A small quilt panel. On a cream background fabric, it has black silhouetted shapes arranged in a symmetrical design. There are two houses, hands, apples, swans, and sprouts. In the center there are two girls holding hands and fire above them. There is an embroidered rainbow going out of the fire and connecting to one of the stars. The border of the quilt is a thin patchwork of different warm and neutral patterned fabrics.

a small quilt for my inner child. my first time doing hand applique and hand quilting!

architect: josef lehmbrock

completion: 1966

a small gem of cologne's post-war modernist church architecture can be found in heimersdorf. it has a cruciform floor plan and is clad in panels in various shades of anthracite. the monumental rose window is the building's outstanding feature. unfortunately, construction work was underway when i visited, so i was unable to see the interior.

A jewel box of a book ✨ This 19th century French sales sample book contains very thin metal ornaments, made of foil over card. These would have been used like fancy sequins, and adorned everything from cards to clothes! They’re sometimes called Dresdens after the town in Germany where many were made. I know I say this a lot, but this book really floored me 🤩 Part of col. 838 in the Winterthur Library 📚

Hanky Panky (1980) By Patrick Angus (1953-1992). The American Realist Artist Produced Keenly Observed

Hanky Panky (1980) by Patrick Angus (1953-1992). The American realist artist produced keenly observed and compassionate depictions of the 1980s gay demimonde. His work captures, with sympathy, understanding, and wit, the longing and loneliness of many urban gay men of the era.

“There’s two major schools of European existentialism of the twentieth century: there’s the French school of Camus and Sartre and there’s the Anglo Saxon school of Monty Python. […] In the French school there is this discussion of the absurdity of existence and the pointlessness of everything and it’s all rather serious and sombre. In Monty Python it’s exactly the same thing and you just laugh at it.”

— Julian Baggini, Philosopher
