just a bit more than a little disheartening to read feminist texts written ~40 years ago to see how much hope these women had for the future and then looking at where we’ve gone since then. especially when the feminist authors in question have passed away.
they died with so much hope for our liberation and while a lot of good has happened, roe v wade was overturned, medical discrimination still happens, femicide rates are catapulting, women are still being trafficked at a systematic level, women in the global south are dying en masse due to genocide and colonialism etc etc. it’s hard sometimes to keep the same hope they did knowing the results that came. at the very least, surrounding yourself (to the best of your ability) with lesbian and gender queer communities is a possibility and a comfort for some, but anti feminist attitudes still exist outside of those circles. even within them, a lot of women and queer people reject the idea of sociology as a whole and refuse to examine the personal as political or politically influenced. the entire framework of ideology needs to massively shift, but the age of technology and technological imperialism has made ideology so hegemonic.
how many times does a new feminist consciousness need to be birthed before liberation is possible? my personal philosophy is that education is the key route the understanding intersecting identities and sociological condition, but formal education is inaccessible and places like zlibrary keep getting challenged, making educating yourself harder and harder. naturally, that is the exact intention of both of those things due to imperialism and the educational disadvantagement of not only women, but the global proletariat.
western hegemony thrives within the current framework of ideology and it isn’t going to die without fighting back. we need to examine how imperialism and androcentrism has permeated even our own thoughts feelings and actions before the path of liberation is cleared again.
