jimin being top #6 in spotify brazil is something HARDER than being #1 on hot100... like you guys have no idea how in my country International artists have a HARD time in achieving something with their music cause our music platforms is extremely local to only brazilian artists AND EVEN THEN pop brazilian artists have a hard time putting a top 10 song on spotify cause brazilian funk and brazilian country music rule the platforms....

Rebirth

This is my favourite song on the album. While I may gush about Be Mine and want sexy choreography, Rebirth is the track that I listen to when I want me a Jimin. The song embodies everything Jimin is and everything I feel about him. The Artist and his muse.

Side note: I’m not exactly sure why but the moment I heard it the first time, it reminded me of Mikrokosmos and Love Yourself. Don’t ask why. It just did. I can see him ending his solo concert with this song.

Production wise this song is the best of the lot as well for me. The choice of using the choir feels deliberate (and is a VERY good one too); SMF2 which had the chorus ended with Jimin being reborn. It only makes sense for Rebirth to be the first song on this album and for it to be softer, and have the choir crooning in the background. The utter contrast to SMF2 was important to show the rebirth, the growth, and what better way to show growth than to use the tools you have at your disposal but using them differently, to show a more softer side, more lovable side.

As far as the lyrics are concerned, it cements that Jimin likes to convey his message very simply, so that there’s no confusion, no doubt. There’s an earnestness, an ingenuity that Jimin possesses and it comes across in his writing/lyrics. There are people who act or who pretend to be that earnest, genuine. And you can almost always suss it out. But with Jimin, he truly embodies all this goodness and when he writes about it, it doesn’t feel forced or fake.

The following is simply my interpretation/observation taking into account both lyrics and music video(s).

I chose to look at Rebirth from where SMF2 ended so I should talk about SMF2 and what Jimin was saying/conveying. The principal theme was chaos. A sense of chaos that he felt within and without - with everyone pointing at him; speaking at him, about him; ridiculing him; the unkind words, the unwarranted criticism, the 24/7 spotlight on him. And how he does not give a rats ass about any of that. How he has chosen to break those invisible chains and be free. To be what he wants to be, what he thinks he should be. Leading to his rebirth.

In contrast, the lyrics for Rebirth are so clear. There’s a surety in how Jimin addresses what he wants. Jimin said in the MiniMoni exchange and the BTS of the live performance that when he was writing about Rebirth, he used the premise of a crush. Now to me, a crush is symbolic as he explained in the MiniMoni exchange. The crush is symbolic of the fluttering feelings, the excitement that he is missing from his life.

The lyrics at 0.25:

If you take everything into consideration, my interpretation is that he is talking about wanting to be a better artist for Army. His rebirth as an artist who will stand the test of time, for his fans but more importantly for himself. Because HE wants to be special for us. He isn’t saying the we want him to be special for us. HE IS MAKING THAT CHOICE ON HIS OWN.

I just stanned (is that a word?!) this man harder. Sigh.

Vocally, I can actually see the growth from his previous songs. The vocals are so much more stable, clear and mature. I’m not saying they weren’t before but I feel that he has now learnt techniques which help him sing using his head voice, go into falsetto without straining his vocal cords. I’m not an expert or even a singer, but the notes he hits in the beginning and certain sections of the song are pretty high! And he sounds so good!! And then he did the live version to confirm all my thoughts and feelings around this song. Absolutely bodied that performance.

The only gripe I have is that the song is too short. Too short. I want more of this.
