s like Dokja isn’t even the narrator this chapter. We barely got to see his face in its entirety. It’s like we don’t even know who he is during this chapter. It’s jarring in a weirdly good way after the continuous influx of thoughts narrated by Dokja the chapters before.

So I was thinking about the pocket watch symbolism in ORV one day and after that I had a board game session with a club and we all played Dixit and one of the cards in my first “official” hand (we had a dummy round before that with only three cards) was an open pocket watch with a starry night sky reflected on the cover’s inside. I wanted to have a reaction but I couldn’t so I just ended up thinking “wow, real funny coincidence” (sorry for bad quality image it was the only one I could find)
