So Close

They hadn’t seen a good rom-com in a while and this definitely took the cake. It was hilarious but what got them the most was the nudity in it. When the male was naked, Mira would squeal and cover her eyes. Wonwoo could only look away in astonishment. He had no idea the movie would be so explicit. But when the female was nude, she would reach up and cover his eyes for him. Her cheeks heated up when seeing intimate scenes and only made her dilemma much worse.

It was a normal thing couples did. Except she and Wonwoo didn’t have a normal relationship. Mira was twenty eight and still a virgin, with religious trauma. They’ve dated a little over four years and haven’t even gotten close to being intimate with each other. A few heated kisses here and there. They’re both adjusted to being comfortable when either of them are wearing less clothing than normal.

And now that she's okay being exposed to more sensitive topics, her sexual frustration is getting out of control. She’s researching more, reading more romance books, and even going out of her way to purchase sexy garments and lingerie.

Mira completely zoned out during the last 10 minutes of the movie, coming back to her senses when Wonwoo started stretching his arms when the credits rolled.

“Did you like it?” She asked, looking up at him while she stretched as well.

“It was something.” He let out a big sigh like he was too scared to talk about the contents of the film. “Did you?”

“Yeah, it was funny.” Her eyes wandered back to his laptop screen, hiding the blush on her cheeks. She took the blankets off of her, rolling over him to get off the bed. “I’m gonna go to the bathroom.”

“Okay.” He held onto her hand before she slipped through his fingertips, watching as she excused herself.

When she was done, she could see how worked up she got by looking in the mirror. She turned on the cold water, hoping it would calm down the flush on her skin.

She came out, seeing the laptop shut on his desk and Wonwoo with open arms. She really loved when he was clingy like this. She smiled, climbing onto the bed and laying on top of him. He wrapped his arms around her, squeezing her tight and kissing her head.

He strokes the back of her head while his attention points to the ceiling. She lifts her head to look up at him, admiring his features up close.

She blushes the second he makes eye contact with her. As much as she wants to, she can’t look away. He brings his palm to her cheek, rubbing his thumb against her skin. He can even feel the warm flush with his touch.

“Can I ask you something?” Her voice is shaky, using the back of her hands to prop her chin up.

“You can ask me anything at any time.” He nods while brushing a stray hair behind her ear.

“Have you been with other girls before me?”

He paused, trying not to show his confusion on his face. He had no idea where this was coming from but he saw no point in hiding anything from her. “Yes, Mira. I have.”

“What happened with them?”

He sighed, pursing his lips. “Well, we’ve either drifted apart or they’ve cheated on me.”

Her eyes widened. “Cheated on you?”

“It sounds more embarrassing out loud.”

“No, I didn’t mean it that way–“

“I mean embarrassing for me.”

“If anything, they should be embarrassed. I don’t know why or how anyone could possibly do that to you.” Mira pouted, feeling sad that someone would ever cheat on him.

“I really don’t know.” He rubs his thumbs against her temples, sighing. “Why are you asking?”

“I just wanted to know… in case you’re losing interest in me.”

He furrowed his brows, scoffing. “At the end of the day, I’m a simple man. I want to love someone who loves me right back. And I love you. I couldn’t lose interest in you, Mira.”

“Really? Even if I can't give you what you need?”

“I have everything I could possibly need. What more could I ask for?”

She looked away from him as she blushed. She pushed herself off his chest to straddle his lap, the faintest hint of a frown on her lips. He sat up, wrapping his arms around her waist.

“What’s wrong, Mira?”

Mira had no idea how to put what she wanted to say into words. Not without embarrassing herself or turning him off.

He grasps her chin, turning her attention to him. She stares deep into his eyes before her hands come up to his face. Mira swipes her thumb across his bottom lip, her eyes darting down. “I…”

He hums, keeping himself restrained as he waits for her to finish.

“I want to give you more…” She angles her head better, lips just barely brushing against his. “I didn’t think it was possible to want you in such ways but I do.”

Her lips hover before she closes the distance, hoping that her kisses can communicate what she can’t with her words.

He tightens his grip, grabbing her waist and pushing her down on his lap. She brushes her fingers into his hair, kissing him deeper as he slips his tongue into her mouth.

He pulls back, staring up at her lips. “Is this what you mean?”

She blushes, her hand shaking as she attempts to hold his gaze. “More…”

Wonwoo experiments, his hand reaching behind her and lifting her shirt just a few inches higher. His fingertips run along her spine, sending a chill through her body. “This?”

She nods, digging her fingers into his shoulders. “More.”

He groans, feeling himself harden in his pants. She can feel his icy fingers travel up her back, paying no mind to her bra straps. Wonwoo wraps his arm around her, using his other hand to flip her onto her back. He hovers over her, leaning down to kiss her as his leg separates her thighs.

He strokes her lip with his thumb, his attention diverting between her eyes and lips. He leans down to kiss her, cradling her head in his arms. She cups his cheeks, kissing him harder as he presses her into his bed.

He turns her face in the opposite direction before leaving kisses on her jaw down to her neck. “You smell amazing.”

She holds back as long as she can before a whimper escapes her lips, sending him into a spiral. His hands travel down to the hem of her shirt, slipping under to feel the warmth of her stomach. She closes her eyes, her own hands traveling under his shirt to feel the small of his back.

“Can I?” He whispers next to her ear, fingers lifting her shirt higher up her body.

She nods with a whimper, biting her lip as she looks down between them. He pushes her shirt high enough to reveal her bra, his breathing unsteady as he admires the sight.

“God, Mira.” He places a kiss at the center of her chest. “You’re even prettier than in my dreams.”

She squeezes her thighs together at his words. Wonwoo grips her sides, kissing his way down to her stomach. She tangles one hand through his hair, covering her mouth with the other as she watches him with heavy eyes. She tries to fight the urge to giggle when he kisses a sensitive spot on her belly. He can feel her muscles flex underneath his mouth, looking up at her with a smirk. “Is this okay?”

Mira nods, biting her lip and wanting to combust as they hold eye contact. He peppers kisses back up her body, on the tops of her breasts before dipping his face into her neck, inhaling her scent. He licked beneath her ear as her head fell back against the pillow, closing her eyes and feeling the warmth spread throughout her body.

Just as Wonwoo was about to slip his hands under her bra, they could hear the front door opening. She opened her eyes, her entire body tensing underneath him as his lips paused what they were doing to her neck.

They weren’t expecting Mingyu to be home. It was only supposed to be the two of them. Wonwoo quickly pushed himself off of her, gently pulling her shirt down like he had done the most shameful thing ever.

Her cheeks flushed so fast, feeling the hairs stand up on her body. She sat up straight, brushing her fingers through her hair as she readjusted her bra.

“What’s he doing here?” He groaned under his breath, opening his bedroom door and leaving to go check what was going on.

She put her palms against her cheeks, feeling how warm they were. It didn’t help that they also started to sweat. She wanted to smack herself for being so impulsive. She began to ponder whether this was God’s way of telling her to stay a virgin. But she couldn’t shake the certain feelings of attraction to him. She’s been losing sleep from it and she could only imagine how it was affecting Wonwoo.

She covered herself with his throw blanket, staring at random items in his room as she got her heartbeat to slow.

When he came back in, she smiled and made room for him on his bed.

“Their plans got canceled from the rain, so he’s back here.” He sat down near her legs, scratching the back of his neck. It wouldn’t be the first time Mingyu interrupted them and it certainly wouldn’t be the last.

“I’m sorry–“ They both blurted out at the same time, making them both giggle nervously.

“You don’t have to apologize. If anything, we should be mad at him.” He places his hand over her knee, squeezing it. She can’t ignore the bolt of electricity that shoots up her leg and straight to her center.

When he excused himself, she knew he’d be taking care of himself after getting so riled up. She wondered what kind of girlfriend she was if she couldn’t even do this one thing for him.

"light is what we create"- when the romantic tension is high

a prompt list by @novelbear ᵔᴥᵔ

unconsciously leaning in towards each other

^ or gradually gravitating towards one another in a room in general

laughing at every joke they make, even if they're not that funny

eyes checking out their entire outfit when you first see them

^ then having to ask their giggling friends what their problem is after they've been caught

the triangle method ??? duh

inside jokes seem to accumulate and pile up as they start to spend more time alone together

eye contact being so strong, even in smaller conversations

voices changing around each other (whether it deepens or their tone in which they speak changes)

smiling and giggling throughout the entire conversation

"you always look good, what do you mean?"

always finding a way to have physical contact

^ having hands brush against eachother, being so close that they're shoulder-to-shoulder, touching their forearm briefly, etc.

compliments on top of compliments

noticing or remembering the little things

"am i too close?" "no! no, you're fine."

brushing hair out of their face or behind their ear :(

the look of absolute admiration and love one gives when the other isn't looking

^ cue their other friends gagging and telling them to "stand up"

when they lean in to get something off of their face and the other literally stops breathing for a second

goofy smiles

always being able to joke around together

It was weird meeting up with Wonwoo after months of not seeing each other. They kept in contact over the phone, but this would be the first time they were together after breaking up. Mira was nervous, but she was hoping that their interactions would become seamless after a while.

He would have thrown a big birthday bash for her, but he only had enough time in his schedule to treat her to a nice dinner.

She waited outside the restaurant, holding her umbrella. It was her luck that it would pour on her birthday. She waited only a couple minutes before seeing Wonwoo sprinting in the rain towards her. She hurried to him, raising the umbrella to cover him.

“Sorry, I wasn’t planning on being so late.” He panted, opting to give her a half hug. Mira smiled until she felt something ripple between them.

“Oh–” Wonwoo opened his leather jacket to reveal a gift bag for her. “I hope it didn’t get too wet. I’m sorry.”

Her heart beat faster when being so close to him. She wasn't expecting him to give her a hug. She didn’t imagine it to be right given the state of their relationship.

“It’s okay. I’d be worrying more about yourself.” She smiled while looking him up and down. His glasses were wet and beads of rain were dripping from his hair.

They started to make their way to the restaurant, Wonwoo remaining close by her side. “So how is twentyfour treating you?”

Mira sighed. “I feel like I’m getting old. Way too old.”

“You’re not old.” He pulls open the door for her, waiting for Mira to close her umbrella and shake it off. “Are you calling me old?”

“No, of course not! I’m older than you.”

“So which one is it? Are we old or young?”

Mira shivered when the cold air of the restaurant hit her. She could only imagine how Wonwoo felt. “I suppose we’re still young. We haven’t made it to the halfway point yet.”

The two waited in line, an awkward silence taking place as multiple hosts seated different customers. Mira glanced over at Wonwoo who was trying to dry his glasses off but couldn’t from how damp his clothes were.

“Here, let me.” She held her hand out and he gave her his glasses, watching as she wiped them on her perfectly dry blouse. She put them back on his face when she was done.

“Thank you.” He smiled so big she could see his teeth. Her chest filled with warmth as a blush appeared on her cheeks. She quickly looked away to keep her composure.

Wonwoo took care of the reservation, so they were seated in no time. They spent the first few minutes studying the menu and ordering before actually making conversation. Mira was surprised by how effortlessly their communication flowed after being apart for so long. It was refreshing to be reminded of what it was like to be just friends before entering into a romantic relationship.

He must have arranged the restaurant to prepare a cake for her in advance, because not long after they finished eating, the waitress came out with a cake decorated with blue icing and a sparkling candle. She shared some of her cake with him and planned to take the rest home.

“Thank you, Wonwoo, but I truly can’t take another bite.” She exhaled, holding her hand against her tummy.

“That’s okay. You and the girls can have some later.” He crossed his arms over the table, tapping along his arm before he remembered her present. He placed it on the table and scooted it towards her, smiling. “Happy birthday, Mira.”

Her eyes sparkled as she lifted it by the strings, eyes widening over how heavy it was. She sat up straight, watching his face for any type of cue.

“Go ahead.” He motioned towards her, clasping his hands together.

Mira reached in the bag, pulling out whatever her tiny fingers could latch onto. It was several sticky tabs in a wide array of colors, which gave her the impression that his present would have to do with a book.

“These are such pretty colors!”

“They go with the book I got you.” He pointed at the bag, waiting anxiously for her to see the book he got her.

She reached in, pulling out a thick hardcover book. Mira thought it could possibly be the same length as the bible she studied during her childhood. “Woah, it’s heavy.”

“This is my favorite book of all time.”

“Is it now?” She smirks, flipping open the cover to see the summary.

“Yes. I was debating on giving you my copy and just getting another one, but mine is very out of shape and I think you deserve a fresh copy.”

Mira pouted her lips, feeling nothing but gratitude and love for the man sitting across from her. “Thank you, Wonwoo. I love it.”

He wanted to warn her not to say that yet, but she would learn soon enough.

“No matter what, you have to see it to the end. It’s all worth it. No ifs ands or buts.”

She noticed how he had a spark of passion in his eyes when he talked about the book. There is no way in hell that she would leave that book unfinished. So she was determined to read it all the way through, even if it took her a year. “Okay. I will.”

It was safe to say that Mira finished the book in three days.

Perfect

Wonwoo rolls his eyes as Mingyu wins another round in Mario Kart. Mira had a winning streak until he handed the controller to his roommate and now she has actual competition. She was starting to get frustrated whenever he would leave bananas in front of her and trying to distract her.

So when they started the next race, Wonwoo planned it perfectly to smack his arm and give her the upper hand. It worked and she managed to get first place. He could not put into words how adorable she was when she won and liked to rub it in everyone’s faces.

“He hit me!” Mingyu threw his arm towards Wonwoo and she laughed at both of them.

“Sorry, I thought there was a fly on your wrist.”

“Thank you, Wonwoo. I appreciate your help but I wanna win on my own terms, not because of sabotage.” She raised her hand, shooing him away. “I’ve got it this time. Go, shoo!”

“Alright alright alright,” He stood up from the sofa, scratching the back of his head as he made his way back to his bedroom. He could already hear the clicking of the buttons on the controller and their voices climbing in volume. He guessed he would know when it was time to come out when either of them start shouting and declaring a rematch.

He gets to his room, plopping down on his chair and letting out an enormous sigh. He’s not sure what to do for the next few minutes, looking every corner of his room up and down. His attention falls on her leather backpack that’s laying atop his bed. He pushes himself toward it, eyeing the cute keychains she has. He remembers how hard it sounded when she tossed it on his mattress, wondering what she could possibly have in there that is so heavy.

Wonwoo decides against his better judgment, to snoop. He undoes the clasp and is surprised to see how much space the bag has inside compared to what it looks like on the outside. He finds hand sanitizer, her wallet, some chargers and earbuds, until he finds the culprit behind it being so heavy. He pulls out a hardback cover, shocked when he realizes it’s the book he got her for her birthday.

After months, it doesn’t look like she did much harm to the book compared to him. She was delicate with everything she touched. He saw the tabs peeking out from the sides and they were so neatly stacked. He really admired how put together she made things, when there is so much more to Mira than meets the eye. He remembers back on when she first finished it three days after she received it. She waited for him to wake up and told him her thoughts for an hour straight. It was nice to hear her go on and on about something that meant so much to him. He honestly could listen to her forever and never get bored.

He puts the bag back on the bed, slouching back in his chair and crossing his ankle over his knee. He opens the book, skimming through the pages to see her pretty annotations, some written in glitter pens and others just hearts scattered around the page. He smiles when seeing the pastel highlights so neatly drawn on. His cheeks start to ache from how stuck his grin is on his face. He takes it upon himself to stand, walking over to his shelf where his own copy sits to compare the two. He’s absolutely astonished when he discovers that they both have highlighted many of the same sentences and paragraphs.

But what gets him is when he flips to the page number that is engraved in his head, to the quote that has stuck with him ever since he first read the book. She has highlighted it too. But the way she annotated it differs completely from how she usually does her things. It is emphasized beyond comparison and he can’t even begin to comprehend what he starts feeling. He is overcome with so many emotions that his heart picks up in pace. It makes his knees buckle and he has to sit on his bed to process things. He’s staring down at the page, but his eyes can only see images of her and how much she means to him.

“Thanks for playing.” Mira puts her hand up and Mingyu gives her a high five.

“Yeah yeah.”

“I’m gonna go see what he’s up to.” She tosses the controller to him, cringing when it hits his palm a little too hard. “Sorry.”

She makes her way back to his bedroom, knocking on the door before pushing it open. She sees him sitting on his bed with his head down.

“There you are,” She steps closer, noticing the book in his hands. It takes her a second to realize it’s the one in her bag. “Oh, you found it.”

She covers her face with her hands, embarrassed that he’s probably seen most of her scribbles and notes she’s written in it. She begins to ramble to distract from how nerdy it makes her seem. “I just carry it everywhere in case I get bored or have some free time. “

Mira tries to reach for the book, but he sets it down and immediately pulls her closer by the waist. He hugs her tight, turning his head and letting his cheek rest against her stomach. She widens her eyes, her hands awkwardly floating before she places them on his shoulders. “Wonwoo? Are you okay?”

“I’m sorry, Mira.”

“Sorry? What are you sorry for?” She brushes her fingers through the back of his hair.

“I’m so sorry. I thought I was doing the right thing at the time but I regret it so much.” His voice sounds so fragile as he pulls her onto his lap. She tenses up before relaxing against him, hugging him back. “I love you. My biggest regret is ever letting you go.”

Tears begin to pool in Mira’s eyes. She’s sure that he’s started crying too with how he’s shaking against her. She rubs her hand against his back, trying her best to comfort him. Her voice softens when she speaks. “Wonwoo.”

He distances himself from her, taking his glasses off and refusing to make eye contact with her.

“Hey,” She cups his face with her palms, looking deep into his eyes. “You never let me go. We just needed some time apart.”

“But–“

“Everything happens for a reason. I’d wait an eternity if it meant I could be with you.” She lets the tears fall down her cheeks, wiping his own away. “I’ve always been yours.”

Wonwoo sniffles, bringing his hands up to her shoulders and pushing her hair behind her neck. “If you let me, I’ll make it up to you, I promise.”

She shook her head. “You don’t need to make anything up to me. As long as you’re mine, I don’t need anything else.”

He places his hands on her neck, his fingers meeting the strands of her hair as he finally kisses her with enough fervor to make up for the time they’ve been apart. She melts into him, feeling the electricity between them that she has missed so much.

They break away to breathe as Wonwoo presses his chin to her chest. She looks down, in awe of how delicate he looks. She kisses his forehead and whispers against his skin. “I love you too. I never stopped loving you.”

He smiles, wrapping his arms back around her waist. “Me too.”

“Did something happen while I was out there?” Mira grabs his cheeks, angling his face up towards her. “What made you like this?”

“I saw your notes, and I got reminded of just how perfect you are for me.”

Her cheeks flush with color and her eyes widen, taking in what he has said. She chuckles, leaning forward so their foreheads are touching. They exchange giggles before she soon tilts her face to kiss him again. And it is perfect.
