on nights where neither of you wanted to say much, he’ll come in, strip from his coat and shoes, and walk towards the couch. you’ll open your arms without a word. it had become a routine after a while. you knew it wasn’t the healthiest but it got you too through the night. he would bury his head into your chest and sigh softly. you played with his hair as you mumbles a few words to him. “i missed you.” you didn’t need a reply because him being close to you, laying on your chest, holding onto you for dear life was enough of an answer for you— but still a soft voice whispered back to you: “missed you too.”
