Belt of Kraken Toughness
Wondrous Item, Legendary (requires attunement)
Value: 300,000 gp
While wearing this belt, your Strength score changes to 30. The item has no effect on you if your Strength without the belt is equal to or greater than 30.
Lightning Storm. This belt acts as a conduit for the sea’s ferocious power. Immediately after hitting a creature with a melee weapon attack, you can call down a bolt of lightning upon it, forcing it and all creatures within 5 feet to make a DC 16 Dexterity saving throw.
On a failed save, creatures take 4d10 lightning damage, or half as much on a success.
Creatures have disadvantage on the saving throw if they’re submerged in water or wearing metal armor.
You are considered immune to lightning damage caused by this effect.
Once you use this ability, you cannot do so again until the next dawn.
Curse. This belt is cursed, and becoming attuned to it extends the curse to you. As long as you remain cursed, ____________________.
You automatically fail all checks related to swimming; as if you weight 10 times your normal weight while in water.
Whenever you are on a sea vehicle of any kind, you cannot sleep.
This player has been cursed to be afraid of the sun, preferring the dark depths of a shadow. For as long as you wear this belt, or as long as you are attuned to this belt, you gain the trait Sunlight Sensitivity.
The character must consume 1d4 + 1 times the amount of food and drink a normal person does do sustain themselves. They experience terrible thirst and hunger pains. (Treat as exhaustion if they do not actively maintain this regimen.)
It is always raining in a 5ft cube around the player. The intensity randomly varies from a drizzle to a downpour and can exist even underwater or indoors.
This curse makes the player compelled to hug all characters they come across, even if it would be inappropriate or awkward.
Until this player’s curse is lifted, as long as they wear shoes or boots, they will feel as if they are walking through cold seawater.
I’ve been stuck making this item for a while now, trying to come up with a curse that sufficiently satisfies what the belt grants.
This isn’t for a particular use in a specific campaign, more of a passion project I got stuck on.
But if you have any ideas for what kind of curse the Belt of Kraken Toughness should have, let me know.
And if any other features seem unusual, or the numbers are weird, or even if you don’t like the name, leave a comment so I can get Feedback!
As a Side Note - I originally named this thing the Belt of Kraken Toughness because it would increase your Constitution score to 25 (+7), but wasn’t too sure on it. But if people want it, I’m happy to change it!
