Ok as someone who’s really into narrative structure and all that jazz, what I think you guys need to recognise is how hard Sherlock & Co is working at balance whilst it figures out its relationships. “Oh I’m never listening again if they carry on dedicating all that time to Mariana and John” ok so the almost exactly the same length bit where John talked about his dad to Sherlock and Sherlock laughed and called him by his first name was nothing was it? Idk man I have such huge respect for the writing of this show and how well it’s trying to cover as much ground as possible, ESPECIALLY since it’s very early doors and none of us can for sure say where any of the relationships are going. I think from a structure point of view Joel has made sure that the episode is balanced and has enough moments on both sides of the John/Mariana/Sherlock debate to keep his options open and his fans happy and you guys need to not write something off the second it suggests that it might not go in a direction you agree with.
Anyways that’s just my two cents but a reminder that the show has only been going for a few months and we’re still in the early days. I think Joel is doing a phenomenal job of keeping things open ended whilst also exploring his character relationships in an interesting way and I’m excited to see what he does with them in future.
