Filling the Space: The Worst Part About Shadow and Bone's Cancelation Is Losing a Perfect Cast

It's rare for a cast to be as perfect in their portrayals of beloved book characters the way the Shadow and Bone cast is.

It’s rare to have a cast that feels like every character walked straight out of the book—where you can’t even find the most minor thing to criticize or complain about. That’s the case with the Shadow and Bone cast, and it’s why the show’s cancelation continues to hurt. Is there hope of a renewal? We still don’t know. But the more time passes, the more unlikely that seems. Plus, it isn’t fair to the actors who deserve roles left and right. It’s always when they do conventions of some kind where it’s once again clear as day that these actors not only understand their characters on a profound level but adore them profoundly, too.

The series has its faults—some bigger than others, but there’s no question about the fact that every single cast member was perfect for their role. They made the characters better, more nuanced, and so deeply complex that everything we adored from the book is intensified in the show.
